Shakuhachi + Ensemble Levent Wind Quintet, wind quintet
The Shojo-ji Scherzo was composed by Shingo Edo, Koto
performer/composer, based on the Japanese children’s song “Shojo-ji no
Tanuki Bayashi.” This piece is originally written for a shakuhachi,
two kotos and a 17 stringed koto, and it was very difficult to arrange the koto
part for a wind quintet.
Plucked string instruments and wind instruments are fundamentally
different in all aspects.
But I believe I succeeded in coming up with a presentable wind quintet
arrangement, focusing on the rich tone colors and agility particular
to a wind quintet, and without impairing the image of the original
piece.
I hope that the Japanese/Western ensemble of shakuhachi and wind
quintet will open the door to a new genre in music.

尺八：寄田真見乃 ＋ 木管五重奏（Ensemble Levent Wind Quintet）
作曲：江戸信吾 ／ 編曲：西下航平
証城寺のスケルツォは、日本の童謡「証城寺（しょじょじ）のたぬきばやし」をもとに箏曲家 江戸信吾氏が作曲。
もとは尺八と2面の箏と十七絃筝のためのこの曲、筝の部分を木管五重奏に編曲するのは非常に難しいものでした。
そもそも張ってある絃を弾（はじ）いて演奏するタイプの楽器と吹いて演奏するタイプの楽器では何から何まで勝手が違います。
しかし木管五重奏ならではの音色の豊かさ、運動性の高さに焦点を置き、また原曲のイメージを損なうことなく、木管五重奏としてしっかり成り立つ編曲をすることができたかと思います。
