In this video I am recreating the shooting and editing experience of the early 2000s by shooting with my very first digital camera and editing in Picasa.
Curious to hear what you think about the setup and ther results. Does Picasa still deserve a spot in the repertoire of a photographer in 2020?

I would be curious to hear what you think of the edits in Picasa. I quite like them tbh other than the lack of sharpness. Leave a 🍨 Emoji if you think Picasa needs a big comeback in 2021 and is totally underrated.

Picking up an old hobby, I thought I’d try street photography. Before making a major purchase on a modern camera, I thought using my G2 would give me an idea if I like street. Your video convinced me it would. Thanks, from a fellow Zuercher

Thanks for your comment. Yes. It will absolutely do to get you started. You can for sure decide later if you want to upgrade and if street photography suits you. Enjoy the G2 and take some nice photos of our lovely city.

Nice! I have always used Photoshop in my digital era (firmly 2003, but a limited amount in 1998-2002), but I definitely edit way differently now. I remember a lot of heavy vignettes and marveling at what RAW had to offer when I finally got around to using that in 2007 or so.

Yeah, vignetting and that fun stuff. I did the same. And I also shot jpg and was wondering the same as you. It came into my process when I bought my first dslr. But now I can appreciate the RAW files from this little camera. I am surprised how good they actually are.

@@TheMPhotography Agreed! I wish my D1 hadn't died during an attempted IR conversion, because I hear those things have surprising files, too.

IR conversion was also a thing at the time. I remember when I bought my second DSLR many friends were trying to convince me to do an ir conversation as well. I resisted at the time.

@@TheMPhotography Probably for the best! It's something I always found so interesting, but never spent much time with outside of the first handful of shots. Film IR is kind of a sweet spot, though I wish color IR portraits were easier to do now.

Picasa also had first free, available for regular person, face recognition!

Great video - I recently picked up a Nikon EM - like the one I had 25 years ago. I really miss the simplicity of a Aperture Priority camera, a 50mm lens and a roll of Tri-X 400 film. I appreciate this video, it brought back some great memories. Many thanks

Great video I just purchased a G2 from eBay and am using it to document my senior year of college. Everything has worked great so far but I’m just struggling to find a CompactFlash card that has enough space and is compatible with the camera

I have a 256mb card from back in the days. I saw your other comment and can imagine that 16gb is too much for the old camera.

Hi Dave. It uses compact flash cards. I still had an old 1GB compact flash card from back in the days.

@@Dp_dior hey dave i just bought an old G2 canon and was wondering if you ever got the CF card situation down? because the card that the camera came with only has 32 MB on it so I bought a new card from Amazon that had 16 GB and it didn’t work so now I’m going to try out a SanDisk CF card

hey i just brought mines (it only camera with the camera) and i cant get it open . i dont know how open it :( and if you let me know where can i buy a charger for it and an sd card . i cant find any video explaining how to actually work it please help

Hi, I recently purchased a G2 about two weeks ago. I am not sure where to get a charger, however, I purchased a Verbatim 47012 2gb compact flash from Amazon. So far so good.

You need a compact flash reader to read the memory card of the camera. Unfortunately you can't connect it to the computer directly.

If your computer has a card reader you can take out the card and put it in the computer and a window should appear with the photos you can then copy them onto the computer. If that is not the case you can either connect the camera via USB (many cameras have a USB cable) directly to you computer.

@@TheMPhotography the card is compactflash card. is too big to insert it in the computer. With the usb cable, the powershot g2 camera does not recognize me. I have tried to download the application but my G2 model does not come out. I'm desperate

Another alternative could be to use a dedicated card reader. There are card readers that can take all kinds of cards. These card readers are connected to the computer via USB. RU-vid doesn’t allow links in the comments but if you type multi card reader into Amazon you should find some that supper compact flash.

How to charge the battery with no batt charger?

I can charge mine with the cable that came with the camera. Simply plugging the cable into the camera and the ppwer outlet. No external charger needed
