Hello friends! This week, I take my Bronica GS-1 to SE Portland with a roll of Cinestill 800T to shoot some long exposures. This was my first time shooting proper long exposures on film and, surprisingly, I am pretty happy with the results. Enjoy!

Hahaha, love the "for a school project" excuse man! Used that one for a commercial gig where I had to shoot in a residential building elevator. Good video, I liked listening to your thoughts behind each of your shots!

Great photos, certainly one to do more of, but for me I was far more intrigued by the way the video showed street photography in it's realest sense. Fascinating way to show the process and thoroughly enjoyable and compelling videos 👍😊

Cinematic is the best style. And I give you props for pulling it off consistently. And that parking garage photo that is your top 5 is a bomb of a shot dude. Hell yes. This video is awesome. "Just taking photos for school" haha.

I'm on the opposite side of town (Beaverton) getting some 35mm shots on CineStill 800T tonight. Giving it a rest til the traffic dies down later though. I want to take some nice 1-2 minute shots of some of the liminal spaces around here. Also testing the light meter app on my phone.

If you like the cinematic look, try getting a 35mm adapter for your medium format, and that’ll shoot super wide panoramas and save you money 👌🏻

I agree with you on the overexposing tip. I've only shot 1 roll of cinestill so far but almost all my photos were underexposed lol, gonna try shooting it at iso 500 next time.

Or, maybe learn how to use your light meter? I don't want to seem mean about this, but so many young YT film photographers seem to prefer "quesstaments" for exposure rather than taking the time to learn how their equipment works. This ""expose one-shot over box speed" is taking on the tone of a religion. If the film worked better at half its rated speed, then it would be so rated in the first place. For example, in these night shots, you have a contrast range exceeding the latitude of your film, so you have to decide how you want the final photo to look, then expose to optimize exposure for your chosen subjects and let the rest go white or dark, as the case may be. This wide subject contrast makes good night photography very difficult..

Randall Stewart man, let it go. It comes down to personal preference and I enjoy the look of a slightly brighter image, so that’s how I’m going to shoot it. Photography is the last thing that’s meant to have a specific rule book that must be followed. It’s advantageous to slightly overexpose in harsher light to retain shadow detail while you can bring back the highlights in post. This is a conversation I’ve had multiple times with the guys at my local film lab as well. It’s not just a “YT film photographers” trend. If you don’t like the images or my methodology, you don’t have to watch.

Thanks. Happy to discover a review where the artistic research join technical purposes. The fact that it is "T", i mean ballanced for tungsten makes the 6000 Kelvin lights a little blue is it ? Curious to see what happen when you compense with whythe balance in the scan.

Yeah with warmer tungsten light the pictures will be more neutral, and otherwise have a cooler tone. Thanks for checking out the vid!

I usually just use portra 400s chart when I cant find one for another film stock

Cinematic and Long Exposures are completely different things. Remember : Motion picture cameras can shoot only 1/50 as the LONGEST one. Because speed is 24fps. So this film is NOT produced for long exposures. The only thing in cinematogrqphy is push priceess or using "brilliant optics" by Panavision
