TEQUILLA!!! Nu Nu Na Nu Na Nu Na Na NA! Love that song. Absolutely magic shots John. The D850 is my fav camera as you know. The colors and dynamic range is just so amazing! Such a diverse camera for so many different types of photography. Those Hummingbirds are truly stunning. Don't have them here. Hawk shots just WOW! 👍🙏

Thank you Adrian! 🙏 That used to be my favorite drink...... TEQUILA!! I am surprised you do not have hummers there, but you do have some really amazing other birds we do not. Most of these shots are REALLY cropped in. The combination of this lens (on any Nikon really), but on the D850 is amazing. These really made up for everything I dumped from shooting the Sony for two days. You can see the size of this old lens. It is heavy and when all that glass snaps to focus, you can feel the torque. It is by far, the sharpest lens I have. I shoot it mostly at F4. Now, to work on the hawks. Hoping for windy day soon so I can get more in flight. Have a fantastic day!! 🤗💖

Excellent and rarely seen photos John...that 300 2.8 old lens is the very same one I just perchased last week..I found It to be a bargaing compared to the current versions, and as you say... the outcome, the sharpness and the bokeh is second to none...amazing!!! Cheers from Spain.

Thank you NikCan!! 🙏This lens squeeks when focusing manual and needs a service - soon - but man it is so sharp. Most of these are really cropped in to begin with. It is an awesome lens - my favorite!! 💖🤗

Excellent captures John! Loved the hummingbirds, especially images with mouth open for gnats, tiny insects! Great stuff!! Btw, the window shades over your left shoulder were bathed in pink light, no need for a pink shirt! 😊👍👏

As near as I can tell, this is an early one and it is still my favorite lens - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UbgFqrelfdU.html I should have a rental Z9 coming in this week and that will be one of the first lenses going on there. Nice shots! My main concern with getting a 300 2.8 is using it with a TC compared to a 500 pf 4 - the latter is better at 500 vs a 300 at 2.8. And they're priced the same used... But with a 300 2.8, I do get the option of using the 300 at 2.8 without a TC, which produces dreamy bokeh... Decisions decisions - currenlty I'm struck with my budget 200-500 before I make that choice...

Thank you. I have been using the 200-500 on my Z9 and on the D800 - I LOVE this lens. This weekend, I will have the 500 PF with a 1.4 tele to use on the Z9 and will also throw it on the D800. I will let you know how it stacks up to the 200-500!!! 🤗🙏❤

@@JonnyPink65 it'd be great to see a video on TV usage! I'm going to get the 300 2.8 used with a tc14e iii (for the weather sealing). I'll keep my 200-500mm for now. And hopefully one day they'll release a smaller Z8 with the same focusing speed as the z9 so I can keep using these awesome lenses ☺

Hey John I've just purchased the 300mm afs2 version in really good condition. . Is there much difference between the 1st and second model. .also I'm really scared the focus motor might give out as they don't make parts for them anymore. .does age matter with this lens . . Or how much its been used

Hi jester 101!! Age does change a lens based on how it is stored. I have a couple of old lenses, my 300 being one of them, where the AF locks up. I have to manually focus and it usually kicks back in. The other thing that can happen is the grease in there can dry up. You can have it serviced. Humidity and dry can also effect the coatings over time causing mold and separation. Take it to a local camera shop and see if they offer service or try Nikon directly. I think mine is the first version and is a tank. That is one lens I do not plan on getting rid of. 🤗💖🙏

Great video. Question? I have an older 300 2.8 and I am having trouble with the focus. When the focus snaps back from near to far it;s great but sometimes it will not do it. I have to move the focus ring just a hair to make the focus work again. What could be the matter? I shoot with a D4 and D500. Thanks for your time.

jules!!! I think it is the lens and that it could use a service. I THINK. I have a Nikon 70-200 that does that as well when shooting up. I have done events with it and had it do that. I just adjusted the focus and kept shooting. One of the quirks of my old 300 is that i HAVE to keep it set to full and the slider between AF and M right in the middle position AF/M or I have trouble. I just work around it. With most of my adpated EF to the R body lenses on my Canons, I am constantly moving the focus to "wake it up". I am sure there is a way better answer, but I just work around all of it. 🙏🤗💖
