Shooting Ice Cannonballs

Today we're shooting everything ice. Ice blocks, Bags of ice, ice cannonballs, and ice grapeshot! Will they melt from the heat of the cannon? How accurate are they? Are they deadly? Let's find out!
If you have any ideas about things you'd like to see us shoot with the cannon or shoot out of the cannon leave them in a comment below and we will try to get those out for you guys!

You need a Styrofoam sabot or "slug" behind the ice ball to cushion it, so it arrives intact at the target. Also try an ice cylinder for more mass.

I didn’t think of that! I’ve got some soft plastic TPU discs to use on an upcoming video and I think those would be perfect for the ice. I’ll have to revisit this one in a future video!

It seems to be common for ice projectiles to not survive the launch process due to fragmenting and/or melting.

I think the wad protected the grape shot from the heat which is why it worked. We might revisit some of these in the future knowing what we know now and see how they work!

Sadly it looks that way. We might revisit these one day and try a different loading style and see what happens. Maybe add a few cushion discs before the ice to see if they will stay together.

you might try using pykrete ice cannon balls, but the light weight is really working against you.

How expensive is it to fire that cannon?

It's about $2-$3 a shot for a standard lead shot depending on how much powder costs at the time. That's for the lead, fuse, powder, and charge charge paper. Thanks for tuning in!
