Using a film camera definitely makes you more deliberate! There is a deeper depth to the emotions you convey. What is important in these movies made on film is the way your mind fills in the meaning that is too often predigested in digital. Film movies are like walking on ice over black water. If you let it take you it's terrifying and somehow much more satisfying. As a storyteller the negative space is where things get really interesting.

I know Joan put in a lot of work into making this happen and it's always tough w/ limited resources, especially shooting on film; getting it processed and not knowing how it's exactly going to turn out. Few of her friends scrambled about to support this class project and it got done. She experienced the gist of a full-workflow, from pre-production, production & post-production. Splicing together a film on a flat-bed after it get's processed is something not too many get to do nowadays even though you can alternatively just get it scanned and edit digitally. Above all her film was screened at the local theater and projected on a large screen! A good bookend to her first project and we're all proud to see her go through the motions to completion. Also very kind of her to take the time to document the process and share w/ everyone.

I love shooting on both 16mm and super 8 film, I just wish it weren't so expensive. If the film and processing were cheap I'd shoot on film all the time.

This whole process sounds like hard labor lol. That's why I'm interested in shooting 16mm/35mm motion picture but also terrified. I think you did well for the first go. Looking forward to the next one. Nice website by the way. I think you've got some bangers. Seems like you've been shooting a ton of work.

Whats up Joan how are you? the final images were outstanding, very Hitchcock. one thing I never understood is how are you able to load the film in the light without exposing the roll. how does that work?
@joanmichel

Raychristofer the 16mm film has a bit that you can waste just like when you load a 35mm analog photo camera. Same concept.
