Great video. Everyone is at different levels of expertise. The manual and other creative stuff will come in time when one is ready to step up to it..Thanks for general guide to shooting the subject -Sports. VictorT (Canada)
D5100 is a great camera. The Nikon D5100 brings the high quality 16.2 megapixel sensor, great low-light performance, and full HD video. Click for pricing info : #amzn.to/1fsGSof
since i actually own one, its good for beginners. but ima upgrade to a nikon d7000 or entry level pro update. i sprang for the d7100. the shutter sound omg. plus weather proof is a plus!!
Unfortunately this camera does not allow an accurate preview of appeture and shutter tones in LiveView. You can only see the true image after taking a photo. Huge downside
But I'm mainly a photographer. I do do a lot of video for my IB higher Film class and personal projects but for that my Nikon suffices and I just prefer the colors and raw files I get out of Nikon cameras. Btw my friend has the 40D, great camera.
Not if you get used to it and learn it' then you can change them before you get there or change ti fast while your there and if needed you can use shutter priority or aperture priority
I love all your video lessons on Nikon D5100. Please make more if you have time. I just become interested in photography and bought the camera. Can you tell me which memory card is the best in your experience?
Yeah I recommend the D5100 over the D3100 as well. I own the D3100 but sometimes wish for just more. I feel like iv'e outgrown the camera. Plus the D5100 has the same sensor as the D7000 which is really quite amazing. Def go for the D5100.
These videos are good for people who dont want to learn advance functions. But he should have also gone over some of the pro modes such as manual, aperature priority to show how the results can drastically improve
Very true, I would definatly choose 5100 over the 3100 for several reasons, the "selective color" feature is pretty cool, a little faster burst mode, a little bit more mp's. I also would not be happy not having a mic input with the 3100, they are both very nice cameras though. I will be doing alot of sport shooting (table tennis) and alot of reviews say the 5100 is best for video. Though I am impressed with the longer battery life and dual card slot on the d7000, so many pros and cons :c
Great lesson! Thanks for "dumbing it down" for me. I see at 5:17 that chicks dig photographers....oh, but what's this, at 5:49, they're all over the pool players. Dee-nied!
Haha one of the main reasons I went with Nikon is because the build quality in the D3100 was a lot better than the 550D's. For my type of photography I need a camera that can survive a few drops and scrapes.
hi, ive been comparing the canon rebel t3i and nikon d5100. i take a lot of pictures and based on most reviews ive read the d5100 would be better but i also love to do videos and the reviews say the canon is better for videos. now looking at all your videos i have been leaning more towards the d5100 as i think your videos look very good. today i just learned the d3200 is out so now its a toss up again. would you be able to do a comparison if you can (d5100 vs d3200)? thanks.

I don't know, I don't have a 16GB memory card but my 2GB holds around 250 full resolution photos. I think this differs though, sometimes I have more, sometimes less. With videos, I think about a 5 minute length video would make it so I can only store up to 200 photo. You do the math.
hi! when you set the camera to S, what is your iso setting? i kept on getting messages saying theres not enough light even though its super sunny outside. my shutter speed was 1/250 (which is not that fast) thank you!
I diasagree. I picked up photography around 1 year ago with my D5100, so I am still to be considered a "newbie". But from my limited experience, shooting in MANUAL doesn't work for my kind of shots in 90% of the time. Unless I specificly get out and set up some shots, using aperture or shutter prioirty is just superior, since you can't always dangle around for a minute to get everything set up. I would advise to get out of auto or P mode, but MANUAL is not always the best.
hi, Everytime i shoot using my d5100, it takes a while to take the shot and its like something clogging up everytime a take a phone then it turns blury? can some 1 help?
Oh how true... I have a 18-55 lens and the zoom is just pathetic hahahha, I don't have or had the funds for a better lens so being close to what you're photographing IS key. Luckily, I tend to photograph dogs and horses and can be close but still...
Did you already take a decision? I have the same problem, but thought the AF of the t3i was pretty slow and bad for movie. Practically unusable. I can confirm that my stolen 500d had bad AF in live view.
My Pentax K-01 is my new favorite camera. shoots way better video than my D5100. And images and specs are ver similar. All for $200 cheaper. It's not about the name ya'll it's about the specific camera.
Dar Zilda It's not on the dial like the D5100 which is an entry level DSLR intended to "hold your hand" through different settings. On your cam set your dial to "scene" and then use the selector wheel on the back to scroll through until you find sports. But really you could just set your shutter to something like 1/400-600, all about freezing the subject.
