A real American who says "Vee-hick-le"! I really enjoyed these images, especially 7:38 . I'll consider delta 400 with my next 120 film purchase. Snap on watcihng the nine club episode too!
It was not until this video that I realized how I pronounce this word versus the correct way of pronunciation. Hahaha, that's my Appalachia coming out!
Actually super impressed with the GoPro footage! I'm gonna have to pick one up for sure. Really digging this style of video as well...I feel like keeping it simple makes putting out more content a lot easier. Something I need to work on for my own stuff! Great work as always!
Great video and fantastic set of images, I liked the way you took us through each image and your thoughts about the composition. Keep up the good work man.
Really enjoyed hearing you talk through your thought process in making images. Being a portrait shooter myself, I'm always so blown away by these kind of photographs. Finding story and emotion in inanimate objects.
I love this style of video. It was great to come along your shoot but also to see the photos with explanation of your thought process as we were going along. I'm definitely up for more of that.
This is probably my favourite type of RU-vid video related to photography. P.O.V style, walking around, shooting photos, talking about them.. really enjoyable.
Dude! So nice to have you vlogging! I’ve been trying to vlog for a couple of months but I just have not been able to complete a video, I usually get conscious of people watching me and get really shy and can’t continue, you have inspired me to keep trying! and Great video, I specially love the fact that you stoped to explain your mind behind every image, looking forword to more!
Hello from Japan! I recently bought Pentax 6x7 and went out with 105mm F2.4. I really enjoyed your review. I spent some time in the states(Indiana, though), but the streets and your pictures remind me of the days in America. anyway, still I'm waiting for my first roll develop, but I'm pretty sure this massive camera and lens will give me outstanding pictures!
Hey Matt! I’ve been watching for a while and this has been my favorite video of yours. Really felt your excitement and passion creep in. Keep improving :) we’ll keep watching it happen.
Really like the format of this video - conversational and informational at the same time. Favorite image is the wide shot of the car and the tarp. Well done.
Very nice result and framing with type of middle format, I like the way you play with the empty space with the snow, also the softness of the film Delta 400 result.
I like the garage shot. The angle of the tracks all to the left gives it a sense of tension, or something. Looking forward to your scanner thoughts/choices/changes. Now that I'm shooting more film I'm thinking I need to update my V600. Embrace the snow!
Hi Matt, good to see you out and about 👍 with the beast Pentax 67 I have also just bought one and it is on the way hopefully the size doesn’t bother me much! Can’t wait to try the beautiful 2.4. Thumb up for the video. Cheers
Love this type of video! My favorite was definitely the tire tracks photo. I love how it implies someone leaving and returning home without seeing either the person or their vehicle. And don't worry I say vehicle the same way you do!
i agree i really liked the garage door also the closer shot of the car with the triangle tarp. glad your making videos and again, and watching the nine club! Westgate is so good, lol.
Well thank you for sharing all the shots you did not like either! It makes it more interesting!! The close up shot of the car behind the fence is nicer in my eyes, as it makes the angle of that fabric hanging down the fence more prominent which I feel is the subject of the photo.
Greetings from up in Mansfield, Ohio! Kudos for getting out in the cold to do this video. I don’t like this weather either and it takes a lot of motivation to get out and shoot in it. Anyway, nice to see you back at it again on a regular basis!
Dave Hanner Thank you! Haven’t been to Mansfield in a long time. Last time I was there, I was shooting behind the scenes photos for a music video shoot at the prison!
This video makes me miss Ohio. I'm from Cuyahoga Falls and Chillicothe looks like it was built and designed by the same people. Thanks for the great video !
@@mattdayphoto You should! There's a lot of beautiful photo opportunities, especially at the Riverfront and the Gorge. The Riverfront has some nice historical buildings and the actual river has really nice cliff walls surrounding it. The Gorge his tons of big cliffs and an absolutely huge overhanging cliff right next to a valley where the Cuyahoga River runs through.
hey Matt, i would love to hear you talk a little about the benefits or just reasons to shoot with black & white film as opposed to just shooting colour and being able to choose if you want to make the photo black & white in post.
I am glad that you took the advice of sharing your creative process! for beginner photographers like myself it means a lot. and in typical matt style you share everything, even the shots you dont really like, and I cant tell you how relatable that is. hey, maybe I like this video just because I'm a pentaxian... just kidding! have a nice day!
Hi Matt, If you like shooting this type of stuff, I would suggest that you check out Alfred Stieglitz's work. If you look at his compositions, he layers via triangles, so your eye just jumps from thing to another, following the triangular shapes and thereby exploring the frame, eventually settling on the main point of interest. BTW, my favorite shot was the bridge that you hated so much. Enjoyed the video. All the best.
Great video. Loved how you gutted it out in a less than ideal situation just for the sake of getting out and shooting. Been doing a lot of that as well due to the shutdown. I love Delta 400 but just can't get it to work with HC-110 (which seems interchangeable with HC). Regardless of dilution/agitation scheme it just seems comes out a bit lifeless. But man, it's fantastic in DD-X or XTol.
Good to see your out n about Matt, the tree and lake works for me, quite peaceful...oh the two vehicles, not too sure about the first one but is the second vehicle a Land Rover? I'm not a car person as you can probably tell. Stay healthy and keep getting stronger...
Great video as always, I kinda like this walkaround sort of format. And man, I wish I had a place like Rost around my town, I'd hang out there all the time lol
Hey Matt, it´s cool to see you hanging around with a Pentax 67 again. Makes me feel good about not selling mine. You should try Fuji Natura 1600 or Fuji Industrial 100 and 400.
Great video format, really enjoyed it. Btw I think the rear vehicle at 4.00 is an old Land Rover. I used to drive them in the Army (British). Keep up the great work Matt 👍😊
Lovely video Matt - this vlog format works well. Photos look like a follow-up to Friend of Mine book is hiding somewhere in there. Is it time for Part II? Patreon could be the way for us to back/pre-order a book like that?
Hey Matt, really enjoyed the format of this video. I think those are two land rovers side by side. I grew up in Scotland and those were a must have for any of the local farmers to get around. I shot some FP4+ in large format this weekend and really liked the results. It's a 125 speed film so you need some good light but i'd enjoy seeing what you can do with it.
I need to shoot some FP4+! A friend of mine always shoots it in 35mm and has great results with it. I did shoot one roll in 120 that he gave me earlier this year and loved how clean it turned out.
Great video as always, the Delta 400 is a great film, I've used it a few times and like it very much. As for film recommendations you might want to try FomaPan 400, also you might want to try Adox silvermax, which is 35mm only but I've seen some really nice results with it. And there's also the chromogenic films, Ilford makes one called XP2 (400 speed) which is developed in C-41 rather than black and white developers. I've seen a few videos of people using this and they seem to get very lovely results. Great work as always Matt and thank you for another video!
Send that snow southwest to Oklahoma! We've only had a single dusting so far & I really would love to see up to 5" or 6" or so. Some of my favorite images over the years have been made during winter storms.
Big Smoke Thanks, man! It’s a band I found on Artlist, a royalty free music subscription service. Super good! Reminded me of This Will Destroy You as well. 🙏🏻
Great photos Matt! You’re too hard on yourself. That’s what the internet is for! What made you go for the P67 again vs other options? I love that system too
I loved the video! You should try out jch streetpan 400. I've shot a roll and like the look of it. Midwest photo might have it, but you should also check out world of photography in Columbus. It's one of the places I frequent whenever I'm in cbus.
I like the one of the cars and the bridge one that you didn't like. Love the format of the video and the go-pro nailed its role as a vlog camera. Dare you to do one on Provia!
What alternative are you looking to use other than the v600? My scanner has been out of commission and I am looking for an alternative. Thanks for the video! Always fun to hear your thought process while shooting around town.
Lance Sherwood I think the natural progression would be the v800..that’s the “standard” for the more serious/professional at home scanner, I think, without breaking into the “real pro” scanners that cost thousands.
Great off the cuff video Matt, loved it. While I'm a huge Ilford fan overall, I wonder how XP2 would render the same kinds of scenes? A bit more punch in the shadows. Might make for some cool images. Keep up the rad work mate!
Matt Day XP2 is a colour processed film correct? Could you go into a bit of detail in your video of the differences between your usual illford film Stock & XP2 ?
