Congrats on the new resort and thanks for all those years of service. Nice tool upgrades and good tips. Having as many tools mobile as possible is extremely helpful. I’m looking forward to seeing your videos in 2024, Happy New Year!
This is the first video I’ve seen in over 6 months. I am subscribed and also have the bell activated, RU-vid is not sending notifications about your channel. Hope they do better in 2024. SEMPER FI
One of your videos popped up the other day and I’ve been subscribed ever since. I like the kind of videos you’re making and look forward to what you have in store. I liked the quote estimate video you did. Cabinet installs and how you keep organized in the shop and trailer would be cool, but then again I’m a dork like that 😂 thank you for your service. I back the blue and will back this channel!
Thank you so much for this encouraging message! I'm glad you subscribed. I've got lots of content coming. I may do the trailer-layout video at some point but likely not this winter. A little cold for organizing tools in there at the moment. My trailer is not next-level cool but it works for me. Biggest tip I have is having everything strapped down so things don't get damaged on our brutal roads (even in the city). Winter frost really makes all our roads terribly bumpy. I had a bandsaw in my trailer at one point until a big bump brought it down. Thankfully not a lot of damage. Cheers, Scott
Nice to know the DeWalt planer takes the Festool hose. How good does the dust collection work and which dust extractor do you use? Can you use a mini or need the CT 26? I machine doors on site and am thinking of switching out my old reliable Porter Cable Porta-Plane 126, which I love, but it makes a mess and has a cord on it. I'm on the Dewalt and Milwaukee platforms, so can go either way. Any input would be greatly appreciated. And yes I have watched some of your stair videos. Always like to see how others are doing things.
There isn't much dust at all when I use the Dewalt planer with a Festool vac. In that little segment I was using the new MIDI, but I have a CT36 in the shop underneath the MFT table. Sounds like you have a good business going. Glad to hear from you and I appreciate the comment and encouragement. Happy New Year, Scott
I think the MIDI is probably the most popular among finishers. I use it in the shop as well. Often with the cyclone separator on top - especially with the big router. I use the 32mm hose when doing that. And bought an adapter from Festool so I can use that big hose on the smaller dust ports on the Domino. @@t.e.1189
Sounds like you have a full year ahead! Random thoughts... Are you going to run the resort as a resort or is it a family thing? Even though Im in the US, thanks for your service. That K3 saw is awesome. Festool Live just did a video of all the Festool stuff for cabinet making. How is the education system in CA for trades skills? In the US, shortly after I completed HS the wizards down here thought it would be good to dismantle the entire "Industrial Arts" departments. Now, 50 yrs later they are re-thinking that. Happy New Year Scott!
Thanks Jay! And happy new year. We are not going to run it as a resort but a family camp. Too many complications in Canada for doing that kind of thing. (And also we don't want to be working all the time.) Canada is behind the 8-ball with trades so they are actively trying to recruit competent folks to teach the trades. My son-in-law, who was one of my apprentices, is taking a course to become a certified carpentry teacher. Canada used to have some attractive tax incentives for companies to have apprentices. But they took away these benefits. (As you know the present Canadian government is very socialist.) But perhaps this will change. Basically Canada has followed the same pattern as the US and we are now scrambling to find skilled tradesman and young people who want to work. (I will get off my soapbox now.) Cheers, Scott
