I lived in Santa Barbara for about 10 years in the 90s and I miss it every day. There truly is something healing about the Ocean Air and sun. We now have In-N-Out burgers here in Texas. I really like the burgers and shakes!
Being able to sit and enjoy nature is one of the most restful things in the world. One of my earliest memories was listening to waves roll onto the beach. Although I no longer live in California (I haven't since I was 2), being next to the sounds of waves is one of my favorite things.❤❤
I have been to an In-N-Out Burger. My cousin used to live in Sacramento and I went to visit her when we were both in our 20s. She made sure that I had an In-N-Out Burger meal and we took a day trip to San Francisco. Such a fun memory, and on the subject of rest I am currently driving down to Connecticut so my friend and I can carpool to the outer Banks in North Carolina. I am very blessed to have three wonderful women friends in my life at my age and once a year we all get together somewhere in the country and have a long restful happy weekend. I hope we see some wild horses!!
I just returned from an out of state wedding myself, traveling 12 hours each way by Amtrak. Instead of being bored by the travel or scrolling I found myself in a deep state of relaxation just being away for the first time since Covid. The wedding was outdoors, the scenery and bride were beautiful and I realized how much I needed to detach and enjoy my blessed life and stop working so hard at non-important things. My husband who will go anywhere at any time was happy to hear this!
Your uncle photobombing your video is so charming. We all need his sense of fun in our lives. My son lived in Santa Barbara for a little while, and I was so glad to visit him there. It was my first time putting my feet into the Pacific Ocean, and kayaking there was a highlight for me. TFS.
My husband and I just returned from a trip to San Diego for a wedding, and we made sure we stopped at an In N Out. It was great! I also loved seeing how the mountains and beaches of California are so different from those here in Virginia.
Another lovely video! I loved the feature on Santa Barbara. We're heading up to the central coast Saturday for a week at our favorite spots...Monterey, Cambria, Pismo Beach, and Santa Barbara. So much beauty awaits! What a blessing.
I am from California and I have never been to In and Out. As a life time vegetarian I have also never been to McDonalds either lol. Some classes at the school I teach at recently went on a field trip to In and Out. They loved their tour and were even able to make some French fries. In and Out really does make everything fresh. They don’t even have a freezer. Everything is fresh made.
I'm not much of a meat eater and I used to get the "veggie burger" at InNOut with grilled onions and sometimes the "grilled cheese"- that's a cheeseburger with no burger patty. They have veggie options! I live in Kansas now and really miss InNOut.
East coaster here. I've never been to In n Out but would love to try it one day. I love the scripture on the bottom of the cup. Proverbs 3:5. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. ❤

I live in Nebraska but my husband's family lives in California. I've been to in and out once. It was yummy. I'm wearing my favorite outfit today to go grocery shopping. I usually do pick up but you inspired me to go into the store and look for things I wouldn't normally buy. Thank you for the lovely video.
I live in Central Texas and we now have In and Out!! Love their burgers and the way they wrap them up for you. And they are always so polite. Thank you for showing us your beautiful state. I’ve been to California a few times and just marvel at the beauty. I will continue to visit!

Oh, how I adore Santa Barbara. I fell in love with it back in the mid- 1990's and have visited many times since then. I'm actually currently planning my next trip to SB, so the timing of this video was perfect! There is a beautiful little inn where I almost always stay. And while there, I'll set aside one day to drive along the coast to spend the entire day at my other favorite place, Hearst Castle. It is such a stunning place that one just needs to see in person to fully appreciate. I'm really looking forward to this trip, as I've been missing CA. Have you been to Hearst Castle, Jennifer?

I love getting groceries at Whole Foods! And though I live in Georgia, I’ve heard about In and Out Burger and would love to try one ! And I love the thought that a caterpillar resting is the most productive thing it could do!
Yes, we love In-n-Out in TX too. But the golden berries are from Peru, where we live now! Here they call them aguaymanto or capuli. Great for cheesecake fruit topping!
OMG yes! Love In and Out SO MUCH. First stop whenever I land in CA from the East Coast. Double double mustard grilled with grilled onions, baby! Chocolate shake, fries.
We always get In n Out when we are on the west coast. But...fun fact: they are opening an EAST coast headquarters and restaurant in my hometown really close to my house in Franklin TN! We are so excited for them to open. My favorite fast food is Chick Fil A.
Indeed, rest protects our productivity…..both by preventing burnout and by helping us not give our energy to work that won’t really fulfill us. True rest (in quiet and reflection rather than entertainment and distraction) helps us go deeper into our soul and re-orient. Then we can take action from a place of alignment rather than sheer momentum. Without the clarity of thought that comes from restorative pauses, there is no exercise of “free will”. Choice requires the ability to see options. Intentional pauses reveal these options. Sending blessing to all those on the quest for renewal.💕
I love your getaway videos so much, Jennifer, because they are intentionally planned to be serene and restful and as much as you like being in the surroundings of your home, your family vacations are carefully and lovingly built around serenity and peacefulness. Your annual trips to England remind me of this as do your visits to Newport Coast in Orange County. I really enjoy seeing them! When traveling, I like to look in local markets and drug stores and find them both fascinating. The Whole Foods grocery haul looks like you had some amazing finds and your daughter’s recipe shows her talents and creativity. I can tell that sweet uncle of yours must be fun to be around. Awaiting your next adventures at home and away. P. S. Forgot to add that my favorite thing at In-N-Out when I go is a cheeseburger with grilled onions, vanilla shake, and french fries. I’ll have to try the raw onion version next time, lol.

I loved this video. I too love seeing grocery stores in other place. I always shop when in another country. I bring fun things home. No IN & Out in NC. I know you enjoy your daughter experimenting with recipes. So helpful. Thanks for sharing.
The only time I have been to an In and Out Burger was after helping at the scene of an accident, in a college town, with some other sweet college young men. They stopped too and helped keep the woman who was hit in an intersection safe. My husband I stopped for dinner and the same young men were the In and Out. I was able to shake their hands (it was a bit too crazy to thank them while we were all taking to the police and keeping her from going into shock). God lead us back to each other at In and Out miraculously. She was okay, and it was amazing to see such caring young Good Samaritans.
My son an daughter-in-law took me to California for my 60th birthday. We did all the touristy things ~ and, yes, that included a trip to In-N-Out Burger. My order looked like yours, Jennifer. Delicous!
We lived in San Diego for several years and I miss it. The produce available was the best. In n out does have some of the best burgers. If the political climate ever changes to one where it is actually more favorable to patriotic conservative US citizens, we do plan on moving back. Oh, inspired by your Diary of an Edwardian Lady, I ended up buying it and am impatiently waiting for it in the mail. You have some of the best ideas for outfits.
My friends from the east coast tried in and out and loved it, but I noticed the meat patties are so much thinner than before😩 I had told them to order double double. Fun video!
In n Out is my favorite. We are in Utah and Happy that they are not just on the west coast; they are all over the Southwest; even Colorado and coming to New Mexico.
Yes I would've loved to see more of the wedding: outfit for the events, a tour of the air BNB, and maybe a few shots of the wedding decorations (with permission from the bride of course). Wedding florals are my favorite and the tablescape if a meal is served

I work right next to an In and Out and it's definitely and excersise in self control to not go in every day 😅 Might have to after seeing this though, I could really go for a shake and some fries!

In and Out is moving their headquarters down the road from where I live in Franklin,TN. Lots of reasons people and companies move here. We ate their food in San Antonio on a vacation. My girls are so excited!

I am from Colorado but I‘ve never been to fast food here since I don‘t feel well after eating. Love Whole Foods, but we only have Natural Grocers where I live. Lovely shopping with you and seeing your very lovely clothes. Santa Barbara is very nice. I‘m from SFO and I have been there many times.❤
We spend winters in Rancho Mirage, CA to escape the Canadian cold. We love In-N-Out! I make a copycat sauce so we can replicate the burgers in Canada 😋

I grew up in California and loved In-N-Out. 😊 I miss the ocean, although I lived more in the Sierra Nevada in a Gold Rush town and we didn’t venture to the coast often enough. 😉

Dear Jennifer, Your uncle popping up again and again made me think of my own uncles on my dad's side. While my father was reserved, his brothers liked to do these sort of cameos in family videos, at family parties, and, yes, wedding receptions. I laughed out loud at your uncle. Uncles are the best. My husband is all of our nephews and nieces favorite. My favorite uncle looks exactly like my dad so when my kids (or my brother's kids) were young they would have to stare for a long time to figure out who was who (whom?). So fun! California really is majestic. What a heritage we Americans have! From sea to shining sea we have so much to explore right here. Loved the vlog.

But, it's on my bucket list for my next trip out West! I'm wondering what we have here that you might not there - there is shake shake, smash burger. I'm there are others that I can't recall now.
