I stopped shopping at Brandy cause it’s expensive asf for cheap ass clothing and because every time you go in, most of the white girl employees stare you down and judge you. I once overheard two girls talking shit about this Mom who was pregnant and saying stuff like “Ugh who would want to have a baby with her?” 😐 Toxic shopping experiences there.
i think it was last year or the year before but a former employee exposed the company for racial profiling (saying to follow black customers bc they steal) and pretty much never hiring people of color and/or males
Damn, that sounds horrible. I don't understand why some people can't mind their own damn business like they don't got anything better to do than talk shit. That poor mom, hopefully she didn't overhear that.
@@Error_707. the last time i went into brandy was a few years ago when i was in highschool & its like they literally hire their employees based on who has the worst attitudes, but nowadays you can walk into any boutique or clothing store & the employees always somehow end up being teenage girls who act like they have something better to do..
Bro wtf why don’t people just mind their own damn business , if they’re that bored they can use their phone instead of talking shit about random strangers. That’s just fucking rude.
I was a husky child and all the more 'popular' girls in my elementary wore Gymboree leggings... so my mom took me to the mall so I could fit in. Walked into Gymboree and got about 1 foot in the door before the clerk loudly and abrasively went off on me, an 8 year old, that nothing in the store would possibly fit me, I'm too big, the clothes here are for petite girls...blah blah. I'm 30 now, still seethe at that interaction, especially after it was a catalyst for my future ED, which put me in the hospital for 18 months after 2 cardiac arrests.. Leave people alone, don't offer unsolicited advice. If something doesn't fit a patron, they'll come back to return it.
I’m sorry this happened to you. That is horrific and should never be acceptable for a retail employee to comment on the bodies of anyone, especially children.
You could been at that store for the accessories or shoes or stretchy clothes. What kind of employee drives away a potential sale and hurts a child’s feelings in the process? No wonder Gymboree went bankrupt.
My friend actually went into one and after putting a few shirts (that fit her perfectly she send me pics for an opinion) the cashier goes, “Um would you like to try them on are you sure these will fit?” Knowing she gets questions like this all the time she just nods. The cashier proceeds to go, “Are you positive because you’re a little heavy.” My friend just laughs and goes, “Would you like me to try them on in front of you?”
@@mmiek796 brandy Melville has multiple accounts of racism and not being size inclusive. (Pretty much everything on their site is a size xs/s and nearly every model is white with blonde hair.) they’re not a good company so why would they hire good employees
stop why is this so accurate. i shop at brandy (i’m a size 0 so i personally never dealt w the hatred or discrimination) but i asked the girl one time if they had any “ashley tops” and she looked at me and said she has no clue what that is and i kid u not she said “it’s online. but just to let u know it’s one of our smallest shirts tho. it doesn’t fit most ppl so it’s up to u” and now i see why ppl hate shopping there, no matter what body type
It’s almost like they train their employees to be as personally insulting as possible to anyone that walks in lol. That’s like the culture of the store 😂
I had a guy at my work get mad at me. We have to wear mask at work, but customers don’t. I was just getting over a salivary stone and my voice was torn to shreds. He complained he couldn’t hear me because of the mask. I corrected him and he was REAL mad. Best day ever
There’s a core memory I have about Brandy Melville on 13th st in New York, I was so shocked because there was a bunch of employees on their phone and one of them was LAYING DOWN at the cash register looking at her phone. They just like barely glanced up when I came in. I was shocked because I have a lot of experience in retail and wondered what kind of training they receive to act like that.
It’s because they run the store they don’t really have a manager. I work at H&M and sometimes the managers let us have our AirPods in and stuff but never anything as extreme as that
Probably none which is exactly why the behavior is the way it is; I’m sure they aren’t told basic human kindness bc most of them act really shitty to customers they don’t deem fit for the brand
I went there too, there was an I suppose middle east girl and me (i'm mexican) and i'm not exagerating, employees stared at us as if they never saw someone that's not white, my mom and me left past five minutes
As an athlete (I’m a figure skater) I am just pure muscle, and because of my sport I have very large thighs (I used to be a larger person but I lost a lot of weight when I started exercising and stuff and all the fat I had on my legs is just pure muscle now lol) and often times people will call me fat or overweight because of my body shape. The worst times are at shops like this. I went into a sports shop to buy thicker leggings and the cashier told me that it’s good I’ve started exercising and setting goals if I want to fit into something like that. And I looked her dead in the eyes and said “I’m an athlete, the leggings aren’t some goal I want to fit into, they’re for my sport you judgemental prick” and never went back.
I lost 60 lbs and I decided to go to brandy as a reward and I hadn’t even taken 5 steps into the store when an employee came up to me and asked me if I was shopping for someone else. I told her no, I was shopping for me. She told me that she was sorry, but they only had smaller sizes 💀 it was a humbling experience Edit: thank you to all the sweet replies, I really appreciate it!
@@loveshackgirl5033 thank you so much! It was very humiliating at the time but as a Latina, most of us are born to be on the heavier side. I’ve accepted it now, that’s just the way we were made to be. And I’m honestly proud of my body. It took many years for me to feel comfortable in my own skin and I can’t express enough how much I regret being ashamed of myself
Growing up as a teen in the 00s this is nothing new lmao I remember sobbing in Abercrombie because I was now a medium. I hope like most stores back then with this mindset, they either change it up or shut down.
when i was in elementary school i decided to try and fit in with the skinny girls one time by getting an aero sweatshirt and they just made fun of me for being a medium lol 💀 i was 8 years old weeping every time i had to take a shower bc i had to see myself in a mirror. nothing was toxic like weight culture in the 00s
@@rhiannonm8132 I was rail thin as a teenager, to the point that between ages 12 to 15 all I was able to wear was clothes from The Gap kids section sized for 10 year olds. I was bullied a lot those years in High School, by girls and guys alike. Like you can't win in either extreme. Anyways, by age 17 I had gained some weight, so I was happy to finally fit in the "adult" sizes, and went to a Hollister to buy clothes. The girls there were so mean and looked at me like I was diseased or something, but the guys were nicer, and just because of that I ended up buying a pair of jeans there.
i went into one in the mall and i saw a couple girls from school there and one walks up to me and goes “i think you’re looking in the wrong store. nothing here is going to fit you” and she laughs and walks off. I walked out and haven’t been back since.
Oh I'm sorry they did that to you that is so mean spirited of them. Keep your head up they're only mad they can't be a MATERIAL GWROL like you! They are basic! 😭🤚
I didn't know this brand so when I saw a shop had opened up in my mall (it didn't stay open long lol), I checked it out. Clothes didn't even have price tags on them so I just left 😂
I was obsessed with this store when i was like 14 but I'm glad I got over it cause the store does not deserve a single penny from anyone & i hope they close all their stores
Stop. Shopping. At. Brandy Melville wtf why are we still having conversations about how we owned shop workers that think you’re too fat to fit in their one size clothing like it’s something to be proud of
i must be lucky, all the brandys i’ve been in have had super lovely workers, who literally recommend me stuff that would look cute on me, and once they found a top and came up to me and said “omg this would suit u so much!” i’m only 13 and it made me rlly happy
@@Claudia-so8ch one size fits all is like the dumbest thing unless it’s a Halloween costume because they actually fit almost every size most of the time
I had never heard of this place before so I looked up the online shop and they literally only carry size small for all the clothes😂😂😂 that’s so ridiculous
you should watch some deep dive videos on the brand. it’s ran by a man (of course 🙄) and they prefer to burn/destroy their clothes that go out of season rather than sending them to discount stores or donating them, because they don’t want poor people representing the brand. there is much more, but that’s what stuck w me.
@@gabriellaamaya7645 they’re also wildly racist and fatphobic. The guy said he never wanted to see black girls or “fat” girls in his clothes. He can burn right in hell
while the brand is problematic the idea of only varying clothes that fit smaller girls isn’t ridiculous imo. if there are plus size stores there should be petite stores as well.
@@buzzcultseascnn Petite in women’s fashion usually refers to short in stature. I would love to find a store that catered specifically to short women being one myself. But this isn’t the same. Unlike plus size stores, Brandy Melville does not have a varied size range at all. It’s ONLY size small. I think I could maybe be more understanding if it was XXS-S sizes with petite and tall options.
the problem isn’t even them having only small sizes, there are a lot of plus size stores etc and it can also be hard for someone w petite build to find clothes that fit them well the problem are the workers and their attitude, i’ve been wanting to buy this one top in brandy but i’m just so scared to go shopping there bc whenever you get. into the store they judge you and i’ve often been followed through the whole store as if i would steal from them or something, because of my thick tights i obviously can’t fit their pants but the rest fits perfectly and sometimes i just want to het their accessories but whenever i enter the store them looking me up from head to toes makes me feel so bad about myself especially when they then go to the other workers and start whispering and pointing at me ://
You shouldn’t even shop there. I can’t even imagine supporting a company that promotes such horrid standards for women, promotes eating disorders, more. “But the clothes are cute and it doesn’t effect me so 🥰😍🥵”
Heard about that. And as a kinda thin female I refuse to shop there. I could never support something/ someone that promotes beauty standards towards women, and then shame the ones that don’t look “perfect/pretty” Like it’s VERY unnecessary and embarrassing towards the company and the workers there.
Some women are really small and petite .. there should be Brands for all body types regardless. There’s a lot of brands for plus size women and now for very petite women! Just because a women or person is very small doesn’t mean they have an ED.. :)
@@Littlekitten_ All brands should cater to a wide variety of sizes, and the still prevalent issue of clothes being less accessible for bigger women is still there. Not to mention the history of racism this company has. Many representatives of brandy Melville have talked about how racist and fat phobic the company is, and is fully aware how young women starve themselves to fit the clothes. No excuse supporting a horrible company, just because “it doesn’t effect me lol 😍”
@@Littlekitten_ their not saying that every skinny women has a ed their saying it’s going to cause ed with some women to be able to fit into their clothes
I've actually had this at the D&G store in London. I'd just she'd 4 and a half stone and having never thought I be that size in my life decided to treat myself to something I'd always wanted from there. Went in and before I'd even opened my mouth the very helpful ironing board of a lady decided to inform me she thought I'd be better elsewhere as nothing would fit and everything was probably more expensive than I could ever afford. I was actually wearing the said item too and was Gona ask her for a smaller size lol. But telling ya no matter how much u lost or how good u felt. It's all trashed in one easy sentence. It's all well and good saying dont listen but wow it's hard. U get shamed when your bigger and shamed when u loose the weight. It's so easy for someone who's always been thin and never had a weight issue to tell someone to loose weight and laff at them. Shame
@@karli4074 That's a really kind thing to say my lovely really kind of y . And I won't lie I live loud and proud with my size now as I've come to the conclusion that no matter what size people have something to say so bugger it lol. But seriously thanks that's really kind of u. Made my day . Hope u o the same x
im someone who dresses alternative (lots of band shirts, leather chokers, chains, spikes, black on black, etc) and my goal is to go into a brandy melville and watch their reactions as they try to piece together what my ass is doing in that store
I used to be European size medium on top and large on the bottom and the people working at the Hamburg bm were really friendly even tho almost nothing fit me
I've never even heard of this store until now and after reading comments I'm definitely never going there because I'm sure not everyone in the comments shops at the exact same chain.
Would not recommend, they are literally so unwelcoming, cold and judgement. And that atmosphere is encouraged to the employees and shoppers made me feel so uncomfortable buying some socks also they’re very infamous being very white exclusive in their hiring and treatment of customers. You aren’t >xs and white? You are ignored people witll block your path for minutes knowing you’re there and mean mug you
I was the smallest I had ever been walking into that store and employees would just look up at me and give me a dirty look. Like wut?! And then I saw that there wasn’t any price tags on anything & I was like “yeah.. I’ll see myself out.” 😂💀😭
This is why I avoid the storefronts and stick to the online store. Not that I’ve ever faced or been scared to face any discrimination or hatred, but I can’t bring myself to go in anyways. Also, a quick tip for Brandy online: always check if the item of clothing is made in China or Italy, it makes a huge difference on the quality. I’m a smaller person and I hate it when something clearly looks too big for me so Brandy was kind of the perfect solution when it came to some of their basics. I really wish they would just make more sizes because people would buy them! They’re shooting themselves in the foot with this whole toxic gaslight gatekeep girlboss vibe and it’s really sad when they could just be chill and make more sizes ☹️
Hahaha my daughter is 20 and I can relate. I was the most awkward person in Brandy Melville. I was like, "they don't have sizes? Where's the rest of this shirt?"
Recently been getting into your work Mel, & just want to say that the fact that you’re just speaking & sharing your experiences is powerful- & I’m sure you already know this. Being able to talk & compare notes, esp the extensive ones you take, is more valuable than gold. B/c it is wisdom. & wisdom, esp from woman to woman, so graciously given so other ppl don’t have to learn the lesson the hard way is a GIFT. Too many ppl look this gift horse in the mouth, & the fact that anyone can have a mic/phone & broadcast their message whether it’s helpful or not contributes to ppl taking it for granted. But your wisdom, word, & work is valued & appreciated here. I’ve also historically had a bad habit of giving unsolicited advice 😶🌫️I’ve def gotten better over the years but this helps me take inventory so I don’t accidentally or not commit violence on others, & when to check other ppl too. Thanks!
Pacsun was my shit when I was in high school & not once did they ever act like this lolol they don’t have any stores local to me anymore or I’d still shop there if they have the same styles of clothing.
@@SkittleMcPhee23, oh man, me too. They were always nice there. One of the nicest stores, actually. They still have them in all the malls where I live, but I know many have closed. To this day though, they still have some of the cutest clothes.
pacsun is actually really nice , it’s kinda expensive but they employees are always suer polite there and at least they have sizes for everyone there 😂
I can generally fit into a small and their shit doesn't even fit me 😭 their clothes are really boring and over priced too, far better options out there
It's a store where everything is one very small size, especially during the height of the "thigh gap" craze it was very trendy and garnered a lot of clout if you were skinny enough to shop there.
I think they act like that on purpose, maybe makes customers want to prove they can buy more or that things will fit lol. I was reading the reviews for the one where I live in SF. All had reviews lmao
WAIT- as a rural Minnesotan (doncha know) I’ve obviously never heard of this brand, so I looked it up. THEY ONLY SELL A SIZE SMALL?! 😂 Also, no hate on skinny girls… but that’s what all of the models looked like in the teen catalogs when I was a kid, and it pretty much fucked us all up.
Never physically been in a Brandy but I’ve loved them since I was a teen .. always shopped online tho. Their jewelry used to be mad cute but everything there seems kinda blah boring for years now
to anyone that’s above a size 0 read this: you are not fat you are beautiful and perfect the way you are. their clothing isn’t special and you can literally find it at any other store. ur not missing out on anything so don’t be insecure. To anyone that’s a size 0: ur also beautiful and perfect. and while this brand is good for you and I’m happy you have a brand that fits you, you are supporting a bad brand. there is sm creepy scandals behind this brand and I hope you find somewhere else to shop.
They’re always so huge tho it’s crazy. I’ve never heard of a petite only store and I could have used that my entire life. Every xs/s at every other store was always so baggy on me.
I walked into a store where the worker pulled her masks down to help me find something and I cut her off and said “yea I’m not doing this today” and walked out...passed their boss apparently bc I saw that death stare and them signally them to put the mask fucking back on.
