I have a nephew that has expensive stuff like a go-kart and an oculus. Someone made a comment like “must be nice to have parents with enough money to buy things.” His response was, “they didn’t buy me this, I bought it with my allowance!” I laughed and said “buddy, only rich kids get allowances.” Then I noticed he seemed a little shut down, so I told him “it’s good that you were able to save up and work for it in some way though.” Although after that his own parents started talking about how dirt poor they were growing up and how doing chores just meant not getting yelled at by your parents, rather than getting any money.
I have an online friend like this. One time, I tried to talk about the weather with him, and it led to him revealing that he was technically Ukrainian until the age of 12 and then Crimea got annexed by Russia. He only brought it up because I asked him why my weather app listed his location under Ukraine despite him being Russian. This was, like, two years into our friendship. Another time, last October, he said he was tired, and when I asked him why, he said he had spent half the day filling a concrete fence alone. When I expressed my confusion, he clarified that he usually had his uncle to help him. I was like, “Since when have you been pouring concrete?!” He was like, “Since the summer.” I was like, “Why didn’t you tell me?!” And, just like in the video, he was like, “You never asked.” My mom said that, someday, he could be in America and I wouldn’t know, and I’m starting to believe it.

I'm sorry I know I talk like this, but the thing is I used to be the person no one ever noticed or talked to, seriously you have to teach yourself how to have "good chat" the ones who get the attention have learned how to communicate better than you, that's literally all it is, I've been with real models before (people have believed they're out my league) but seriously just teach yourself and don't be shy or nervous to talk to anyone, everyone is insecure, it's all in the way you approach people
