Bert did good at the grocery store. He got quite a bit for what they had. Luckily the store was even open. It's a blessing that y'all have a generator. As well as Bert's family has power. All that snow is crazy! This is why I live in Florida! No snow! But we have hurricanes. So all parts of the country has their vices! Stay safe y'all!

I'm in NH, and when we have these huge storms that take down lots of lines, we have crews that come in from other states. I've seen them from as far as the Carolinas. And on the same note, our utilities have sent crews to other states when disasters have struck there. Linemen are truly a special breed of people! I remember a few years ago, when several line crews pulled down a road where nearly every wire was down, and poles needed to be replaces, several home owners went out, fired up their grills and started feeding the crews.

Same for us in NY. I’m on Long Island and power crews setup a lot at local big parks days before(if there’s a decent warning) big storms come. We must have contracts with other states because we have crews from all over come too. It was not always like this but I would say in the last 10 years, it’s very common.

I live in a somewhat rural area of central Kentucky, and my neighbors tend to stick to ourselves, but when trouble hits, everyone pitches in to help everyone else out. Like in the past couple of weeks, we’ve been hit with several tornadoes, affecting some severely, and people from surrounding areas swarmed in to provide help.

I've been praying for you and everyone in the Fairbanks area this week. In a previous video, you mentioned that those of us along the coast must be laughing at you for how you were dealing with the snow & rain. I can't speak for anyone else but I wasn't laughing. Getting 20" of snow in 24 hours is no laughing matter no matter where you live. And to then have rain on top of that!! Down here in South Central, mainly the Mat-Su/Anchorage area, we also had a bunch of snow but only a few inches and then the rain. Things were still hazardous but not to the same point as what's been going on with all of you. I know that they closed the Parks Hwy for a time somewhere around Healy so that would have impeded your stores from being able to restock the shelves. Our stores were impacted a bit as well as the Glenn Hwy from Anchorage, while not closed, was very slick. Quite a few people decided to take personal days or even vacation days so as to not be driving. I'm so glad that my pastor has me close the church office and that my husband came home from the slope on Christmas Eve. The Lord has truly kept us all safe. this has been the craziest winter I've experienced in almost 49 years in Alaska. And the crazy weather seems to be from coast to coast. Blessings to you all and thanks for keeping us all updated as to how you're doing as I know that you usually take this time after VLOGMAS to rest and regroup.

You need to seriously consider a house generator!! They are expensive but absolutely worth the money!! We live in SC and we have one. We don't have to hook up a generator or make sure we have gas for it. Power goes out-it automatically comes on and it runs our entire house!! It's the BEST money we ever spent on our house!!!! We have a Generac from Lowe's.

Prayers for y’all and all affected by these storms. Sadly the empty shelves are not just due to a storm I am sure, I have been noticing over the past several months and especially most recently that the stores are more and more empty on the shelves. I notice that they are even trying to hide the fact that there is little product on the shelves, by the way the are stocking the items to hide it. It really is a very scary time in the world and this is definitely a lesson to most about being somewhat prepared for any emergency that may come about. Y’all continue to be safe! Happy New Year!

In South Africa we have “load shedding” which means that power is off 4 hours once or twice a day. During the periods where there’s no load shedding, there are often power outages due to cable theft. I grew up in Nashville, Tn & we had a historical ice storm in February 1994. Temperature dropped 40 plus degrees in a matter of hours, there were over 100,000 residents without power. It took the Linemen 2 weeks working 7 days a week and 16 hours a day to get everybody back on. My cousin & I were at the grocery store literally right across the street from my house and it took 30 minutes to get home. It was horrific and sad. When the roads were clear & safe to drive(still with caution) I had went to my Grandmas to do some stuff for them and as I headed home on the interstate I hit a small patch of black ice and the rear end of my car hit the guardrail causing my automatic shutoff to my gas tank to turn on. I was on the shoulder out of the way and hundreds of cars, trucks & 18 wheelers went past me and out of nowhere a car came flying from the on-ramp and hit me! She was going 65 miles per hour as I sat still. She was going 25 mph over the speed limit! The impact was so hard it push my motor over, broke the axle off & of course totaled my car. She was sited for wreck less driving and other things & she was literally shocked that it was her fault! I’m blessed to be here.. I had small injuries and was extremely lucky because I had broken my back 2 years before and even then I wasn’t 100%. I definitely had a guardian angel that day! Sorry to ramble on .. lol In my lifetime I’ve lived through that ice storm, The flood of 2010, and then I moved to Kentucky in 2019 . In 2020 my family lived through the most devastating tornado in Nashville’s history and then Dec 2021 I was 8 miles north of the historical tornado in Kentucky’s history. I’ve seen a lot & am truly blessed. My prayers go out to all of those affected by the Winter storm there in Alaska.

Stephanie, it’s not rambling… that’s an incredible example of Gods love & protection. I used to have to diagram accidents in my previous profession & you are absolutely correct- you should NOT be here…but God had other plans. Don’t know if anyone ever explained accidents to you but there are many traumas from 1 event.. the cars impacting, your body impacts on what is in front of you & your internal organs and brain impacting your skull & bones. For you to have already been dealing with a back injury, I am so thankful that it did not cause paralysis or death. God Bless You & may you be encouraged today. 🥰💕

I know people have asked before why you don't have a whole house generator. I know that they are somewhat expensive, but wow are they worth spending the money on even if your power goes out only once a year. My folks had a large vacation home in rural northern Michigan and it didn't even have to be storming for the power to be out due to the power lines and the tree canopy would bring the power down. For many years we drew water from the lake to flush toilet and we boiled water to drink. When Dad retired my folks moved to the vacation home to settle and the first thing that happened was installing a whole house generator. Now, if power goes, within 15 seconds you never thought there was an outage. Generators are available that run on fuel oil same as your furnace. With Bert's electrical knowledge he could install the necessary house wiring and transfer switch (providing local ordinances allow) which would save lots on install. Stay warm and safe. Hope the sun warms things up a little. Here in Michigan we can relate to heavy snow as well -- good thing it melts!

We go to Fairbanks quite often. Preferably in the winter because I hate the Alaskan state bird (mosquito). When we go in February the whole area turns into an ice cube. It was so bad one year that I slipped and got a concussion on a street called “At Your Own Risk”, go figure. That still doesn’t keep me from going up to Alaska in the winter. Much respect for those who live up there. As one resident told me; “For every reason we think of moving to the lower 48’s, there’s a thousand reasons to stay”. Stay strong and stay warm Alaska.

Careful on that bumpy ice. It can become very sharp-edged and rip up tires. And a good old Coleman stove with some 1# bottles of propane is a great thing to have. Rarely lose power, all utilities are underground so it would take something major. Gas stove and fireplace. It's amazing how reliant we've become on electricity.

A Coleman double propane stove comes in real handy in a power outage. You can cook and heat some water. I am in upstate New York and we get bad storms and loose power. Much love to you guys! You are in my prayers! Pamela

We are in East Texas, and we survived the ice and snow storm last year. We use a gas generator and have gas logs. We try to keep powdered milk and a well stocked pantry. We do have that electric tankless water system. So that is a problem. We have a propane stove and sterno gadgets for cooking. We have lanterns and flashlights. And we just bought a big kerosene heater as back up. We are not exactly living in Alaska, but Texas gets snowed in sometimes too! God bless you all. We really enjoy your videos!

when we live din Missouri we had 8 years of ice storms lost heat, power, we had one propane heater that I would use a grating to warm coffee, no showers pipes frozen I live in the southwest now, and covid and Missouri taught me to always be prepared and never take anything for granted. We are having 50 mile hour winds and 21 degrees, I have plenty of everything and we have a propane heater and range

Sorry y'all are having to go thru this! Last February here in Oregon we had an ice storm (pretty unusual for our area) and were without power at my house for almost two weeks! Most weren't without it for that long, but we live in the boonies on a dead end road, so..🙃 Thankfully we have generators, but it was rough for a while! Stay safe and warm! Happy New Year!

Prayers for everyone. Being in the lower 48 I’m feeling bad about this. When a huge storm takes out large sections of our electrical grid I always feel relief when the linemen from other states are being spotted around town. You guys are so far away I don’t think you get help from other states. I’m glad you guys were back up and running soon. Hopefully it won’t be long for everyone to be back up

Glad you are all OK and praying the rest of the storm doesn't have a huge effect on you. Thank you for sharing all this and showing us what you are going through and the extreme weather in Alaska. It's so good to know you are not only surviving, but as a community, thriving, as you all pull together to help one another. Stay safe ☃️
