Hey Todd and Neenee, wow that home on the river is awsome! That view ,bloody beautiful.Todd what would the legalities be if you wanted to build a western style house by yourself e.g. as an owner builder does here in OZ? and just hiring the labour. Can you buy land as a farang?Does having building experience or license from the west make it easier to build? Thx Todd, cheers Ron
@NowinLao
@NowinLao 2 года назад
A foreigner CAN NOT buy land here... you have to find somebody you can trust. Not too sure about the legalities of it mate. Not sure whether you'd need to employ a Lao project manager or not. Maybe Chris Perkins can chime in... he's up with these things more than I..

Hi Guys As discussed as a Farang you cant own the land, but a long lease of up to 60 years, is easy to do. As for the building part you can basically hire in all the grunt labor you want, and have a play yourself. Any license you have is irrelevant as you are the boss. So long story short, find a trusted Lao and away you go. One last thing is with no disrespect, I would use a Vietnam crew as they work a lot harder for the same money, about $10 a day.
@888hidi7

@@chrisperkins7331 gday M8. THx for the info Chris. Do plans of the proposed building have to be lodged into the local council or the equivalent of? Or once you and Lao partner have the land,is it free reign so to say to build what you like? Thx again Chris,cheers ,Ron

Laos is only beautiful because of the low population, pristine nature, and slow pace of life. The low population makes it a very quiet place to live and room to spread out. No need to worry about crazy neighbors and loud traffic.

ya house looks real nice, right by the river, view is stunning... and best of all in hot places, you can grow any fruits, vegetables on your own, and this river will give you free fish, or do a small fish farming on your own, and all the food wastes will feed the chickens and pigs. hell you can do black fly farming to feed your livestock. all healthy and self cycling nature. just wish laos was close to canada/usa.
@OS253
@OS253 2 года назад
@@smithsamson7342 You would need a very good air conditioning system if you want your house to be a cooler temperature. Otherwise, you can buy a gorgeous house in northern Laos where the air is cool because of the mountains. Either way, I would install a swimming pool too.

@@OS253 when i get to laos, i have a few plans, few experimental living i would like to try out. like living up top the mountains, see how i like the conditions, also the view would be spectacular to wake up to everyday. living next to a river, living in vientianne, business opportunities, living near highspeed train cause i want easy access and to travel to china or thailand via train. i'll give it a year of travelling around laos, check marking a lists of what i like or not like in the areas, including lease land, rentals, etc.. ya it's gonna be a real home work, but an enjoyable one. i'd start a youtube channel once i i settle in, just to get some small income $, etc. where ever i go, i definitely will be helping the community out, cause i want to feel at home and i will need locals help for any issues. anyways, are you living in laos now or you doing your homework also?

Hi Marcus.. We've just recently traveled back to Australia to visit family after 2.5 years, and I'm home sick for Lao already. Australia is great, a lot of conveniences that Lao doesn't have.. but it's just something about the people, the laid back stress free no rush lifestyle that is Lao. That along with the never ending beauty of the country no matter where you are in Lao which really grabs a hold of you. The more time you spend here the more you want to stay and live a simple life. Away from the rat race. Do go easy on me if you're deep diving the archives 😝 Great to have you along Marcus. Thanks Todd

I built a house on stilts just like this 30 years ago in ChiangRai Thailand. Still standing but over time I had to replace some wood the thermites ate. I payed 15’usd. The wood was supposed to be thermite resistant but not all was. They stained another lower grade wood to look the same. Still a great house though. Look up for wood spieces when buying. Great video as always. Greetings from a foot of snow in Sweden

For obvious reasons you ‘have’ to swallow whole. the sensation of them crawling back up is entirely another level. FYI: served mostly as joke, but if you sherk swallowing you are paying the bill for the group/party x Aint cheap to buy drinks and food so really behooves to grin & bear it for us more backpacker types.... @@LaoSoftware Thanks for that. I knew this, I just had what I call a 'brain fart' in which the 2 brain cells I have left can't find each other. Thanks for the reply & have a great day.

We would need a boat when the river floods... otherwise at the 16 min level,...WHY BUILD above the river so high... and why have concrete protection of the pillars supporting the building... with a small room to hide in when typhoons send 100mph winds happen... {Any cyclone rods used to hold the roof to the ground level for high winds?} …Looks good... but... Asbestos roofing as well...??? And termites would go under the concrete slab to get to the posts.. Asian concrete is often of poor quality and termites . . . Well...

Hi Todd! I was born in Laos but left the country 30+ years ago. Am I consider a foreigner since I’ve been gone for that long? Does that mean I’m unable to purchase property in Laos?

If you still have a Laos citizen you can buy a land no problem but if not than you have to marriage laos people so you can buy a land
@NowinLao
@NowinLao 2 года назад
Hey Ketsana.. you're not technically a foreigner, but not able to buy land either unless you become a citizen again, or like tt bb said, marry one. Or option 3, have a Lao person you trust and put it in their name... other than that, you could always long lease.

You will need to become a Lao citizen to put the property in your own name. Other than that, you can do long lease as a foreigner.
