I go shopping at several stores in District 7 and District 1 Saigon, Vietnam for supplies for a special event: my fantasy football draft challenge!
The challenge consisted of four parts:
1) Quarters: making a quarter into a shot glass
2) Flip Cup: flipping plastic cups on the edge of the table so that they land upside down
3) Beer Pong: throwing ping pong balls into cups on a table
4) Name Active NFL Players
I start out in District 7 at the Lotte Mart mall/supermarket. I was able to buy plastic cups and dice here (I needed dice for part four of the challenge). The employees and other shoppers at the mall were kind enough to point me in the right direction to find these items, and they were patient while I spoke broken Vietnamese with them.
I still needed to get ping pong balls, so I went to a sporting goods store in District 1 Saigon to get these items. Once again the staff were very friendly and helpful here, and I was able to get the balls I came for.
I wiffed and forgot to get a shot glass while I was at the Lotte Mart in D7, so I walked around my neighborhood in District 1 and luckily found a small shop that sold shot glasses!
After that, I went home and completed the fantasy football draft challenges. The first two parts (quarters + flip cup) the challenge were timed. The third part (beer pong) was a 10 shot challenge where each made shot would deduct five seconds from the time trial in parts 1 and 2. In the fourth part of the challenge, I had to roll dice to determine the amount of active NFL players I had to name, and a failure to name at least the number of players shown on the dice would result in 5 seconds being added to my time.
The final amount of time to complete the challenges will be compared to everyone else in the league who will do the same challenges, and the lowest time will get first pick in the fantasy football draft, second lowest will get second pick, and so on. I put up a pretty competitive time, so I'm hoping I get one of the first picks in the draft.
I decided to make a video about all of this to show you what shopping in Vietnam is like, to make my time trials for the draft challenge official, and to memorialize the event which I had a lot of fun with.
