I've been keeping an eye on the shad count at Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River. Since the count been in over 20k for several days, decided to took a trip fish for the shad.

I have caught shad up till 4th of July. Some years they are done running. Just watch the shad count if it is over 10K on the 3rd of July they will be there most of them are big females but in one narrow spot in the river since the run is small at that time. Stay safe

Awesome video inspired me enough to take some time off and head down to do some fishing and I was wondering do you have any recommendations on rigs or colors?

Thank you. Get a salmon rod like at least 8’6”, spinning reel like 2000 to 300, line 10 lbs mono, use barrel sinkers in 1/2 to 3/4 Oz., then 30 to 40 inch leader to a Shad dart just like at the end of video for setup. There’s a Chevron gas station in Washougal that sells Shad dart like $0.79 each. I like green/white, chartreuse/green, and red/green. Hope this helps. The run should be good like June 7, 8, and 9th.

Thanks bro. Just google for Shad darts in size 1/16th oz. It’s a weighted jighead usually in two colors like red/chartreuse, green/white, and pink/white.
