How to fish from the shore for Wrasse and other fish. Here I share with you how I target fish from the rocky shoreline. I explain the fishing methods, choosing the tide for the location, what fishing rigs and fishing baits. Wrasse for many sea anglers in the UK is the first fish you ever catch. They are a wonderful colourful fish, they live close to the rocks and shore, they fight hard and they like a wide range of baits. Share the day with me and enjoy some stunning scenery and some wonderful fish.
Here are links to some of the tackle I use in this video. I hope it helps.

I've said this before, but thanks for all this content - when life gets hard some of your videos will pop up and they instantly take me away from the stress and make me feel better, it's the closest I can get to that first breath of sea air when I'm in situations where I can't sack work off and just go play on the beach. I reckon your videos have that effect on a few lads on here, so thanks. Hope life's good to you and your family!

Would love to be out today, looks cracking! Question for anyone out yesterday, anyone see/experience/document a mini tsunami type event, yesterday. lot of folks on east coast of Ireland reporting water rushing out to ankle deep and back up to waist height in the space of 10 mins? Forced in monsterous amounts of weed/kelp by all accounts. Lot of chatter but I can't find any official reports and was hoping someone captured/posted it on the tube, cheers! All the best

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, about 60 miles due east and inland of Rockaway Beach, Oregon. When I was a girl we went to the beach - you would probably say coast - at least 4 to 8 times a year. My mother would take us to the rock pools at low tide. Sometimes we'd go clamming. We'd occasionally look for berries or other wild foods. Sometimes crabbing. Rarely we'd fish. I always wanted to learn more about fishing. I did 5 years Active Duty in the US Navy so I had a chance to go to some really exotic places. My shipmates would go fishing. I went to the beaches with a guy who fished, and that was great fun. Your videos, which I only discovered about 2 months ago, are fascinating. Your work in front of the camera is quite good! I especially like your underwater work, but it's all very wonderful. But it's the editing that I think sells the show. Do you do your own editing?

True fact - We fish the Washington/Oregon Columbia River delta for sturgeon. As we drop anchor, throw out our smelt bait, and settle down waiting for a fish ... I go to my pole, grab the line and 3x yank the line, the fishing pole tip dipping, saying "Bite !, bite !, bite !" My uncle Marvin watches me, with skeptical eyes, ... and everytime (with father) we fish - and I do this - I get the first sturgeon to bite. Ever afterward, uncle Marvin greets me with "bite, bite, bite." Maybe you need to mentor those poles about "catching" (instead of "fishing") with a pole-yanked bite ...

In 2020, Norwegian fish farmers used 3.3 MILLION ballan wrasse in their salmon and sea trout pens! It reduces the need for chemical lice treatments. Apparently Scottish fish farms are planning to follow their example. Let's hope their efforts to breed them are successful so they will no longer need to use wild fish!

Hi John you lucky bugger, what a wonderful part of the country to bring up a family (and that includes the Rock Pipit)! Do you think that Wrasse loose their colour as they mature, also if a fish blows its swim bladder as you haul it in does that mean the fish will die, and have you thought about investing in some round bells to attach to the rod tip with a clip to alert you to a bite? Tight lines

Many thanks for the latest series of videos and well done for the amazing content. Loved the visit to Spargo's. The two of you really do have some chemistry and work well together. Oh, and the dishes are mouthwatering! Hauling lobster pots looks like hard work, and we almost lean toward the TV when you open them up to see whats inside. The latest with the wrasse is amazing, and incredible fish to see. I have yet to catch one from East Devon beaches, but hopefully soon from the kayak... The whole family is now pretty much 'hooked' on your videos, that's my wife, two daughters and me! Look forward to the next one eagerly! Best wishes to you all.

Superb video upload. Some great catches along the shore. You certainly signpost Cornwall as an ideal break away for a holiday and to do some much loved fishing. The huge spider crab you caught was a surprise. The waters around the coast of Cornwall appear to be booming with life. An enjoyable and entertaining video. Thank you for sharing.

I just found your channel this past week and I belive already watched every single video in it... haha. Btw, I'm from the northwest coast of Spain (Galicia to be more presice) and those spider crabs are highly coveted around here (1,5 to 2kg around 70 €)
@TheFishLocker

Haha. I think we have around 350+ videos so to cover them all it’s over 700 hours. So if you’ve done that in a week that’s impressive 🤣

@@TheFishLockerI was obviously being absurd to prove a point, your channel is addictive!! For the past decade I've being living, bc of work, away from the sea and unable to go fishing like I use to... So this is really nice. Thanks a lot. Btw, it's nice to see a creator that still responds to relatively old videos. Keep up the good work good man.

Took my new rod to Portugal last week (after getting into fishing thanks to this channel) managed to catch a small sea bass! Was really good practice sorting out lines and lures and stuff, really just want to say thanks for getting me into fishing, definitely started something here... 😛 can't wait to carry it back on in the UK now, closest access to sea for me is Maldon so will see what I can do here 🙂 Thanks and keep up the fantastic content!

@PenDragonsPig
@PenDragonsPig 2 года назад
Everywhere I went I raided for all the nuts, bolts, and spark plugs I found. And if you wait for dark you go to an estuary (Gannel) with a head lamp and the ground is covered in crabs- hard ones for wrasse, soft or peelers for everything else. Also, chumming- tin can with stones and smashed crabs in it.
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 2 года назад
Peelers are hard to find these days.
@PenDragonsPig

@@TheFishLocker of course this was 35, 40 years ago. Little Petherick railway bridge, Padstow- town side. Where the wall meets the sand/gravel, mud, there will be a layer of bladder wrack growing on the wall- pull the weed aside and there are your crabs in a multitude of fairly shallow cracks. Or visit estuary creeks at night. The Sandy mud north of the bridge, lugworm and white rag- I turned my four tine fork into a 7 tine fork with a little welding. I just had to GoogleEarth something. The White House near WhiteCross, Wadebridge, down a lane to the railway path. There is a big flat there- someone must have found it by now (Maybe not). Crabs under rocks and weed, and maybe an un- or under exploited sandy, muddy lug bed. Walk towards the river in a NW direction. I’m never coming back. I’ve been here slightly longer than my first 30 years over there. Wherever or wherever I die, I’ll still be Cornish. Just to prove how nuts I am. My wife’s grandmother emigrated here from…..Penzance. So if my Piskies didn’t get on the plane with me in 1990, her’s would certainly have got on a boat way back when. Granny lived in the same house as we do now, so there might be double Piskies here.
