I have fairly long arms (6 ft.), and I absolutely cannot TRULY finish a darce on someone with the arm in deep approach. I've been studying/practicing the darce for a month straight with a pain-freak partner, and apart from major crankage (which will get the tap sometimes but not pass someone out), the arm in deep just won't work for me. I've been learning the 'rule of thumb' with the thumb placed on the back of opponents neck, and although it seems very awkward at first, I'm starting to consistently get a blood choke with this technique. My advice to anyone learning the darce: find someone willing to take some pain, and I think you'll find that you're not actually choking them. This choke is much more nuanced than it seems.
thank you !! I just got back from bjj class, and I got exactly in this position. I was on top side control, they guy gets an underhook and go to his knee and I put my arm through for the D'arce, but i have short arms and I couldnt finish the sub, he guy espaced and we had a scramble. anyways, thanks for this video , I will definately try it next class !!!
Not bad. I am big with big, but short arms, big chest (muscle) and bad shoulder flexibility. Most of my opponents are chunky too. For me, if I can get to darce, I just smash down to arm triangle, but there's quite a bit of opportunity for escapes in there, so this is actually pretty useful in a pinch against a slippery opponent.
Nice thanks for the idea because my arms are very short. Also, I wonder if you can transition into a reverse arm triangle from there. I think I'll see if that works too. Thanks again for the great technique!
