Dumping kids w behavior issues in special education. Disrespect by general education teachers, apathy from administrators, mountains of paperwork that will never fully get done. The exodus will only get worse.

Not a lot of people know special education teachers more than anything other group of teachers get sued and are threatened to be sued constantly. The laws has good intentions but they need to be changed.

Here in Southern California the teachers will sue to get the students to a county program that can provide the level of care the kids need. And LOOSE- then get COUNTERSUED…. so the staff is stuck with this child for the duration of their high school career. THE RESENTMENT IS REAL.. A- masters degree and you have to change poopy diapers of a 6’1” foot student.

Increase pay for special education teachers above normal teachers

Stop wasting money on DEI bs, cut administrative staff pay (especially for useless principals), and you'll have enough for permanent SPED staff

I don’t know about where she lives but here in Ohio we can extend special education/schooling for students who need it until 2 weeks before they turn 22 years old and they differ your diploma until then

That's a federal thing but it's usually only reserved for people who are lower functioning, higher functioning kids don't get that.

I worked in Spec ed as a para-ed.. And the bullshit I got in the Edmonds SD from the admin was one of the main reasons i left.. RIGHT RESPONSE doesn't work either..

Bruh they usually learn more from the teachers then they do at home…. They’re literally raised to think they don’t have to do anything because they stay having an income no matter what

I will not be agree with you, because in 70” one in 10000 kids had autism now one in 800 or even less so is proportional, it is a problem but what I said no one wants to talk

Nobody seems to want to discuss the out of control OCCUPATIONAL LICENSING for k-12 teachers when discussing teacher shortages. I'm the author of EIGHT DAYS IN AN INNER CITY SCHOOL

There is a shortage of teachers in general. Working with sped students is often even more challenging and there is more legal red tape that is monitored by the state.
