Oh man... you beat me to this one. I was quite literally going to make this video in about 3 videos from now. You did a better job than I would too. Well done sir! Edit: Seriously, great job. I just watched it a couple more times and once thing you do that I really like is simplify wording. I've never been good a summarizing. Simple, easy to follow, info delivered like a boss.
I used a different method for the three 7506’s I have. I remove the earphone pad from the left earphone, unscrew the 4 screws that hold it together, pull the straight cable section into the earphone housing and carefully wrap it around the driver. Then secure the cable from the inside with a small wire tie and close it back up. This way you have the full stretch of the coiled cable and the weight of the straight section is not bouncing around inside the coiled cable. Try it, you’ll like it, better 😀
Hey Michael, what are the covers you have on your headphones? I scrolled through the comments hoping to see if someone else had asked but I didn't see anything so apologies if this has been asked already. Many thanks!
@@MichaelWynneCAS thank you Michael. Kindly also what lighting set up is that... What lights do you use or do you recommend. I have seen some reviews complain about lack of bass in Sony mdr headphones. Am doing some research for headphones camera and lighting for my RU-vid setup any help with advice will be much appreciated Thanx Mike
@@MichaelWynneCAS thank you for your advice! I’m sure these would sound way better than even way higher priced in ear monitors. Just wanted to make sure these could be used in a live setting
Your method is inventive, and I'm going to check out those great-looking earpad covers. I improvised another method to shorten my MDR-7506 cable. I just stuffed some of the coiled part into a small muslin drawstring bag. (The bag came with some wired earbuds.) I stuffed the half of the coil toward the 3.5mm plug so that the bag would rest near the headphone connection and not dangle. If I ever need the full length of the cable, I can have it in a few seconds. Using a drawstring bag tames the cable quite well. I'll buy a more elegant bag if I come across one.
This is an excellent mod, really makes the cable far more manageable. Another nice mod is getting ZMF Ori lambskin pads installed; increases soundstage/comfort and reduces treble a notch (bass is unaffected, thankfully). They are big pads and don't fit in the plastic lip, the pad lip needs to be stretched over the baffle plate so it sits loosely on the outside cup.

I'm sure those covers are comfy to wear and less sweaty, but the lower frequency response of the headphones changes. The soft material doesn't seal as well to the sides of your head as the pleather ones do, and because of that you lose some of the lower end. Some have said that the real leather pads you can buy are better. I have yet to test that out myself.
Dude! Brilliant hack. I'm falling in love with 7506's again. It's like those time times when your partner drops a bunch of weight. They're always beautiful and amazing. But damn, sometimes the little things make a huge difference.
Wow. So easy. Thanks so much! Now if there was a way of making these headphones a little more comfy to wear around the neck it would make them perfect!
