Because its much safer; the spurs will do minimal damage to an old growth for with the thick bark, and while even if I was lucky enough to reach the canopy via bigshot and 12ounce weight.....the chances of it coming back down are slim and none. When you have a permit for a limited time road closure, its not a time for messing around
My home turf. Driven up and down that road countless times. Such a beautiful spot. You've done quite a few jobs in Goldstream, was wondering when you'd make it to Sooke.
👍 Great video, Thanks Reg Gorgeous area and wow, what a job 💫. Always a joy to watch you and to read your comments. Really clear, high resolution video ⭐ Stay safe my friend, we all love you ♥️🌲 Reg Coates The LEGEND 💫
Reg, you probably get this alot, but I am curious why do you use a Husqvarna instead of a Stihl? Personally I use Husqvarna because it is cheaper than Stihl but I wanted to know your insight. Also, which model saw are you using in this video?
Hi Reg, I love the safety redirect you use at around 8 minutes. I see your cinched in safe, large wood, with your carabiner and then the redirect above into the smaller branch. Is your redirect fashioned from a munter hitch? I like doing the same but resort to a multi sling usually, I love the simplicity of just tying a knot in your climbing line though. Thanks for showing this trade craft.
Oh Reg, I thank you so much for the video that you put out. I can hardly wait for one. Great job! Teach us more even if you think it's mundane. I will still want to watch.
I might have heard you wrong when you said you want to have your Flipline loose because the tree was kind of crumbling and you didn't want to go out and flip around wouldn't you want your Flipline tighter just curious trying to learn why would you want it Loose if I heard correctly thank you reg God bless
I would normally have it loose on a wide tree that was straight up, but didn't want to on this tree because of the severe lean matched with crumbling bark underfoot
I may have been the only one while watching this thinking man I hope none of those funky tetris shaped pieces get hung up over the road on the way down. Any update on the climbing device release?
@@Recoates good watching your planned approach on things Reg, I didn’t start watching this kind of thing till about 10 years ago and too late to retrain!☹️ I’ve been a carpenter for 50 years now and still tempted to buy a set of spurs and give it ago but don’t think I’d be fit enough now! Thanks for taking time to reply, much appreciated Reg. keep safe. 👍🏴
I was subcontracting to a friend on this particular job. To the best of my knowledge, B.C Parks, the CRD or whomever will invite a select few contractors to bid on a job, then decide who gets it. It's usually in a nice location, and they pay generously, but I suspect you'll be waiting a while for that cheque
@@RecoatesI work in the trades. Some Gvmt projects we work you have to post and unencumbered bond, just to bid on the job. If you are fortunate to be chosen, they retain the bond til well past the completion date, and the final payment and bond release can take 12 to 18 months on some of largest projects (inspections, deficiencies remedies, engineers reports etc.). Many companies won't bid at all due to all the red tape.
I'm a simple fella. i see a new reg upload, drop what I'm doing, and watch. not the best decision on a five lane highway, apparently. hopefully insurance will understand if i tell them reg uploaded
Its always such a pleasure watching you work, I find it much more enjoyable to slow down and be more methodical after watching how you approach your climbing, all the best Reg.
I saw Reg appears to have made a comment that may have been intended as a reply to your question, I will copy it here: [Reg:] "Because its much safer; the spurs will do minimal damage to an old growth for with the thick bark, and while even if I was lucky enough to reach the canopy via bigshot and 12ounce weight.....the chances of it coming back down are slim and none.
