Just a 20 minute video of CB listening with some ham stations too.

First, I could have sworn that as you headed north of Ch 11, 27.085 where it sounded like you heard the same guy, basic CB Superbowl style Skip-Jive lol anyway it sounded like we heard a bit of old school, over the horizon radar aka "Russian Woodpecker" with that telltale 10Hz slapping sound. With that roaming blob, I think we are seeing what we typically used to hear where the atmospheric conditions seem to move and shift where the entire receive will peak up and shift around. That said there are antenna analyzers that will sweep an entire band, though the power is miniscule during string conditions you could hear it AND though not proper I have even seen operators use the old school VFO and tune and twist around while transmitting watching their SWR or power out. Not very nice and not too probable in this case as smooth as that looked but maybe wide FM. Or as the commenter mentioned it might be some atmospheric mapping tool looking for the MUF or something but as long as I have been in radio, since the 70s and 80s it has not been uncommon to hear a whiny warbling sound drift through the band. In fact with a quiet radio left on and the squelch up, when you heard that squelch break and the warbly sound push through, you knew it was time to check for long distance conditions. Another one I used to use to alert me was the sound of the clicks and alarms on channel 23, the channel that was used on gate sensors and car alarms. You can still hear them out there but not as prominent as they were in the 80s. My CB radio friends and I called them "Skip-Crickets". As for the illegal noman's land above 27.405 and below the Amateur 28.000, there is a pretty big push right now to get additional channels, mainly to find an acceptable home for the new CB Radio FM channels. FM really does but play very nice on top of AM and SSB based transmissions. Since it has already been allocated in other countries AND trying to cram all the SSB signals into chan 35-40, it seems like it would be a good idea. Last time I really got looking at the allocations there, they were commercial, like ships and the oil industry and IMO with the proliferation of Sat Coms, trying to insist on using 11 meters susceptible to worldwide interference is just dumb. 😅 Just like most the emergency services moved away from their allocation near our 6 Meter band. I think California Highway Patrol is one of the only big outfits trying to maintain that 39-46 MHz and even then I believe they basically use cross-band repeaters in their vehicles. I think with their vast rolling hills that range has worked fairly well. Somebody else can confirm if they still maintain those frequencies. Even then I would suspect the time will come when they move to satellite. The rigs and antennas will be much smaller I expect at some point there will be price will crossover. However as military moves into space maybe that low band 6ish Meter coms will always have its place, especially in emergencies...🤔

Hello and thanks for the video. The handle is Leo. My equipment is as old as I am HII HI. I am going to sell off all my "stuff" as I am 78 in a few days. My thought is to "keep it simple ". Over the past 60 plus years I have built stuff and listen more then talked. Q. would you buy the G90 today or buy something else ? Thanks so much and 73 Leo k

I think that "weird" signal you are seeing is atmospheric research transmissions. It also goes on down below the CB band in the 26 Mhz area. Search the FCC database around that area and you will see certain areas that say RADIOLOCATION or METEOROLOGICAL. As for these people operating in this area, I can't believe as a ham, you don't know what freebanding is.

Thank you for watching. I had not considered that as being the source. I was thinking an encryption of some kind but not research. And as for the freelancing. I've been aware of it, but I don't practice it myself. Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed. 73s DE Va6cqb
