Most power out events will be too small for governments to bother with amature radio restrictions. For all out war, they might but will be too busy to enforce it, and there will be too many people using it anyway. The radio's I have can monitor from 0.500.00mhz to 29.999.99 mhz and from 100.000.00 mhz to 520.000.00 mhz. So, as far as monitoring rf for Intel purposes goes, I'm doing no too bad. For all emergency situations, you want to refrain from transmitting to keep airways clear for emergency radio traffic. I would only transmit if needed. All other times I'll just receive. Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed.
I subscribed. I’ve prepped my ass off over the last 20 years including buying a farm in the woods and arming up. I even was a member of our Sheriffs SAR unit for 15 years. However I have totally neglected radio communications. I’m a Veteran so I’ve used radio but it was always set up by a radioman. I’ll keep watching your channel maybe some kind soul could give me a clue.
The best advice I can possibly give is to, Google your town, city or county followed by ham radio club. There you will find an inviting community to help you learn ham radio. It's cheap as it gets and the knowledge you'll get is worth gold. If you look at some of my other videos on solar or comms. The knowledge is all from ham radio course. I know nothing about it before becoming a ham radio operator. Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed.
Why you want to use series (high volt) though? If your panel is far away and need to run a long wire. Why? Because the higher the volt like in series the thinner the required copper wire. Copper is expensive, you don't want to buy thick copper wires.
Correct the higher amps the thicker the wire needs to be. And the more loss you will have. BUT with a pwm charge controllers they don't covert the high voltage to amps so a parallel connection is better.
The G90 is connected straight to the battery. The video shows interference from the inverter. The batteries are lifepo4. All inverters give off some QRM this video was ment to show that. Thanks for watching.
Meshtastic radio is the only decentralized leagal encryption form of secure messaging communication available in a grid down no power no internet situation that cannot be jammed by the boafeng army or worse. Unfortunately Ham operators are not legally allowed to use encryption on anything so the boafeng gangs will hear you and find your transmission location however you can listen 👂 to it all so this is still good advice
The issue I have with meshtastic is that it has a short range. You need units to extend, but that would depend on having a group in the community. If your 4 or 5 people working together in a small area, it becomes more viable. There are ham radios that have encryption, and in a total grid down situation, no one will be looking for you or trying to enforce radio rules anyway. They will be too busy doing important things.
Great kit, been out of the hobby for a whiloe, just getting back into it. Gonna be traveling all summer, so looking to put together a highly portable kit to take along. Thanks for the info!
2 meter and 70cm is where most of the assistance traffic in a disaster is done. If your part of the help effort you'll use it alot. If your not part of the team then just listen.
Some have battery back up. But there is always simplex or radio to radio communications. My brother lives 17.5 KM away and we can communicate on simplex the whole way. My 2 meter antenna is up 30 ft and I live at a high elevation. Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope you enjoyed
Keep in mind, you can use those charge controllers with the same battery bank if you have the extra panels when you replace them, and want to utilize the second system.
Indeed, a video I have not made yet is on that subject. I'll take a battery with my 20amp and 40amp epever charge controller and show both working at the same time. Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed.
Thanks my whole town lost power with storm this month i am vol F,/R . My first call coulnt get to station lines and trees over the road. Had to detour from another town. Thanks to your video i am setting up a ham shack with tv on antenna am fm SW , cb , 2 meter 70 and HF . Have standby gen and portable solar power generator .And of course one is none. Have my dept radio but want more coverage. Also adding some mobile . Thanks for the channels where to listen.
Keep in mind that frequency changes with location. Research the frequencies in your location. 146.520 is the northAmerican calling frequency. For your hf rig, the G90 is inexpensive and punches far above its price point. Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed.
Just wondering this as I have built a large faraday box inside a shipping container. Does anyone on here not prepare for the possibility of a HEMP? I have put radios, computers, solar panels, wind turbines and all batteries and electronics I will need to be off grid in a time of need. I did this as I knew about the use of nuclear weapons to cause an electro magnetic pulse that will fry electronics and destroy the power grid. I know everything I don’t have protected will be unusable after an EMP, but has anyone else thought of this and the possible outcome? Or prepared for this outcome? Great video and lots of information. Thanks 🙏
To test your Faraday cage, put your cellphone in it then call the phone. If it shows a missed call the signal got through. Most preppers that rely on a Faraday cage never test them, they just assume it will work. Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed
extra radios in alum wrap metal cabinet and metal trash cans. But when to pull them out? I think when I would need one as an extra to replace my primary.
I have off grid capability due to my involvement in Air Force MARS. Solar, battery, generator, some tricks that Nicola Tesla used, and what I learned thru the MARS program. My truck has an extra 13 VDC generator to operate my equipment when the mains fail. As far as frequency coverage is concerned, I have all modes DC to 1Gig coverages. 40 years a Ham has taught me that Amateur Radio is not 2 meters only.
It's funny when I got ham certified I thought I new radio. Then I got started on the path of the ham and found out there's so much more than meets the eye. I've never used ac power for my radio's it's always been solar battery. So the last time the power went out at my house I did not know until my son said the internet was down. Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed.
You make a great point…double check your equipment to be sure it works properly. It’s the 6-P theory that everyone should adhere to. Prior Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance.
Hook up a scope to it and you'll immediate see why this low budget high frequency, thansformerless inverter is not a good investment. Especially when your refrigerator or freezer kicks in.
My kit is all mobile solar. They can find what direction I was while transmitting. But not where I'll be by the time they get there... Never use the same TX sight twice. One and done. Thanks for your comment and watching. I hope you enjoyed.
Been doing it for years, always carry your new gear, parts, ect. In a black plastic bag. Remember that you are probably getting into someone’s clock radio
I agree. I don't live in an HOA. It's just another unofficial branch of idiots acting like government to tell you how to live your life. All the while drinking bottle after bottle of vine trying to convince you they don't have a drinking problem or an unhappy marriage. But that's just my take on HOA's. Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed.
@@LiveFree-pk8ej I moved off the grid a few months ago and I found your channel a couple weeks ago 👍🇨🇦🤠. I spend nearly all my downtime watching RU-vid videos about solar and the like, and that's how I came across you. We're subbed 🐶🐶🤠
@@LiveFree-pk8ej I did this during 911, I was in my vehicle 150 miles from home working in southern Illinois. Hearin the air traffic and reroutes told me right away something big was possible.
@@MountainMan7.62x39 Yes, it is, buddy BUT....GMRS is a difference services from the ham uhf/vhf. AKA you can't use them if you only have your ham license. Thanks you for playing. Next time read a book before you post your nonsense, son. P.S. Good luck with that round.
Good morning friend! I have a 30a epevers 3210 charge controller and it makes a high pitched ring. Do your tracer controllers make a soft, high pitched ring when operating? I'm having to exchange mine for a Victron
No I've not noticed anything. I have the controller in 20,40 and 100 amp no ringing at all. But you are the second person to have this issue that I'm aware of. Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed
@@LiveFree-pk8ej I've also found others saying they heard a ring in the 20 and 40. It's a shame because it seems nice and seems to work well, but I just can't stand that ringing noise 😂
@@LiveFree-pk8ej I don't cut and shorten my wires either, mainly because i'm always upgrading and rearranging the layout. So the excess wire always looks confusing and messy. "Completed systems" can be wired clean, but you and i are not there yet.
That's the same thing I do. Just leave the wire long for future upgrades. Funny thing about hobby solar is your never done. Just a purchase away from the next evaluation of the system. Case in point my second 320ah battery has arrived yesterday and is now all hooked up. I'll do a video showing that and talking about how I messed up getting 4 foot 1/0 cables and not the 6 foot I thought I was getting (didn't read fine print, again).
I've had a lot of expensive "fun" finding a decent inverter for my stuff. Tried Powerjack (u-power) and they were incredible, but then randomly blew up while under loaded. Then tried a few other cheap ones and had similar results, then bought a DIY board off EBAY. I used it with the big transformer from the powerjack inverter. Rock solid! The voltage sags a bit when you put a big load on it, but it's been going for months running a 9000 btu mini split that pulls 2000W at times. 12v batteries with 220v and 110v output. Starts and runs my air compressor when I ask it to, runs the circular saw, and with this one, there's no weird little flicker every couple seconds in the light bulbs if I'm running them on it.
Thanks for your comment. And half the fun is finding good inverters. Most are cheaply made and claim to be 3000 watt it's 300 if. Or pure sine wave and it's really poor modified. So far the new one I just got is doing good but I also rant and preach about testing and vetting your gear. Nothing like needing it to work and finding out it won't. Thanks for watching I hope you enjoyed.
Very cool, I recently moved into the forest of Atlantic Canada in a travel trailer. I've been fully off grid for 2 months now and my solar system is finally brewing a pot of coffee each morning, and running my fridge 24/7. I decided to run a separate, very cheap solar system for lighting. I have a similar charge controller and I've got a strange problem. My controller makes a soft high pitched ring when there is no power coming from the solar panel, as soon as the controller receives power from the sun the ringing stops. Have you noticed this?
Thanks for your comment. No I've not had that experience. I'm not sure what would cause that to happen. At some point this system will be in a trailer or rv. But for now I have time to build it up and work out all the bugs. Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed.
@@LiveFree-pk8ej My only complaint with the epevers Tracer 3210 is the ringing noise. It's brand new so I don't know if it's typical behavior. My controller is smaller than yours but they are very similar design. Good morning from New Brunswick 👋
@MaritimeUnprepared Weird not sure the issue it has. I have the 2210,4210 and the 100 amp in the video none of them make noise when solar is out for the night. You may want to try another one to see, but who wants to spend money they have already spent.
@@LiveFree-pk8ej I've been talking to customer support about it and they are looking into it. I filmed a RU-vid video and the service person watched it, they are now looking into why it's doing that. I was thinking about trying the BN series of charge controller if this noise is normal. Maybe I've just got sensitive ears? Lol
Have fun with those breakers..... I had the exact same ones and they were useless at anything over 150a for 10mins they would heat up and trip. I only had them for short protection because inverters can do that, but upgraded the BMS to one with short detection.
@@LiveFree-pk8ej price and quality don't go hand in hand anymore, you get sellers with sub-sellers at different prices, cost a dollar to make and one will sell for 5 and another one for 50 and anything in-between, this way they snag the bargain hunter and the guy who thinks paying more gets a better product. And it's not only the cheap products it's the big name brands at it too. I once bought some fancy headlights bulbs that were a knock-off of a big brand, exact same product from the same factory, but out the back door at night etc. Big brand where not interested and I thought it odd till it was explained to me that they let them do this to make up for the poor wages as they don't want the increased production costs, so to get a good deal they turn a blind eye provided they don't use the same packaging.
Love the great point of view opinions you have. I also have some baofeng ht’s. My base is a Motorola that is quite old, but all tweaked. Thanks for your input on my channel on specific radios. Appreciate it. 73s
I agree 100%. It punches far above its price point. Thanks for watching and commenting. If you feel you could use a good laugh. The first video I posted on my channel will get you laughing. I was going to laugh while making the video but the guy in it was aggravated and armed with a gun. Enjoy
HEY ITS VA3DLO,,,NICE G90 RADIO,.. DEPENDS ON YOUR REGINE CORRECT.. START WITH YOUR LOCAL REPEATERS... SOME REPEATERS RUN BACK UP BATTERIE POWER,,,, YES VITAL INFORMATION LIKE HE SED POWER OUTAGES HOW BIG IS A BLACK OUT WHEN WILL POWER BE ON AND SUTCH.... USUALLY LOCAL INFORMATION UIS WHAT I USE WHEN SHTF... AS THE SHTF IN MY LOCAL AREA DOESNT MEEN SHTF IN A NOTHER COUNTRY....
I feel the same way. HF to listen globally or Hawaii, some where else on the continent. I've got 12 volt 320 amp hour lifepo4 with 512 watt solar. Still upgrading piece by piece. The batt is new and I'm biding time to get another one. Just upgraded the charge controller to 100amp from 40amp. 1300 watts new solar is next. Then try to shut me up. LOL.
