imagine spending all day getting ready, the next day driving an hour or so to your destination, another hour setting up, and then going home 30 minutes later because the day was just that good.
Hey I’ll take that more often than not! This hunt was a different story though; Leaving work 15 minutes early, speeding my way to the boat ramp not far from home, hurrying up and getting the boat in and running out and setting up quickly with only an hour and a half of shooting time!
Another point to this though is the countless hours spent scouting to put friends on the good field hunts and stuff, that really is a ton of planning and driving and set up and work all for a few moments of awesomeness! It’s always worth it 🤘🏻
@@hunterkels8 Id like to think that the whole part of going hunting would be to enjoy the outdoors while waiting. you dont go fishing for 5 minutes, you go for a day. Catch and release doesnt go so well with ducks...
@@utley very true as well, I’ve sat plenty of days all day and barely even fired a shot, my buddy and I are also to the point we really don’t take all the shots unless they’re decoying nice. I have plenty of footage of just watching birds without shooting, even before shooting a limit. I’d love to post some of that stuff too. Maybe I will. I appreciate your comment and perspective
Not sure how this showed up in my recommended feed as I don't hunt, but figured I'd click since it's short and fast. Then I realized from the background where you were, I've pulled so many good bass out of that pad field in the summer. Really strange if the YT algorithm picked that up despite not taking any pics or video in the area myself.
In most cases yeah! This one was after work so I only had about an hour or two of shooting time til dark. I don’t mind when it’s a quick one after work
When I was about 5 years old my father, grandfather and a friend went duck hunting, walking up to ponds. This one pond the ducks were spooky and grandpa and the friend crawled about 400 yards jumped up and each shot 3 times. They collected 35 ducks. This is just less than 6 birds a shot. This could have caused them to get major fines as the daily limit was 5 ducks. The moral of the story is count the falling birds.
Very good lesson! When they’re balled up it can get messy really fast. We used to jump shoot birds when we were younger but I can’t even remember the last time I jump shot any. Not too hard to count em hunting solo but sometimes in a group ya really have to keep a solid count!
@@hunterkels8 Man we need a tour of your garage, your vehicle, your trailer, your boat, what you ate for breakfast before you put your gear on - what gear it is - *how* you put it on (and in what order), 45 minutes of life experience and then footage of every second before you get the first bird lolol
That's the beauty of hunting waterfowl: You could freeze your bum off for hours waiting for them to show up, or get close enough to no avail... The next time, you go out, and in less than 20 minutes, you and your party are all limited out. That's why I prefer private property Pheasant hunting out west...lots of walking, lots of action no matter what. Anyways, stumbled upon this channel from the magic algorithm. Nice shootin' Cheers.
*Ducks are one of my favorite animals. I had one briefly as a pet. He would come wobbling up to me and actually chase me if I ran. Have mixed emotions seeing Kelsey gunning down all these little niggas. He is doing nothing illegal though, and what a man does for recreation is none of my business. He could even be doing it to put some meals on the table for all I know.*
In person I could pretty much confirm see all of them from where I shot. the wind gets them blowing and moving so gotta get em quick or it does get confusing lol
@@aliayan1133in my opinion the most expensive “Hunting” is Waterfowl in general so Ducks/Geese if you include everything from Licenses/Permits Boats + Gear (Weapons/Ammo/Clothes/Decoys) spent $3200 couple weeks before opening day and that’s without a boat
Yep same, I don’t mind it for an afternoon after work but for geese or mallards it does seem bitter sweet some of those days when you finally have their number and get done fast
I don’t take the good days for granted! I’ve sat many a slow days as well in my area but over the years we’ve built up a large variety of spots, helps to have many options when other ones aren’t working out. Anyways glad you enjoy the video though! Thanks for watching
Nice hunt brother. I used to duck and goose hunt with my uncle all the time when i was younger. Havent since then though. Still my favorite type of hunting. Nice shots.
Thanks for the comment! It’s a mud skipper twister lite. You can get a 7 hp predator motor to go on them from harbor freight pretty cheap, I happen to have a Honda 5 hp
I personally use; 3” 1 1/4 oz. #1 shot steel for an all around shoot anything load. I shoot 3” #3 boss (bismuth) for big geese. My choke is a briley helix Hunter long range. I like a tighter pattern. My gun with those loads patterns well and it gives me a lot of confidence in my shooting. The other day a buddy I was hunting with was shooting 3” #6 steel next to me and hitting them just as far. To me it’s about finding something you have confidence in. Hope that helps
It is very difficult spotting them in those laid down pads, best to go pick them up right away because if the wind starts blowing them they get very confusing to find haha. We don’t lose very many though
@@johnbracewell3700 oh interesting. I assumed carrying a duck in deep water would make it hard for the pup to travel any real distance. Never duck hunted before though
@kennethbeard881 You gotta admit, though, there was skill involved in that video. I don't think he missed a single shot he took. I've been hunting plenty of times and had a lot of bird come at me, and I've never hit every single shot like that. I totally understand about not having any targets, though. Some days, there's just no birds in sight.
Hmm I wonder who you saw because I would’ve been working all day and this hunt was that afternoon, and I don’t hunt any draw areas, I don’t mind talking though!
Theres a guy who gets about 40 a day where I live.. Game warden never comes out. Crazy thing is its directly behind the largest Police station in Canada.. I hear him every morning. Hundreds of shots. its a non protected bird habitat on lake Simcoe. The only area without cottages and homes, so all the migratory birds land there.
@@MeatCognition probably does like a lot of people where I live, kill, freeze, have food for the winter. 40 birds would last the entirerity of winter if you have a family and eat them 2 times a week. where I live, my uncle usually gets 2-3 deer a year, two deer feeds his entire family through the winter combined with the stuff he farmed up during summer and the ducks and rabbits he also gets. I only see that man go to the store for spices, butter, oil, and basic necessities like toilet paper. he never buys food.
@@sheepbleat6556 Makes me feel better if he's actually utilizing the birds, but if he's back there killing way beyond the legal limit it's an issue. Those limits are in place to protect populations and he seems to be going well beyond those.
@@sheepbleat6556 IF its for family sustenance I would never have a problem. But I have a strong feeling he is selling the meat. I should also mention he started the season 2 weeks early as well.. Im guessing hes a cop and knows this area wont be disrupted by his buddies.
i recollect about 200 jacks comin in to me and my dad one morning right after shootin time and they wadded up over the dekes right when we unloaded 2 guns, stars were aligned, timin was right. we were done. but im not a one upper, just brings back fond memories
I think they're actually a species of lotus plants, luscious lotus. They're very common in marshes and dams around where I live. I could definitely be wrong though. If you look them up on google images they definitely look like a match (after they're wilted, that is)
@@hunterkels8my father in law religiously uses Kent literally all he uses might have to pick some up all i have is what my buddy gave me 2 boxes of Rio Blues , 2 boxes of Federal Speed Shok and 1 box of Blind side went though half of the Rio and Federal i live walking distance to the Henderson Levee / Basin but need a damn boat to really get in there
@@bigolehayden right now they are my favorite steel load out of my gun, i notice more consistency out of them than comparable loads in different brands. Used to be Winchester supremes back in the day, then I really liked estates for awhile. They discontinue and change them as soon as ya like em so always gotta find the next one. Right now I’m liking these kents
It’s really awesome with good friends that are also into it. There’s a whole world to dive into. A lot of people online will help you with advice. But! Learning all the little tricks and tendencies of birds and the countless variables that go into any set up along the way by trial and error is what makes it a passion. Good luck!
@@hunterkels8 there are some folks on day shift in the machine shop that want to take me out, but working graveyard is getting in the way. i plan on getting out there if i can land a position on days. sounds like a really awesome world to dive into
@@crexhuntclubit’s so weird the little subtleties between states in the way they word the regulations haha. So that mean they don’t allow like skull boats? Or the layout diver boats?
I mean I take that as a good not bad 🤣 it should play in decent quality if ya turn the settings up, I record in 4k I think it only uploads to RU-vid in 1080? Not too sure. Also the far away shots are meh with the go pro.
@@woalmann6288 yeah they’re awesome decoys, especially for walking in. I’ve also been looking at heyday decoys but I really don’t need to buy any at the moment haha
@@hunterkels8 that’s good to hear, I had some hey day (lifetime when I bought them) and the paint on the bills started cracking from the bills flexing. I ended up selling them.
@@woalmann6288 I've got a six pack of the Dakota packables. Super nice on a long walk if I am hunting smaller water. Beats dragging a sled a mile through the woods with a pile of decoys. Can even squish the air out of them and fit them in my drybag backpack if I have to.
the absolute best/worst part of duck hunting is how fast paced it is. all that lead up only to shoot your limit in like 60 seconds or less. my personal record is about 9 seconds give or take first light.
Well to be technical it was probably an hour long hunt lol. But from when the first bird hits the water to the last is what the title references 🤘🏻 sorry about the click baity title
I respect your comment! I’ve always had a fascination with birds, kept audobon bird books and would say I’ve gathered more than the average persons understanding and appreciation of them.. I’ve always loved to hunt them too though 🤷🏻♂️ just how the cookie crumbled for me! There’s a feeling a hunter can’t describe of being out there “amongst” them.. again, appreciate the level-headed comment 🤘🏻
I wanna say I read somewhere the average accuracy of waterfowl hunters is one bird per 3-5 shots fired, I think I can speak for most waterfowlers saying there are days you shoot almost a whole box of shells to get a limit. These videos often show above average hunts! It’s like anything, it takes lots of skill, but skill makes it look easier than it actually is.
@hobbyhobbyhobbyhobby Birdshot is designed to kill birds and leave meat to eat, hence the name. If you're complaining that he used birdshot as appropriate because it "doesn't take skill" then you're arguing in favor of killing just to kill and wasting meat you pychopath.
