This was a badass song. Kind of makes you think about the possibilities Hard Rock could have went in with in the 90s if grunge had taken over . Still very melodic with great production but heavier then what we were used to hearing. Even a slight subtle hint of industrial......
It's funny, Violent New Breed was their "getting dropped from their label" album but I LOVED it! It's like this sound plus really heavy old school Nine Inch Nails or something. Tim Skold's solo album SKOLD was also good :)
@@psychedelicfright85 True. There were a few heavier tunes I liked though ... and I even got to see him perform them live with KMFDM. He was playing bass for the KMFDM songs, but lead vocals for his Skold songs.
@Tom Doerfler hey my name is Tom and my brother's name is Steve too!! But we are both 🎤🎹chitty🎸 musicians! I do have a shotgun.🥴 Not relevant...I'm sure.... Thanks for the update though.... cheers
1991.. there is nothing special about this guitar solo. Not ahead of it's time. Copied hundreds of metal hair bands with similar styles. As a guitarist, this solo was good. But way ahead of it's time, nah.
@@thelrain I agree. That's like saying Metallica is underated. The solo in this song was too late if anything. Great guitar work in this tune. Kid was on fire.
Are you serious?? this was out during the cassette era? WOW,, I am so behind times,, I am just now really diggin this band. Give me some other classic tunes from Shotgun Messiah,, Thanks for sharing.
@@rayedgell1847 Yeah, this was released in 1992. Cassettes were still going at that time, as CDs were gaining steam through the early 90's. Record labels did not stop making cassettes until early 2002.
@@Skiddy622 I bought this when it first came out on cassette. Still have the tape, although I was able to burn a CD of it when stand-alone CD burners first hit the market. I'm so old, I sat next to Betty White in second grade.
my exact fav era of music! The transition was just gold. The best of Hard Rock at its very peak before all that arty farty 90s alternative crap came up.
If you miss this sound, check out bands from Sweden, Finland, Brazil, etc. Hardcore Superstar, Crashdiet, Santa Cruz, Shiraz Lane, there is so many bands from overseas that have not only the 80's look, but the sound also.
Probably better than most bands, Harry Cody was seriously and criminally underrated as was the band as a whole. True guitar master with a feel, style and sound all his very own!
They don`t make the Tunes like that anymore!! I was blessed to grow up in the 80`s! My cassette tape wore out long ago, stretched out so bad it did not sound like the same band anymore ;p
Damn how they walk that guitar 🎸 down into the drums, shit is badass. Makes you wonder how the hell a bad ass band like this just vanishes after 1991-93
Record company greed? There was certainly enough room for both genres. Nirvana was around in late 80s, Alice in Chains opened for Poison on thier F&B tour in early 91 up in the PNW. Many claim grunge killed "80s bands", but its not too tru. Slaughter released wild life in early summer of 92 and mtv played the shit out of that song and I think it was a top ten album at one point, mtv played Warrant's machine gun video a lot, there was a movie with cuba gooding jr called gladiator that Warrant covered queen's We will rock you which was on the soundtrack, mtv played that video many times. Vince neil had his solo stuff mtv played your invited but your friend cant come video a lot and he played it live at 92 or 93 mtv awards. Firehouse had hold your fire mtv played when I look into your eyes to death and it was a top 20 hit also. Poison released native tongue in 1993 and the stand video was on mtv a lot, they were on leno, arsenio, etc. I don't know if mr big is included in that scene but wild world was played on mtv and radio so much I was sick of hearing it. Was extreme a hairband? mtv played the shit out of the rest in peace video, Trixter released their Hear album in 92 mtv played a video from that album I think it was road of a thousand dreams, of course trixter was wearing flannel and shit back late 89. If anything grunge forced the bands that could afford it, to take a break. Many bands were still releasing albums It really never went anywhere. It was just a "renaissance reshuffling" of music.
I just heard that SHOTGUN MESSIAH is going to reunite. There is an article on Sleaze Roxx about it. Dynamic Talent International has posted it on their site. We need to bombard everyone about this!
still radio silence on this happening, I see. I dunno if Tim would be welcome to doing another Shotgun Messiah album, he seems to be all about his dark brooding industrial music nowadays.
I know Tim went on to play with a lot of bands...Marilyn Manson for one...these guys should have been bigger...their last album was really industrial sounding.
Harry Cody should of been a household name Fantastic guitars on this song and the rest of the album for that matter, which just goes to show real talent doesn't always get noticed in this world by the masses ! and that pick scratch with the copper pick he used on Heartbreak Blvd sounds as great today as it did the first time I heard it back in 1991 !
@@psychedelicfright85 I think over time they get angry that they never got the fame and fortune that should of came their way . These guys today would be in their mid to late 50's -- just saying .............
It was difficult to pinpoint this band and label it (what for right?) in the middle of hair bands back in the day. And that was because they were pure talent. Class A songwriting and performance.
My God what a killer song from a GREAT BAND !!! Harry K. Cody has to be the most underrated guitarist EVER !!! Wish these dudes were still around. Thank you for this post. Wearing it out like I did when I bought this cassette way back in 1992. METAL RULZ !!!
Man it's literally been at least 25 years since I heard this song! Had the CD in college that disappeared and my cassette tape of their debut self titled turned to dust lol! Damn good memories. Thanks for posting.
Because there's not that many Cool people!!! Only a hand full. The masses for the most part are pathetic and Lame and only go along with whatever they are being programmed with, which is sh*t!
Wow! This band has an electric feel. They have such an interesting sound that takes us up real high and then brings us down once again. This song makes me feel energized!! Love it.
I ALWAYS wish grunge hadn't come along when it did. I think hair metal could have gone on another decade for sure....grunge was actually "okay" for what it was...I just wish it could have maybe existed alongside hair metal rather than replacing it....I'm just not sure why fans felt that depressing, no-frills, angst-ridden, simple music was a favorable alternative to cool hair, general bad-assery, lights & lasers and melodic music about partying & getting laid! smh.
Hey Yea-aaah! Huuuh! Well, she's a pretty girl, and I don't ask for more You know that touch of hers makes my heart beat like it never did before I didn't know that anything could be this good She makes me do things I don't really think I should Like I don't even care as long as she's there She makes me go much further than I normaly would Naa naa na-na-naa naa na-na-naa Can't you see what you're doin' to me? I just noticed that during the solo that starts around 3:10, the guitar changes several times through it. One is a double cut, single pickup, and the other is the standard LP style single cut, maybe a Melody Maker, with two pickups. Both the same color, so I guess I wasn't supposed to notice. LOL
Brian May, from Queen, puts a half pence on the train tracks, and shapes it into pick shape after its been run over, pretty kewl, but he might also have a Phaser effect there
if you scratch the guitar pick along the strings, they will make that noise as they it goes in the grooves of the windings of the thicker strings... I hope I Was clear.
