There was one point in the manga, a few chapters after where the anime ended, where the girls encounter a museum and end up hanging up a simple drawing... right next to a stone featuring neanderthal wall paintings. The first and last of man's art. Side by side. Here, at the end of days.
Minase and Kubo worked so well together throughout this series. Consider what a demanding task it was to be nearly the only voices over twelve episodes. Plus they both can sing, and their voices harmonize well. They sang the OP and ED, too.
They really do deserve all the credit in the world! But let's not forget about the composer of this wonderful soundtrack! Kenichiro Suehiro really made some amazing arrangements for this anime!
true, whoever casted Kubo and Inorin for the roles was a genious. not only for picking them based on their individual talent but also because their voice acting really harmonized perfectly
I didn't know that was them singing in the OP and ED, but I suspected. They did a great job; I've seen other shows that I thought were great that tried to do same thing and it really ended up detracting from the overall product. But it turned out really good here, especially the ED.
I bought the special edition of the anime that came with a booklet, it had an interview with the two of them in it. They seemed to both have a ton of fun acting together, and they really wanted more of the manga to get adapted so they could return to the characters again.
Spoilers I find it a bit funny how everyone says that the ending of the manga left them heartbroken and emotionally destroyed. While I can't say that I didn't feel awful, at the same time, i fully anticipated that ending. From the very beginning, it was more than obvious where the anime was heading. Every goal the characters Chi and Yuu met has failed. Every task was pointless. It was never a story of characters achieving their goals through hardship. Quite the contrary, it was "sometimes, there really might be no point in continuing on. There wasn't a point to begin with". And yet, what I find meaningful, is that Chi and Yuu help everyone they meet. Sometimes their help is insignificant. Sometimes their help is accidental. But they do help. We often think to ourselves "well, if I don't' do it, someone else will - it doesn't have to be me". But in GLT world, that's not happening. No one else would've saved Kanazawa on the elevator. No one else would've watched the Ishii take flight. No one else but our girls could've saved the fish in a tank. No one else would've delivered Nuko to its family. The AI has waited for decades (at least!!!) for someone just to come and end him. The anime shows time and time again how important human connections are, how much just being near each other helps us. But no one demonstrates its better than the girls themselves. They are always there for each other. And while it may sometimes feel like girls can be pretty independent, that's simply not true. Yeah, Chi is smart, educated, responsible, self-sufficient (always being the one to do the laundry and try to repair the vehicle). But she is always anxious, overthinks a lot, tends to feel melancholic, afraid of many things, especially the heights. Yeah, Yuu is light-headed, positive, energetic, brave, quick to adapt, and has good intuition. But she also can't read, she doesn't know almost anything about the world, she is no good at creating plans, nor does she has any particular skills other than being good at shooting and good physical form. Plus she is afraid of darkness. Without Yuu, Chi would've been to scared to make a single move and would've probably given up really fast. Without Chi, Yuu would've wandered aimlessly and either got herself into a dangerous situation or went starving due to poor resource management. But even past their skills, they both simply were making each other happier. They were arguing together, they were laughing together, they were talking, they were driving, they were resting, they were acting. All together. And what's the most heartbreaking, we actually *kind of* saw what could've happened to our girls, if the manga didn't end the way it did. Kanazawa. He also traveled with a person he most probably held dear to his heart. He also had a vehicle. But his vehicle got broken. He lost his only companion. And while Yuu persuaded him to keep living, one must ask if its really worth it. And with him giving away his camera, whether he really did listen to the advice. Now, its true that maybe he did find new people. Maybe he did find new meaning to life. Maybe mushroom people are mistaken and there are actually some people left, perhaps outside the city. And the Chi even acknowledges in the ending that maybe there was a better path for them to follow. That maybe their journey to the top of the city was a mistake. But that's the point of the ending. Not that we should just accept death, lie on the floor and die. But that we should accept life as it goes. There is no point in pondering how things could've gotten the other way. Life goes on, the decisions are being made and we must accept life as it is. Its not just the fact that their situation was hopeless. Its also the fact that they were still together. The series started with a "war" over the food ration. Chi suggested that people will fight when there is, for example, 3 people, with food enough only for 2. Then, they fight over the ration even when there is no dire need. And the manga constantly reminds us that Yuu doesn't like anything more than to eat. But in the end, Yuu shares with Chi their last ration. In the end, they cherish each other more than their own lives. They cherish their connection more than existence. They end it satisfied, together. They had enough. They have enough.
They're happy in the afterlife together where they don't need to eat, sleep or survive the cold. It's hard to accept they died, but they are way better now, so i'm glad they are fine in the life after death
How bittersweet this series is indeed. They accomplished the impossible and made it to the top layer! Only, to find nothing. There is truly nothing that they can do now. Except find the good in their situation. Have a snowball fight, eat the last of their rations, and talk about how great being alive is, despite how hopeless their situation seems. They tell each other they'll figure out what to do in the morning, but I think they both knew, deep, deep down, that this was the end for them. The kettenkrad had broken down. Yuuri had gotten rid of the gun. Chi-chan had burned the books that she had cherished so deeply just so they could live another day. But even when they faced the end of their journey; Neither were saddened. For they found comfort in each other. They, the last two living beings in the world. They had seen everything that there was left to see on Earth. There would be no reason to keep on going. And yet, it is still so painful. Painful beyond belief. I still tear up thinking about it. Though, I suppose that was inevitable in the end. So, to the two little girls who knew nothing but the harshest realities that the Earth and humanity had to offer; I wish you goodnight. Goodnight, and have wonderful dreams.
At the very least, humans will be able to live in another planet. Hope the author expands on what happened to the third rocket that successfully made it out of the solar system.

What I like about Girls' Last Tour anime, is they did a really great job on adapting it and they even went the lengths of putting hidden details on their song lyrics.
this song holds a special place in my heart, this show started to air in 2018, in May 31'st my dad passed away from a heart attack and a couple days later this episode came out and i watched it with a friend on discord, i was crying because it made me think of my dad. Never in my life had i had an anime song move me before...
Arild Vestrheim same... after reading the ending I cried while listening to this song. But eventually found peace. I never want to forget this amazing journey.
@@apatheticdeity6030 Yeah, I still think they deserved a truly happy ending, but if they really were the last humans alive anywhere, and with the world the way it was...maybe this was the best they could hope for. At least they were together as they drifted off 😭
I love how the manga ends. It might be me or you or any one of us who'll be the last human being or alive being in the world. Walking around or with your good ol bike, trike, scooter, etc. Looking for food, water, etc. Trying to survive. And listening to a song that's been years passed is a heartwarming thing that any being would be listen to whatever the genre it is. Through rough times and lazy days to strong and funny adventures to down right sad that you can't move forward. Questions like is life worth living is nonsense in this situation. Life should be seen until the end.
I just finished this anime yesterday. And tbh i am not sure how i should feel anymore. The more i think about it the more i get sadder, and smile comes to my face as their melting potato face comes to my head.
I highly recommend reading the manga if you haven't already, if you wanna start where you left off start at vol 30. here's a link mangakakalot.com/read-zo9ht158504962199
I just finished the anime and the manga. When I finished the episode with this song, I came here to listen and read the comments. I accidentally read a spoiler, so I read the manga after the anime, and I somehow managed not to cry at the end. But then I came back to listen to this song, and I broke down, I cried a good cry. This was a great journey for me, and for everyone else who watched the anime. It teaches you to be thankful for what you have, and that it could all be gone in an instant. Be thankful for who’s around you, for everything you’re able to do. That’s the lesson I learned from watching this.
I was afraid this anime would be too dark after seeing reviews of it, and so I avoided it for a long time, since I don't like really dark or sad things. I'm glad I finally watched it. It is optimistic and very human.
This feels strangely relevant now. After only finishing a couple months ago... 'ah, it's great to reflect on loneliness and the end of the world, but that sort of thing won't happen to me...'
Even if it's sad they started a tour and it came to an end, both Chito and Yuuri are now happy in their afterlifes just living with each other, without the need to look for supply or survive the extreme cold. May these two rest in peace and have a fun afterlife.
I'm so annoyed they didn't finish animating it. It would have been like 6 or 7 more episodes. I read the manga after the ending and honestly it was fine to adjust to the medium, even as someone who doesn't read a lot of manga, but I know there's probably a ton of people who wont bother. Shame, because while the ending is sad, it's perfect for the show.
It might actually get a quasi season 2, but the animation company has spent the last few years on other much larger shows like RE:Zero etc. I remember someone said that if RE:Zero season 2 didn't come out, Girls Last Tour season 2 would take its place. But if Made in Abyss is getting a season 2 next year, hopefully Girls Last Tour will as well.
This anime is legit realistic cause we humans can't always stop the apocalypse so moving forward is the only thing we can do even if its sad but it is also beautiful
PLEASE someone post the translation of this song!!! (into english, I mean). I looked all over and all i could find was this rough translation of the first bit, but not the whole song. (i changed a bit of it as it flowed better and was more poetic imo): The world is now moving with every kind of music When I suddenly realized, yeah, it is always repeating... The sound of raindrops, always reverberate until far away It will not end until it reaches the end of the road. I will go anywhere, hand-in-hand with you If someday we reach the end, I hope I can laugh together with you Tonight we couldn't sleep again, so we counted the sounds of raindrops I'm sure when we look up at the night sky, our hearts are connected. And then the sun goes up, the beginning and ending of a day. We are always repeating. Yeah, I'm sure it's just like the music. I think this phrase will keep continuing from now onwards If there's a beginning, an ending will come too. But I think I can still meet you when it comes. Always continuing, the precious moments with you We will not separate no matter what, I always have that feeling Tonight we couldn't sleep again, so we counted the stars in the night sky Even though we knew we couldn't count them all. Unstoppable sound of water dripping, enlarging its ripples. I will go anywhere, hand-in-hand with you If someday we reach the end, I hope I can laugh together with you. Tonight we couldn't sleep again, so we counted the sounds of raindrops I'm sure when we look up at the night sky, our hearts are connected.
Love how the music almost nearly cuts out for a few seconds at 3:20. Such a great anime, such an amazing manga, truly one of the best pieces of media I've ever experienced. Thank you Tsukumizu.
@@jijizeg24 it's about 2 young girls scavenging supplies after a huge war that appears to have wiped out most of humanity. It's one the best shows I've seen so far and I'm very picky. Yes I think it's worth watching. I can't recommend it enough.
@@jijizeg24 the anime is fucking beautiful and I can say that because I'm on my 60'th and it's still one of my favorites. Amadare no uta (song of raindrops) is by far one of the best and most emotional songs in anime I've ever heard and listening to it a year after watching did bring a tear or 2.
@@jijizeg24 Just to add something to Endymion766's explanation. This is not a typical post-apocalyptic, bleak story; in fact the girls find moments of joy in almost every episode - like the sound of rain making music on tin cans, their first taste of beer and dancing in the moonlight. There's a gentle, underlying philosophy about making the best of what they have and what they find, rather than trying to reclaim what's lost. Well worth watching.
Nobody has put the English lyric yet? OK I will, minus the rururu's: This world came alive with all the music If you suddenly notice it, repeat it forever The Rain that has begun to fall echoed far away It will reach the end of the never ending road I'll walk forever, holding your hand So we can laugh together when we arrive, someday I counted the raindrops on a sleepless night And the night sky connected out hearts And the morning sun rises and the day begins and ends I’m sure it will repeat over and over like music I thought this phrase would continue forever If it starts, it will end But I should see you again An important day that will last forever with you Two people seem to be separated I feel like that Again, I will count the stars in the night sky on a sleepless night While knowing that there will be no end to counting The waves of unending sound continued to spread I'll walk forever, holding your hand So we can laugh together when we arrive, someday I counted the raindrops on a sleepless night And the night sky connected out hearts
I just love this anime, its so sas but still so kinda nice to watch. And the manga ending makes you rethink the while story. And of course this song is great, in my opinion they coud use it for the opening.
@@Nikotov3 I'm reluctant to, because I don't wanna spoil it for the people who haven't finished it. But let's just say, even now a month after finishing it, I still feel sad thinking about it.

@@DuffBeer2nd i know one anime OST that has been around since 2018. not one dislike. Maybe just because its less popular, and has only around 1.5k views
It'll be alright. Appreciate the little things and the people around you, they're worth living for. Even as the world feels like it's falling apart around you.
Here I am, trying to get the lyrics with the few Japanese I know, but I caught one piece that fits the series: 始まりあれば終わりも来るさけどまた会えるはずさ Which roughly translates to "if there's a beginning, there will be an ending, but I suppose we will meet again
It sounds like "We'll Meet Again" by Vera Lynn, a song from the WW2 days, I believe. "We'll meet again, Don't know where, Don't know when, But I know we'll meet again some sunny day.."
I won't be the first to point this out, but I urge you all to go and read the manga. It sets the whole anime into its right proportions and a deeply satisfying, yet eerie end.
I don't think many people realise this will be the only song that plays one day, humanities extinction will happen one day, whether we want it or not, tomorrow or millions of years from now, eventually there won't be any of us left and the song the rain makes may well be the only thing left.

I watched the anime and read the manga 2 times, still I can't stop crying over the sad ending in the manga. 😭 May Chi and Yuu be in a better place than on that land. . .😭 All I can say to them is, "See you in the next life, both of you......"😭
I'm crying, this broke me, listening to this way way after finishing the story is killing me, I never had that kind of feeling before, don't do this kids, don't watch this anime then read the manga like I did, just do drugs or whatever it's better.
I-i just want to hug them and give them love 😭 these girl should've have happiness that the world would've provided but instead they have to struggle together. It's a sad ending for a story but if this is real life it would've also been the only option. To end their suffering 😭 these girls are angels to my heart. 😭😭😭
This Anime/Manga really hit me hard, especially after I finished the last chapter. I barely able to sleep, it was 2AM. Until 5AM I finally be able to sleep. Such a weird feeling, really...
Funny how I kept playing the song about everything always repeating until it finally comes to an end on loop for days and days. That's testimony to just how good of a song it is.
At 1st, I was just enjoying the song but after I read the last chapters, I cried like 4 times and this is the 1st time a song made me cry, It gives a joyful vibe when I listened to it 1st, then gave an Ultra Wholesome to the point of depression as soon as i read the manga. When you read it, The entire song's meaning literally changes from happy to depression level sadness.
I wish this anime covered the end of the manga. I would’ve liked to see what music choice they would choose for the final scene. Or if they would even use music.
This anime is definitely the best piece of media I have ever watched and the Manga is the best piece of fiction I have ever read. I didn't like how the anime ended, sure, but the Manga did so much better. One comment here brought up one of the Manga chapters where the girls visit a museum and take a crudely drawn picture they made and hang it up next to a Neanderthal cave painting. "The first and last of man's art" the comment said and that is the beauty in the series. The series never shied away from the idea that Chiito and Yuuri were the last 2 girls on Earth and that every invention ever made, every word ever written, every argument ever fought, and everything else that existed before doesn't matter now, and it won't matter ever again. On the flipside, the series is about these two cheerful girls who don't really understand their situation just trying to have fun and survive and find the happiness in everything. It's two completely conflicting ideas that also work in tandem. The girls view living as it's own reward and as long as they have each other, life is worth living, but the world they live in is depressing and barren and deadly. Throughout the entire series, the girls are trying to reach the top layer. They constantly push through their hardships to get there. They lose everything- their car, their books -but they still have each other, and they push to get a better life for the other one. When they finally reach the top, there's nothing. It's just them, some snow, and the starry sky above. They aren't mad, they don't break down and cry, but they celebrate. They have a snowball fight and talk about how great living is. They reflect and admit how little they know, and that they're most likely the only people on Earth, but they never say that that is a bad thing. They say how nice it is to be together, and how nice it was to live with them. Eventually they tire and eat their last bits of food and fall asleep together. The camera zooms out to show just how small they really are and how barren the world is. "Since this world is too large and complex, various things will pass by still unknown. However, no matter the time, Chito and Yuuri believed that the joy of being alive never dissapears. I drew this believing the same thing, I think... Although it wasn't a great product, thank you for reading all the way here." After reading that, i was extremely sad. The anime meant so much to me and the Manga was so good with an amazing ending. After finishing the Manga, I was too sad to even watch TV, read books, or even play video games. I felt as if nothing would compare to it at all. That feeling lasted for several weeks but I eventually overcame it somehow. I always reflected on the message about life always being worth living and it renewed my love for life. It still feels wrong to watch anime since finishing it, and I still haven't watched any anime, or television in general, since then. I will always love this anime and will always appreciate what it did for me, but I will never be able to watch it again. Im always filled with sadness when listening to any song from it or seeing anything related to the show, but it's a bittersweet kind of sadness. I still believe I will never ever find another show like it or another show as good as it, but that's irrelevant. 0/10 show actually terrible
