I been detecting for over 30 years. I have no clue how you could say there's is a better detector for someone to start with. None. You can't get close for 269.00. This is such a crazy low price for an amazing detector I bough one without blinking an eye. You can't hardly buy a good 12 in coil less than 150.00. I've owned the most expensive machines over the years. Been using the AT-Pro for 12 years, mostly in the water as that's where I spend my summers. I've got about 35 hours on the X-Terra Pro so far with no complains on land or in the water. It's easy to use as just about all machines are these days. Just choose a mode and go. As you learn you can make adjustments. My AT-Pro, which is still a 500.00 machine, was 600.00, has been moved to backup by a 269.00 detector that wouldn't be if not some price wars and competition going on with Notka which started this by bringing out the Simplex at around the same price. Awesome time to be getting started when you can get detectors like this for 269.00. I bought because I don't know how long they will stay at this price. The rant about the headphones. Welcome to water hunting. If your not hunting in water you don't need the waterproof headphones. Any with a 3.5 jack will work and you don't have to worry about leaking. The 3.5 jack is sealed and waterproof inside. You can get earbuds that are waterproof for 50.00 off e-bay. If you water hunt your going to pay about the same for any other brands waterproof headphones because they don't come with waterproof headphones. After buying a 600.00 AT-PRO 12 years ago I had to buy the 130.00 waterproof headphones. There's just no getting around that. It's a heck of a deal to get setup to water hunt. Just over 400.00 for the complete package to water hunt or about 320.00 if you go with the Waterproof earbuds on ebay. You can also buy the waterproof connector from the same guy for 20.00 and put it on any headphones of your choice. Sure glad there's 100's of other X-Terra videos to actually help someone decide if this machine is for them without mis-leading them.

It's irritating when someone is trying to do a review on something that they haven't even taken out into the field and used.. I've had a couple of months with this detector and it's a great machine.. hands down.. best thing to do is go by what actual user's are saying before making a decision on what to buy 👍
@FreeAmericanSpirit

Took it out several times never said it was not a good detector, just said it is not the best. What is irritating is you assume things that are false.

I've been detecting since the 60s. I have beach hunted and dove with just about every water machine made. Mine labe promotes this for the water yet does not have water proof head phones for it. Also not only is the Bluetooth proprietary. Even the wires connection is different so you can't even use Minelab water proof phones from other models like the 600 800 xcal etc etc. In addition I already posted a correction about the capability to update soft ware and pinned it to the top of the comments if you bothered to read them... That then brings me up to the manual, which is 58 pages long. So a newbie has to spend a couple a ton of money on ink and time to down load it. If you watched the video and got out of your (protect Minelab frame of mind) you would have seen I said it is a good detector. But I stand by my 5 plus decades of experience when I say it is not the best detector for a beginner. Apparently you are just like the majority that can't admit when their beloved detector company has made a mistake or hasn't been quite truthful in its marketing

@@FreeAmericanSpirit so, if I wouldn't have known any better, and I would have come across your review that stated that the machine wasn't updatable, and would have believed it to be true.. that being said, I do see it was corrected in a reply.. have a great weekend 👍

@@FreeAmericanSpirit why would I be trying to protect Minelab? All I know is, ever other company is trying to catch up with them and have been for years.. I started with Whites, who by the way is no longer in business, and have been using Mine Lab because they are on the cutting edge of technology.. and as far as the xtp for a beginner, I do agree that it isn't an entry level machine, as a lot of people are referring it to be.. tons of ink for the manual? All I did was download it directly to my smart phone and it took only a few seconds.. and I can refer to it when ever I need to.. and also, there are plenty of videos on RU-vid that shows how to set it up step by step, if someone so chooses 🤷

I stopping detecting back into 2015 because of a knee injury. I started with my journey with the whites XLT used with a Sunray Probe - which I loved except when I forgot to switch back to main probe - any Sunray Prope owner knows what I mean. My next upgrade was a used DFX ( dual Frequency). Ahead of it’s time very complex which is why there where so many books on it. Next up was the the Minelab Safari - really want an Etrac but my pocket book again could not handle it. All three machines where good but had one major problem weight. I would wear out long before the targets did. So my next detector was the Minelab Sovereign GT. This was a tone only machine and only had dials to tube it no screen. This was lighter and because no screen had many options to reduce swing weight. Shortly after I got it a long time golf course in a now iffy part of town was converted to a park. The golf course had been there for over 40 years with zero metal detectors at least in light of day. So many local detector users saw the opportunity - I kept running into this gentleman who used a Fisher CZ3D ( another tone only machine with dials) . He was killing it on Deep silver and I was jealous because I was not as successful. After being exposed to Fisher / Technetics and got interested in F75 and T2 both legionary detectors. I could not decide which one so bought both with intention of keeping my favorite and selling the other. It was during this time I broke my knee by falling of a cliff. Okay now you are wondering why the very long build up. Well to give you some context on my thoughts on the Minelab Xterra Pro. First and foremost for me is weight second for me is being water proof. Add to this being good on the beach (I do believe it is actually a dual frequency machine- 5khz and 15khz - when in beach mode. Three frequencies vibration 100+ discrimination, multiple tone options including depth and like mentioned option to buy equinox coils giving a nice upgrade path. All for less then I paid for any of the detectors listed above and that is prices for used not new. So for some looking at getting back into detecting and on the beach - this is one hard detector to ignore. I would love to hear the reviewers suggestions for a better value because been looking and have not seen one.

Again If you listen to the very first part of the video , I tell people it is a good detector and there is plenty of vids about it. The problems I pointed out are real. Except the update part that I corrected. It has moreso do with Minelab marketing than the machine it self. Anyways then there is the whole value thing which is based soly on price... Yes it has good features and it is cheap. That does not mean it is the best beginner detector. Will have a part two coming out soon to respond to some of the replies from the fan boys and the trolls... If you really want waterproof then you realize without spending a bunch of money on head phones then I am right about the Xterra. If you want the lightest and best for the water (diving). Then get the deus two. Or if not diving too deep get the Manticor.

Hmm,,T2, Ultra, or XTP? Gonna make up my mind in a couple weeks, still leaning towards T2 unless I see Ultra having great ID at depth. Also do not know if these two newer ones have recovery speed of T2. What do you think?
@FreeAmericanSpirit
@FreeAmericanSpirit 10 месяцев назад
T2? The fisher? Isn't that like 600 bucks? If your going that route use my link to destination gold and get the LEGEND that's less costly and far better. Also hard to recommend something to some one because I don't know the type of experience you have, what type of hunts you do or what conditions you want to hunt in. But for beginners, I would go Simplex ultra then the CT pro but if your able just bite the bullet and go Legend.
@markdoehrman5134
@markdoehrman5134 10 месяцев назад
T2 is down to about 250 used, sometime w/ extra coils. I've been detecting about 10 yrs now, mostly older researched sites " residential". G2+ and Teknetiks Eurotek Pro with Mars Tiger coil. I like Threshold on G2, and ID, same with Eurotek great ID down to 10 to 11" mark,,very underrated machine especially because it has no bells or whistles to it,,it doesn't really make sense bet it performed better the Simplex 12 khz, and minelab 540,,actually Garrett 400 performed better than last two just mentioned also. The new Ultra has me intrigued though, at 15 khz, Good depth and ID,,maybe good around EMI, do not know about its all Metal Mode or threshold adjustments on it yet compared to T2 or Garrett At Max. Maybe Legend has all I want? I love seeking out the deep coins, that is why I love the hobby, and I'm not brand loyal. Example, the simex was the deepseeker in my test bed, but out in the wild it loved trash and iron,same with 540,,I actually did better locating those signals with my Quest x10,,kinda miss that little machine,lol. Not to much older coins to find in my area that are super deep. Columbia City Ind est 1850 abts, lot of clay dirt, somewhat mild soil. So yeah maybe Legend would excel really great in my conditions.

Yes! Of course, it's good; it is an entry-level detector. Look at the price and think, is this going to do what a higher price detector will do. I have hunted with friends and found just as many items as, say, Nokta Legend. The beach is good, and the parks are good. You will find what many other detectorists find without any problems. It's also the skill of the user and practice. If you want to dig 15 inches in the sand, no problem. However, there are elements that change the search.

Not so sure its 'a bait'. You don't have to go out and buy Minelab's wireless headphones to use the machine and if you want headphones and you have a budget to stick to then any cheap wired set will work just fine.
@FreeAmericanSpirit
@FreeAmericanSpirit Год назад
Again wireless head phones won't work under water. 1/8 jack will only allow you to work in rivers/lakes)/ ocean up to control box and if you slip and fall you may have problems. Point is minelab decided to use different blue tooth and a completely different connection. Not the best way to introduce newbies to the hobby...

Minelab does get us on buying aftermarket headphones. But i was fully aware of that when i bought the machine. I had already been thru five different machines with 15 years of metal detecting expierence. I used it as my main machine in the water, underwater and on land this summer. Found over 50 rings with it. Over 250$ in clad. 5 gold rings, 3 with diamonds, and a gold cross. And some silver....Apple watch, 7 pair of sunglasses, with a brand new pair of Oakleys that i wear now. Always wanted a pair of Oakleys. Now i dont have to buy one. Best machine i ever used.

@@charlesoutdoors2424 quick start is nothing. If I'm out in the field I want a manual. Why would I drive all the way home and then search for RU-vid videos when I could look up the answer in five 2 minutes? Do you really think new people can watch a couple videos and then remember all that information when they go to use it? It's pretty distracting for a new person when they are out in the field and the machine doesn't do what they expect because someone said only told them the over hyped good points and never told them the real down side .. Detector companies have done this since the beginning. How mad bad magazine reviews have you read? How many bad YT reviews have you seen? About the only time you see any real negative comments is on the forums, but new people are not going to spend days searching a forum for problems. Remember when the Xterra 705 came out. Nothing but great reviews.. it really was not that good. Remember when whites Liberty came out? Probably one of the top three all time worst detectors... Nothing but good reviews, it took about a year before people started openly saying how bad it is. I have had several mine labs that I just loved.. The sovereign, the Excalibur, Etrac etc. So I am a big Minelab fan, but I'm not going to dismiss problems just because I like them.. I am not married to the brand. I love my deus two as well but I'm about to upset those fanboys too..
