I believe that Coach Bednar will be able to make a good decision on our goaltending. The Avalanche have two very good goaltenders that allows Coach Bednar the ability to use them as needed. The payoffs are a different season that does not require wild guessing on inexperienced payoff goaltenders. Let Coach Bednar make the choices and I think AVS Nation will be very happy and the team will do well. LETS GO AVS! Steve
Alexandar Georgiev was ranked 8th best in the NHL recently. It wasn’t that long ago people were saying he was the second best goalie the Avalanche has had. No one can beat the legend Patrick Roy. Justus Annunen looks promising, but i it’s too early. You’ve definitely got to go with Georgiev for now! We are playing Dallas tonight at 8:00. Big game maybe for the division title. Game on! Maybe I should go?
both georgie and the defense need to step it up. doesn't matter how good georgie plays if they are just leaving people unchecked on back door plays, refusing to clear rebounds or never tying up players in front of the net.
That’s actually a great point. I completely forgot about our back to back in Edmonton. I just figured since Juice played the last game and 1/2 Bednar might go with Georgiev, but he might let Georgie go against the Oilers
Something that doesn't get brought up in this conversation is how inconsistent our D has been in our end. We have one of the best offensive D in the league, but we often suffer in our own zone because of it. The number of times I hear people say Georgie sucks because of X goal, which was a 2vgeorgie caused by a sloppy lazy pass is super high this season. No arguments about the preds game, but the season in general, people put a lot of the Defense's failures on him
Annunen is solid. I've been following him for a long time and it's great to see him starting to get some solid time in net. Some pretty high pressure games, but playoffs are a different animal, we will see how he handles that unique pressure as needed, but Georgie would be the smart bet. If Annunen takes over for Francouz as backup I think it will be interesting to see how good he really is over the course of a full season. He's solid for the Eagles, and the AHL is nothing to sneeze at, but still a totally different level. If I was a betting man I would say Annunen is kept around until Francouz is in good health, dropped back down to the Eagles, and left until he is needed as a replacement or until Francouz is off the roster unless Annunen pulls off some really wild stuff in the playoffs if he is called in. Francouz really pulled through when the Avs needed him last year, and they won't forget it.
Francouz has basically said that he’s retiring. His contract is up after this year and the Avs aren’t going to re-up so he’s done with us. Annunen is going to be full time with the Avs, it’s just whether he’ll be the starter or backup
@@Co_avsnation I didn't hear about Francouz retiring, that makes it a pretty simple choice for the Avs. I think they'll still keep Georgie as their starter as Annunen develops more as a backup in the big leagues.
ppl complain and say he never faced any good teams , well i thought he should be playing vs the jets and oilers and minni but georgie got the minni start
Georgiev is better than Kuemper, and if we can win it all with Darcy, we can with Georgie. The key is the horrendous defense this season. I don't remember Kuemper being under siege with such bad defensive breakdowns in the '21-'22 season. In my opinion, Georgiev needs more support from the defense. Once they fix it, he can regain his confidence. He's a talented goalie. And for his cap hit, we as fans shouldn't have him under a microscope like he currently is. Considering his cap hit of $3.4 AAV, Georgiev is a solid goaltender.
Couldn't agree more. He's a very solid goaltender. Much better than Kuemper. Not quite as sharp as last year, but it goes back to the defense hanging him out to dry so often. That frustration has resulted in decline in his sharp focus, which when on, is Venzina caliber. There's a reason why analysts picked him as Venzina candidate. Yet, so many people only see the superficial GAA and SV% stats. He's still a young goaltender and only his 2nd full season. He just needs to learn to let that frustration go as to not affect his sharp focus. Once the Avs key in on better solid performance for the playoffs, that will help him get back to his form as well. And that's gonna be scary for any teams facing Avs.
I agree Why goalie fails and let goal in is that all of field players have failed first. First to fail are forwards. Why they did not have puck on offensive end? Then it is about defense. Why they did let opponent offence have a puck. After all as Colorado is really offensive team there will be not so good defense. There will be bad decisions on defense as also defense attack. I like it. it much more entertaining that watch more defense concern team.
I dont think the D has been that bad. The issue is that our D is scoring a lot of points and they are doing it from up top. This causes the opponents to play much further out from the net. And what we keep seeing is the puck getting trapped in the upper corners, and when they try to salvage the possession they cough up the puck with a fumble or a good poke and then we give up a breakaway or a two on one. The offensive aggression of our D comes with a very real negative but they are only playing this style because of confidence in the net miner.
All i say is that even though georgiev had tough games and those shots aren't his fault, he still needs to come out making big saves and hasn't if he does terrible come playoff time and terrible in a game of the playoffs definitely give the starting position to justus annunen give him some of these big teams to help his development of what top tier teams look like and a taste of what a playoff team is
Keep him as the starter, the Avs give up so many slot chances when Georgievs in net, its not his fault. He did get exposed high blocker against Nashville though.
He is a decent goalie. He is not a goalie who steals games, but the Avs are also not a defensive team, they are an offensive team. I. This team it doesnt matter if you have Georgiev, Kuemper, or the God King Patrick Roy
Watching his glove play against edmonton, he needs a rest or something. He has so much issue with rebounding off the glove knockdown instead of catching the puck. Hes decent, but if he cant control the rebounds in front the avs are toast.
I tend to mostly agree with your points, except that it's important to note that Georgiev is in the net against much higher tier team such as the Canucks, therefore leading to him facing just a better offense overall, whereas Annunen has played teams much lower in the standings. I do think Annunen is good, but I think the stats alone are a bit misleading. If Annunen was playing some of those higher teams I'm not so sure he would have performed as well as Georgiev
I think that he should remain starter and take a break till April 5 vs Edmonton but he needs to get control of his anger we can’t take unnecessary penalties because he does dumb shit like that again
Its very easy to say get a great goalie, but its not easy to do. Franchise goalies are very rare and they are not just simply available at random trade deadlines
7 regular season games left??? You can't do that to Georgiev...he's marginally better than Annunen (who looks pretty good) but switching now would harm Georgie more than elevate Annunen...a deep PO run is going to require both.
No, idc hes our starter and changing starters 6 games before playoffs would NOT be a good thing, i like Annunen but i don't trust that hes ready for the playoffs we all have to remember the playoffs are a different level then the regular season Georgiev has playoff experience and Annunen don't. now i will gladly eat my words if Annunen takes over and we win the cup with him but right now Georgiev is the starter until he has proven hes not
There's a lot of people that disagree. And I think I'm one of them. I don't think "playoff experience" is even a real thing. Put the hot glove in the net. End of story.
@@JordanHarris I respect the opinion if you think Annunen is gonna back stop us against 4 of the NHLs top 16 teams for 16 wins thats understandable and i also think he probably can especially if our defense is top notch all the way through I just don't think its likely. To say "playoff experience isn't a real thing" is just daff, I can almost guarantee that a team like Vancouver is gonna strike out in the first 2 rounds because they don't have that playoff experience. You can go in hot for sure but if you don't have that experience, of you don't know what it's like to play in environment your likely going to get killed. Can it happen? Yeah that's what miracle runs are. But it's not common id take experience over hot hands in a heartbeat because again the playoffs are a different animal, you can be hot in the regular season and get your ass kicked in the playoffs.
