The lady that was killed by her dogs never walked them and kept them in a cage. All that energy had to go somewhere Why was she given the right to keep them ?

I feel more afraid of the XL bullying dog owner....her aggressiveness says a lot.

Trainers will always think of themself as experts until bad things happen. The law should hold owners responsible for their dogs as if the damages are caused by the owners.

Growing up my parents bred pitbulls, johnson and standard american bullies, one of which set the absolute standard for the best temperament test in the uk and ireland, meanwhile another which was raised in the exact same manner in the same house was like a loaded gun. Sometimes it is nurture over nature and we cant keep brushing it off by putting the blame on "bad owners". I wouldn't even stand in the same room as an XL.

I don't own a xl bully but these poor dogs are the victims of humans , why on earth doesn't the government do something sensible like introducing a breeding licence and the dog your going to breed or cross breed needs to be agreed , that would stop the breeding these very large dogs that are too strong to handle , I love dogs and I love cats but I don't walk around with a lion, we need to take a good long look at ourselves it's awful what we have done to these totally innocent dogs , a bit of common sense is needed

Not only did she fail to defend the XL bullies, but she also made an argument that all dogs should be banned, and I ironically agree with her with that point, but with more reasons. Potentially, their saliva contains sepsis and can enter through the bloodstream whether through the mouth, eyes, or open wound by just licking a person's face or by biting an individual, which would make them lose a limb or die instantly a week(s) after. It gives 'all dogs can bite' phrase a darker meaning.

It's difficult, in my opinion, different breeds of dog have different difficulty of care to look after and be responsible for, xl bullies are very high responsibility level, unfortunately there are few people who have the time and strength of personality to properly care for them

Any breed that is capable of turning on their owner is a danger to kids. It only takes a second or one bite to do quite a lot of damage never mind a sustained attack.

There’s an unmuzzled XL bully near my house. When it saw my puppy it tried to LUNGE for her, showing its teeth and would have killed her if the owner didn’t have a grip on it. Those things shouldn’t be pets. People who own them look exactly how you would imagine them to… overweight, chavvy and poor.

I have a work colleague has one and 5 children , it’s the biggest baby in the house loving affection and loves nothing more than a belly rub , never been in a cage , kids climb all over it , the results , is because , in a loving , adored household

All that talk of the dog is only as aggressive as the owner and its the owners fault etc etc My neighbour has an xl bully and he isn't aggressive or treats the dog bad but the dog still jumped up at our fence and bit my partners hand

Funny, the only one to represent themselves well here was the dog.

DEFRA are refusing to acknowledge receipt of proof of neutering and warning our dogs will be ceased if proof has not been given. We sent it in by registered mail, we know they got it, but they refuse to acknowledge receipt. My wife is in tears again. I believe all dogs should be registered, all breeders licensed, and all owners vetted for ANY dog. Only that will help solve the issue of why some dogs become dangerous.

These dogs were created in Victorian England to fight other dogs in pits, that is the true origin of ALL bull terriers, they continued to be bred for fighting in America and became Pit Bull Terriers and then they were bred for increased size to create "Bullies". For tens of generations the breeders would discard the docile bull terriers and only breed the fighting champions that were the most game and ferocious. The resulting genetic predisposition for aggression and the physical capability to cause havoc and death is now inherent in these dogs and no amount of training can get rid of it. The small British variation the Staffordshire bull terrier was the previous reigning champion of dog attack statistics/deaths before the "Bully" took over.

I don't own an XL Bully, but I'm a huge fan of the breed. They're like the teddy bears of the dog world-big, cuddly, and incredibly sweet when raised in a loving family that has dog experience. The real problem is that many of these dogs were not properly trained by their owners, or have been used as status symbols, mistreated, or even forced to be aggressive. It's all about the owners. These powerful dogs can either be your most loyal companion or a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands. This applies to any dog breed. Heck, in the wrong hands, even a Chihuahua can be a menace. My neighbor has a jack russle and any time it sees my xl it snaps at him for no reason my dog wears a muzzle and doesn’t bother with it even after it snaps at him

Jack Russell's can and HAVE maimed and killed young children. Talking about these breeds nipping and doing no damage. ANY dog can do damage if they want to, regardless of their size.

How many other attacks was there and what other breeds was responsible, if you are only going to report when a xl bully does something, we are not getting the full picture on true bite rates in dog breeds. Lets see a interview with a few charts to show what breeds have the highest bite rate ? Back up your statements GMB.

All the debates get so close to the largest portion of the issue. It isn't the breed, it isn't even the people who buy them as status symbols, it's the owners who have no education in dogs. People buy them because they're cute and/or readily available but they don't know anything about dog body language, dog politics, effective training and they baby their dogs. It's the same issue with misbehaving -oodle/-poo mixes Don't get me wrong I absolutely spoil my dog rotten but I also don't lose sight of him being an adult of a totally different species. When my dog reacts to other dogs (he's a staffy) I don't pet him to "reassure him", because what you pet is what you get and that encourages the behaviour, I don't punish him because then he associates dogs with pain which will make him worse. What I do is create space between him and the other dog and when he can calm down and focus on me, I reward that. Over time his reaction radius has become much smaller. And for all that I have a great bond with my dog, he still growls at me, why? Because I let him; I enjoy cuddles and smooches and so does he 90% of the time but if he's giving me signs he's not into it (such as side eye, moving away etc) and I ignore that, or if I'm handling his paws (which he hates) he will growl and that tells me he's reaching his limit of tolerating my BS and I have to respect that, same way I would expect someone to respect my need for space if I'm having an off day.

I actually think Mike Parry speaks a lot of sense on numerous issues, but he knows nothing about dogs so why have him debating this subject? He said himself he was reading up on it the night before so he has no idea. GMB are always having these last minute debates which are far too short to achieve anything and usually end up as frustrated shouting matches.
