As evangelical Christians, we all assign various weights and measures to come to a decision on whether or not we can vote for Trump. What makes up those weights and measures for you? Why do you ascribe more weight to some topics and less to others?
Join Fortis Institute Fellows Todd Friel and Dr. Andrew Walker along with Dr. Tom Buck as they break down key issues surrounding the upcoming election and guide you toward making the most biblically informed choice when you head to the polls.
Wretched TV and Radio are hosted by Todd Friel. On the show, you will see and hear live witnessing encounters, discussions of tough theological issues, and Christian commentary on current events. We might even make you laugh.

Wrong question, should be "Should Christians allow Kamala to win?"
@Ironica82
@Ironica82 15 часов назад
Nah, the real question is, since this country is already under God's judgement and is about to fall, shouldn't we stop getting so worked up with who is the president and focus more on local/state elections?

@@Ironica82how do you know that our resolve is not being tested? You do not know the mind of God. You do not know his plans or ways. None of us do. We should prepare for our people to be strong and to stand up for our faith, family, and country. Just because others don’t see a bright future, does not mean that we should lose faith in how and when God will pass judgement on all of us. I almost died of Covid pneumonia in 2021. The world said I was supposed to die, according to the odds. Not only did I live and completely recover after being on life support, but God has let me see my children buy their homes, get married, and thrive. Never give up faith. Never turn your back on hope. No one knows Gods timing. A vote for Trump is hope for our future. Harris’ lack of humanity is dangerous for our country.

@@joshuahawley2073 So, when there are no legitimate Christian candidates running that have a prayer of winning more than a fraction of 1% of the vote, our best option is to sit it out? Look, I don’t agree with those who seemingly worship Trump or see him as messianic, but his policies and public statements backed by his public actions during his first term were far more Christian friendly than any of the democrat Presidents of my lifetime and I’m pushing 70 and that includes Jimmy Carter. We vote for policies not personalities and Trump’s policies, while not perfect, at least reflect cultural Christianity. To vote otherwise or sit the election out is to endorse the evil of the democrat party whether you mean to or not. And it while it is true that GOD puts leaders in place to advance HIS will, to ignore our responsibility and freedom to vote for the candidate of our choice is not, in my opinion, an example of faith but rather presumption.

Now I am wondering if they are even saved! And they think because I believe in grace that I must live in debauchery. 🤣 I love Jesus so much. This mindset legitimizes flawed leadership and undermines our responsibility to demand integrity and true representation. Congratulations for even bringing up Jan 6. Most Trump supporters have conveniently forgotten that day. Walker's argument first is minimize Trump's involvement and then to excuse it by essentially saying the Democrats do the same sort of thing. But let me ask this. If Benedict Arnold somehow came to be the Republican candidate and he claimed to be on the evangelical side of all the issues, pro-life, anti-gay, etc. would you vote for him? My answer is absolutely no. To vote for Arnold would be to approve of treachery, to approve promise breaking, to approve of deceit. And as Mr. Walker has demonstrated, it changes the moral character of Trump's supporters because they will fold, mutilate and spindle the truth until it exonerates Trump.

I do understand that the republican need a different leader but it is not Trump and that has been the failure. So instead of defending Trump, I think it is good to emphasize the principles the republic party is governed by to help Christians understand the consequence of their vote. At the same time, it is also important the failure of republic party, one of which is being led by Trump. On the Abortion issue I do not believe its a federal issue that the reason Roe Vs Wade was overturned was because it was unconstitutional from the beginning. 5 Supreme Court justices do not get the right to make law and determine so broadly for all 50 states the limits and regulations for Abortion. We always knew if the glorious day came that Roe was thrown out it would be tossed back to the states where it should had been all along. Is that not what we wanted? I am confused about how some now basicly want Trump or whoever to push for federal law on Abortion an all out ban on Abortion for all 50 states exactly what democrats are trying to do only to the other extreme end Abortion up to 9 months and beyond. But are we not playing into democrats hand that we now want to force an all out ban on Abortion for all 50 states? How is that any different than 5 justices unconstitutionally deciding for all 50states Roe. Was not the point we been making for 50something yrs was to overthrow Roe as unconstitutional moving it back to the states? Is that not what we wanted? Trump at first if elected wanted to come up with a common ground Abortion Bill to pass going off the Dobbs decision as federal law that Mike Pence was a fan of the Dobbs decision and believes its the more popular decision among Pro-Life movement. Senator Graham was pushing Trump to federalize the Dobs decision. But that was unpopular among Republicans because there was a split in the senate that atleast half or more of senate Republicans believed it should remain a state issue not a federal issue. So basicly Trump would come no where close to the votes he would need to federalize limits on Abortion as most believed in the senate it should remain a state issue. So it was senate Republicans that got Trump to change his mind to go with the issue should remain at the state level not the federal level because he did not have no where near the votes. Its the same with Harris. She knows she does not have the votes in congress or the senate to pass an extreme Abortion law bill. Trump called her out in the debate that she knows she does not have the votes. She is just playing politics with the issue. That is why the democrats want to pack out the Supreme Court so they can put leftist activist on the Supreme Court that will have the "votes" to AGAIN use the courts to reinstate Roe only a more extreme version of Roe among other leftist issues.

I find it interesting how many Christians get hung up on the moral character of the candidates and in some cases refuse to vote unless the candidates are blameless morally. The kicker is we always have two possible/probable candidates and most of the time neither are as upstanding or morally righteous as all of us agree they should be. Regardless, voting isn't necessarily an affirmation of somebody's character, but more of a simple act of choosing the best option on the table. Currently, both of these candidates have widely reported (although unproven) moral failures, especially with respect to sexuality. Neither of them seem to fit the bill of being "after God's own heart" as the Bible wrote about David. However, when everything is taken into consideration including policies and past history, one of these options appears to be able to provide a better environment for the gospel to be preached than the other and these things seem to indicate the better option to be the former president

There are in my mind 2 ways to think about how leaders are selected. In the past, pre US, leaders would rise and fall on their own Hubris, through their own actions, and the actions of those they bring together. In other words a certain type of human with certain characteristics comes to the forefront The other type, the other way, is when God selects that person for a reason, as he did for Nebuchadnezzar to use Babylon to bring judgment to Judah. With the introduction of popular election (note I didn't say democracy or republic), the general citizenry now has the final say as a conglomerate. In this situation I see 2 things. 1. The world is governed by its passions, and desires and chooses whoever for whatever arbitrary and non christ centered reasons it may do so. 2. The Church which has Christ as its head, is not given divine verbal word from the Almighty on who to vote for. We are asked to speak charitably, to be charitable, loving, as a prerequisite for attaining wisdom, and it is that wisdom that Christians MUST use when they choose whom to vote for. Among it is a consideration of the Gospel, which candidate if elected will put the best situation for the furtherance of the Gospel, which will make it harder or bring persecution. Furthermore, because of regionalism, tribalism, or some other idea that divides us that exists outside of the bible, we need to remember to Love our enemies as our self, to pray for them whomever is elected, but ultimately, We each must weigh our conscience here. When we vote for a candidate that's in favor of radical changes to our society, to people's bodies, to silencing Christians, and censoring even those in the world that call out the debauchery of the world, are we not furthering Satan's kingdom in doing so? Jesus was brought a woman accused of adultery, did he judge her publicly when no witness would convict her? (Who would that witness have been? The men?) 1 by 1 each of the pharisees/Sadducees after being asked for he without this sin cast the first stone, knew not just their own sin, but knew that they were not sinless (and maybe not innocent of her claimed sin) I hear a lot about Trump's temper, and past sinfulness, he claims to be Christian, but he comes off as a babe in Christ. On the other hand Harris, seems more interested in herself and promoting herself, and a select subset of society at the expense of life giving aid to people who are in dire need after a natural disaster. If Trump seems greedy, and Harris is self centered, how do you pick between these two? Well some are deciding not to vote, but I tell you, your lack of a vote is a vote in favor of whomever wins, and you will shoulder that burden for the next 4 years rightly or wrongly. The time to choose a third way is earlier, by finding someone else to run against both parties, but not even enough came out to support Kennedy. So I ask you, if God let's you live in a country where you get to use the wisdom HE provides to make choices at the ballot box individually, why is choosing to make no choice actually better folks?

@MrPokoloco
@MrPokoloco 12 часов назад
That’s not how culpability works. Guilt by association in all court cases is when you are directly involved with the guilty party (often by choice). Let’s say I was present for a murder, but said nothing about it…that’s guilt by association. However, let’s turn the logic you used on its head: I payed a man who murdered another man and I didn’t know or understand or be directly involved with that action. He used the money for murder, so I’m guilty for murder or conspiring? No. The guy used false pretense to use money for an illicit purpose I had no knowledge about. Nor did I intend it. Once we pay the government, it’s now the government’s responsibility what happens to the money, not the payer. In fact, in a different way, it’s a form of coercion from the government where they used my money meant for paying for goods and services that actually benefit us for evil purposes. The evil is upon their shoulders, not mine. I am forced to do something that I do not wish to happen.

New Testament, Jesus was not political. He was here to complete a mission and did so. Regarding government, He said to render to ceaser that belongs to ceaser. Therefore I pay my taxes and obey the law. No one can justify voting for either. Repubicans are a party that is money driven, and doesn't have empathy for their fellow human beings. Learn to vote for those who will allow us to continue to openly share Christ and worship. I would say the most important weight system is some one's ego. Their concern that a President is cordial - Sorry, but Jesus was not cordial to the Pharisees and Sadducees. Nether was John the Baptist. Nether was the Apostle Paul in his letters to the Galatians. But for some reason if you are a Christian and not cordial, then you must be sinning according to those who think being cordial is and end all be all for Christians. Sorry to disturb your fantasy land - but being cordial for the wrong reasons is Sin. As the Apostle Paul said, if someone is living in open sin in the church, you are Not to be cordial to them, you are to throw them out of the church. To think that if we do not have the perfect Politian running for president then, you can not vote for them - might I remind you that the bible teaches that we are All sinners, and you are No exception even if you are a Christian. In this life you will still sin. Saying well, their sins are greater than mine? really? did you not learn anything from Luke 18: 9-14 "9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ 13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ 14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Are we to support anything that goes against the word of God? We shouldn't endorse anything or anyone who is an unrepentant individual willing to inflict hurt on others. @josephpratt9396 of course not. But seriously, is actively allowing/furthering abject evil and terribleness in the world a "Christian value" now? I don't think saying "who cares if AH gets elected and unalives all the Israelites, let it happen, Christ works all things together for good." (Taken to extreme to prove a point) makes any sense whatsoever from a Christian perspective.
