Hi Nigel, I appreciate your clarification of several points during the games we enjoy, now obviously you will accept that we the totally not trained and in some cases not even players are all experts and referee games so much better than the refs selected!!. Given that as a starting gambit and in all seriousness can I ask for your opinion on the standard of world referees, I dont expect you to be critical or contentious but I would like your opinion. The South African referees seem a bit off and the French refs are worryingly inconsistent a bit like the French team! you never know quite which version is going to turn up. The English refs seem to be of a much higher standard and communicate really well. Messrs Barnes and Carley and indeed Pierce stand out as did Ben Whitehouse, who is also excellent . I am fairly confident England won't get to the final which opens the door to an English ref doing the final but the TMO's seem a bit inconsistent as well. This must be so frustrating to the players. I appreciate it is a difficult question to answer diplomatically but you're good at that.. Thanks

Although still enjoyable, it feels like where previously Whistle Watch addressed everything head on, now, some of the most controversial decisions (or non-decisions in the case of Dan Sheehan being pushed) are replaced by ads for French tourism.

Why would the scrum be taken from the place the ball hits the spider cam and not from where the kick was taken? Wouldn't it be advantageous for the attacking team if you take the scrum from the place the ball hits the spider cam?

Nigel would love to know your thoughts about the high hand off against Penaud in the last game against Italy, where Penaud basically stops playing and tells the ref it was high, as if his call is what made the ref blow the whistle.

If a player reports to an official that they were punched in the face 3x (as with Billy Vunipola vs Samoa) should the referee investigate such aligations? Only, during the England vs Samoa match, when Mr Vunipola tried to inform the ref, he was instead threatened with a yellow card and the incident was never even reviewed. I'm not a rugby referee, and I understand the importance of respecting the referee, but that doesn't seem fair & punching people in the face multiple times during a confrontation should be penalised to show that sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.
