I've wanted a tractor since I started homesteading but they are so expensive I haven't been able to justify the expense...until now. The right opportunity to get a 1986 John Deere 750 compact tractor has presented itself.
This is the tractor we searched for. One of the benefits was it was common, do lots of attachments around and they were cheap. Simple just means less to break, easier to fix. Buy it. It's like buying a super power to get a tractor. 🙂
I was checking on prices on selling my Jd750 tractor. The tractor has been a joy ,but it's too small for what I need . We have had it since my dad bought it new back in the 80s. It has a real strong diesel engine and starts up in the winter with no problem. Has all kinds of attachments including a woods back hoe. Amazing machine. Hate to see it go but again too small for my 100+ acre homestead that I just bought.
You better have that already at the homestead and just waiting to show us the delivery on your next video. We had a similar mentor/neighbor offer to sell us their tractor at a great discount. I didn't want to because funds were tight. My wife said we really should do it. I am glad I listened to her. It has been a GREAT blessing. Enjoy!
Yay for me! Your buying from a friend so no hidden surprises. I think it's perfect for all the jobs on your homestead. Even if it's not new it's going to change things for the better and should last you the next 10+ years.
Yay! Looks like a great deal. Anytime your buying used consider that things can still go wrong, but the age and history are so important that this is a great deal at most prices even if a bit high. I’d go for it.
Yay on the tractor! Wooohoooo!!! This is going to help a lot! My son in law works on and refurbishes older model tractors. I love to see them get a new lease on life. Yours is a dandy! Well done you!
Of course you should get it! 👍🏼 This is the exact tractor that my Dad used forever. He kept it and used it even when he bought other tractors/equipment. Congratulations in advance!
Yes. What are you even waiting for. Great small tractor. I have a JD4110 and love it. You can do quite a bit of digging with the bucket also. You can buy/make a trenching attachment to replace the bucket also. Try to eventually get a quick hitch attachment.
I just bought an 1985 John Deere 650 4x4 with a 67 Front End Loader and the original 40 box scraper with the original Scarifiers . it was a barn find husband passed and the tractor sat for 5 years. It did not run, I bought it for $3500. After a new starter & battery , flush out the diesel tank and float bowl with new fuel filter, bleed the fuel lines and it started right up. i did a full service including new front tires. This tractor is amazing I feel that I stole it for the price now, feel it is worth $6,500 but only a guess. The tractor that I hope you bought is a little bigger , a 3 cylinder with 4 more hp that mine & turn key you will never regret it and it will only be a collectors item in the future
I bought my 750 in 2020 at the start of the pandemic. Bucket loader, York Rake, Back hoe and 6', 3 point mower. Spent $11k. Was the best move I made. It works great and it helped me survive 2020-2021.
Dan , you already know it is a good deal and that it would be helpful for your property and work advancement! It’s so great that the owner thought of you first! “Should you buy this tractor.” Duh!!!
Oh Heck YES! Owning many John Deere tractors I have never been disappointed. It will hold up to its value. Treat it well and it will treat you well too. Enjoy.
I hope You bought the tractor !!! It will be the most work saving piece of equipment you can own . I have a 1984 JD 750 and it is still going strong . the biggest thing is regular maintenance and it will last a lifetime Good luck Ken
I think you should get the tractor. It will help motivate you to take on those bigger tasks that need to be done but seem very overwhelming to do alone. And it sounds like an incredible deal even if it needed some work.
Can't go wrong with a tractor especially a John Deere 💪. I would love the hands on! She's a beautiful lady inside and out! What you guys are doing is so admirable and SMART. 🙏♥️💪
It seems like there are a lot of folks moving into the area ... my guess is that you could rent you and your tractor out for driveway planing, driveway snow removal, moving material like chips or driveway rock, and maybe even some dirt moving. Just a periodic side gig enabling you to out a little extra on your mortgages principle, put some progress on your workshop, do a house maintenance or upgrade project, etc...
That is in FANSTASTIC shape. A lot of parts for it are discontinued so if you do need to do any major fixes, you may have to find a salvaged tractor to pull parts from. I bought one with 4200 hours on it but it was no where near as in good shape as that one. Found mine at auction and got a "deal" but it's always more expensive than you think it will be. Good luck!
Yes buy it . You know the history and trust the seller . Much better than buying from a stranger. It will simplify the work for you so much . Congratulations on a great opportunity.
Tess & Rolf are making you a very kind & very special deal because of your relationship & because they want to help, you know you can trust that they've kept up the maintenance well on the Tractor & can help you iron out any quirks or issues common to older machinery as you begin learning how to use it. I can't imagine any way you'll ever get a better deal for what you need & the Spirit it's being offered in is priceless in & of itself.....Go for it Dan, you'll never regret getting a Deere, it'll serve you very well for many years to come & will likely be lively enough to be able to be passed on to help someone else getting started once you're ready & able to move on to something newer or bigger or more specialized to your own growing needs later on.
Go for it This can make your time so much more effective, it'll earn back its costs And it's always good to make use of the unique situation where you can buy equipment from someone you know and respect, knowing how it was treated and handled. That knowledge brings the worth of the tractor up to the high end of the spectrum
I owned one very similar to this one in 1995, which I bought used. Great little tractors, and they certainly hold their value. I paid less than 10k for used one, with belly mower, that may have been newer than 1986, in 1995. You will use it!
Absolutely, BUY IT! Hahahaha! This tractor will be a blessing to you on your homestead making most of the chores you do so much easier! And you won't be able to find a better deal for a better quality used tractor. Tess is such a wonderful blessing to you!
I've seen a bunch of good things about that deer series. 650, 750 and 950s. Good size as well. We went with a 1025r and it's been a game changer. Attachments are where it gets $$. Box blade, brush hog, and rake.
This is an excellent tractor. I have a John Deere 850. Mine is a 1978 first year of this series. Love mine. It’s much more heavy duty than the new compact tractors.
Looks like an all-around great for many types of jobs tractor. The owners look like good honest people who take care of their equipment. If the price is right for your wallet I say ''Go for it!
Should you get it? Haha, my guess is you already did. What a great deal. You’re going to love it. We were up there a few weeks ago, would have been fun to see you again.
@@TheGrassfedHomestead we did visit with them for dinner one night but we were there to look at property. Deal fell through though and we have put another offer in this morning that got outbid. Prices are CRAZY in your beautiful part of the country. We'll let you know next time we come through. Merry Christmas
They're some of the most reliable tractors ever built. I have the Deere 1050 TLB. Shes a mean machine, so long as I warm her up real good before I get up an ride her hard.
My uncle just sold me his John Deere 750 that is four wheel drive and has the 67 front end loader on it for $800. It could use some new front tires and it does have a slow hydraulic fluid leak in the rear, but it starts right up and it all works. I’m in south Texas and only have 2 acres so I think this tractor is the perfect size for me!
I saw a guy load my truck with 20 logs with his Kubota. Amazing. Now I'm dreaming about a little tractor. You could also no till cash crops and cover crops with it. That's something I'd love to do.
I say go for it, it's perfect for you 👍🐦. That's so nice of Tess to put you first 🙌. Tractor ✅ ENJOY 😊. Merry Christmas 🎄 to You and Little Buddy 💝 JO JO IN VT 💕😄
If I lived reasonably close to Idaho I would sign up for the workshops in a heartbeat. Even though I'm in NJ, I still want to find a way. Now, the tractor. Seems like an answer to your tractor dilemma. Go for it
Your question is. Should we buy this tractor? That all depends on what you'll be primarily using it for. If you have wide open spaces and you'll be tilling or brush hogging in 1 direction for long periods of time then its a good choice. But those transmissions are not great for doing lots of loader work or changing directions a lot. Or in tight areas. Just my opinion. If you do a lot of loader work or change directions a lot let me know how it's working out for you. Nice tractor though. I just inherited 1 and won't be using it much because all I do is loader work and brush hogging and changing direction constantly.
20HP is on the smaller end of what I would consider for a farm tractor, but it will still do so many things for you tht you will wonder how you ever got by without it. It looks really well maintained and it's from one of the big manufacturers, so it should be a reliable unit. I say go for it, but realise that it will be limited by it's size as far as lifting capacity and how quick you'll mow through those heavy weeds.
@@TheGrassfedHomestead absolutely. It'll be an incredible help and allow you to do more than you can with just manpower, I just wanted to point out that it will be limited in muscle power is all. I still say go for it.
I think you should get it. You know Tess and her husband take good care of their machinery and animals. I don't think they'd even consider selling it to you if they thought it would give you problems. If you ever have questions about the tractor, they know everything about it and could answer easily. DO IT!
My suspicion is that you are getting a friend's and family discount and this is a deal of a life time. You know best if you have confidence in the repairs, maintenance, and condition; from utube, it seems as if its been well cared for. Plus, my suspicion is that you can get maintenance, repair, and attachment mentoring for the asking. As a person farming while co-parenting a child, working to bring income I to the farm, limited time, and somuch more a tractor seems like a valuable addition. I suspect that the lack of a tractor has hindered your development of the homestead.
No brainer... BUY IT.. you will not regret it. The older diesels do not have all the electronic junk the new ones do so they are far simpler to fix and run. Enjoy.
If you need it , then go for it and get it , it looks clean on the outside , I mean Tes and her husband didn't abuse it just remember that in the future no round hay bales , just the square ones and I think you know why it's a go to start with
so what did you wind up giving for the 750 , even if you bought it ? at the price of egg's might be abel to swap tractor for your chicken collection and some other stuff LOL
Consider a apprentice or internship. I'm sure you could usesome help. Perhaps contact Joel Salatin how he runs his training program. I'm saying this to her. To you . Get the tractor.
