I have an explore air 2 and I plan to keep it for a long time! I don't plan to upgrade any time soon. If I were to upgrade tho I'd probably go with the original maker.
I have the maker and have no plans to upgrade. The mattress or faster cutting is not an important enough to me for my particular use. Thank you for the video. P.S. My wife got me mine at Costco here in Canada. It was a gift but it came with lots of extras.
Yesterday, watching Rachel's video I was really wanting to upgrade, but NOW watching this video , I think I'm pretty content with my original maker. Yes, Maker 3 has neat abilities and upgrades, but not so many that I gotta have it. Thank you for this video Tanner. 😊
I got my Maker last year and at first was frustrated to hear a new one was coming out so soon after I bought it.. but honestly there is nothing really calling to me about the maker 3. The original maker is a great machine and I bought mine as a bundle with a ton of stuff. I’m glad they look similar because I do like to be up to date with the latest tech when possible and at a glance they are almost identical looking. I have no plans to upgrade and I can see their marketing strategy for pushing the smart vinyl, but a big draw to me was all the stuff I needed came with my maker and I could get to work right away. Nothing worse than learning a new machine and finding you need to buy x y z to do basic things.
This was hugely helpful. Thank you! Was torn between maker and maker 3 as a gift for my sister. Realised that she just wouldn't like spending extra for smart vinyl in the long run, and the extra accessories would give her more joy instead. So thank you!
I’ve had the explore air 2 since 2018 and it’s been so good to me lol I do plan on getting another Cricut machine but it’ll definitely be the original Maker. I feel like there aren’t many changes/upgrades to the Maker 3 to convince me to buy it.
I bought a package when I purchased my original Maker. Came with a lot of blades etc. As much as I always like the newest and best I'll stick with what I have. When that goes I'll invest in the newer machine but hopefully that's not for awhile.
I have the Cricut Maker as well as an Air Explore 2 and have been wondering if I should upgrade to Maker 3. I have heard some people who have the Maker and said they are purchasing the Explore Air 3 because they don’t use all the features on the Maker but could still cut all the materials because they would not get rid of their Maker. Thanks for this very informative video. Certainly a lot to think about. I have had your membership for two years and love it!
You forgot an important point!!! COLOR! no color choices in the new 3 yet. I love matching my decor with my machine! I'm gonna stick to my air 2! If I we're to upgrade I most likely would stay with the maker. The benefit of the rotary blade alone is worth it to me. I can't imagine my spending extra on smart vinyl as I have brands I like so much more that cricut. And I did more iron on projects than decor. My wild rose explorer air 2 still wins my heart! Matless cutting isn't such a big deal plus if I really wanted or needed matless for a super long project I'd buy clear contact paper from dollartree and as it to the back off my vinyl to thicken it up or put a flattened cereal box on the back with contact paper. So I could matless cut. Honestly we might be able you use matless vinyl in our machines now. Anyone try? When the joy came out there were hacks then they may still work. I the the and of the day I'm a girl who adores her not pink machine and not giving that up for features that are lost on me. 😆
I’m new to the whole cricut world so when I heard there was a newer model out I got that (maker 3). Even tho it didn’t come with a mat I got so much other goodies cause I bought the “everything bundle”. It’s priced at $499. It came with Soooo much stuff! So many helpful tools and Sooooooo Much material to play with. 11 (13” X3’) Smart Vinyl (2 of them are metallic), 3 Smart Iron On (Silver & Gold Glitter and a holographic) and 12”x21’ Transfer tape. 10 pk of smart paper card stock AND the normal sample pk that comes with the maker 3. Now for a newbie who doesn’t own a cricut at all it’s a fantastic deal. Ashe already said the smart vinyl is more expensive. I don’t mind buying a couple mats and regular vinyl, but with this bundle it’s not necessary for a while. The only thing I think imma buy besides a mat and some regular vinyl is a pin pen and a squeegee and maybe a easy press. 😉 I’ve got so much to start with I’m too excited 😆 Oh and I got $50 off so everything came up to $490 after tax and I used Affirm! Oh and she super fast! I’m super excited about my cricut Journey!
Thanks for video. I normally upgrade right away but this time I am sticking with my original maker. Currently for the price for what I use the maker for it is not worth it plus I have two makers when doing large projects. Maybe later after it has been out awhile I probably will upgrade.
Thank you for your honest opinion in this video! I’m still using the Cricut Explore and I really want to upgrade so I can have the ability to cut fabric. My choice will be the original maker.
just received my Cricut explorer air 2 for Christmas N still learning 😂 I don’t care about the faster speed it’s fast enough for me. My only problem with the 2 is the mat not sticking long enough.
Very informative. I'm staying with my original Maker. I don't want to invest in Smart vinyl. I'm a hobby crafter and don't see the need for the added expense. About to start my 4th year of MGL membership. Love it and you!
After reading available materials and looking at several videos, I will not be purchasing the new Maker anytime soon. I utilize a number of non-Cricut materials which require the mat. Though the cutting time on the new Maker is lessened, it is not significant. The original Maker will print and cut on colored paper (link: help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009558493-Print-Then-Cut-on-colored-paper), I do not utilize the feature often. Finally, there have been no updates to the cutting pressure adding to the amount of materials that the machine can cut (less the smart materials). I also went on my Cricut account to see what Cricut cutting materials I ordered over the past two and realized it was not much at all. I also looked at the prices of the new materials which would allow me to use the features and decided that the cost did not justify the means. I always want to make sure when I upgrade, I am getting the best value for my crafting usage. There just is currently not enough value for me to upgrade to a new machine.
When I first got the maker I got the bundle package which was about $499 I also got the warranty with the package but one of my rollers on the maker kept breaking so Walmart in the responding me my money so I said I might as well upgrade so I will be getting the maker 3 in about 6 days
The original maker is also able to print then cut on colored paper, cardstock, etc., unlike stated in this video. It was the explore air 2 that couldn't do it. help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009558493-Print-Then-Cut-on-colored-paper
I have an explore air two and I was thinking about getting the new maker but now I’m not sure I would love to hear from other people as well who already had the older maker
I have an Original Maker and I love mine. Yes, the maker 3 has a few upgrades, but the original maker costs less and does the same thing. As in cutting, scoring, debossing, etc.
I suggest you read all those posts above. Looks like I am not spending too much AU$$$$. I can buy an Explorer 2 for half the price with all I need that I would have to buy to even begin to buy all those knick knacks which you really need not knick knacks at all. I wouldn't buy a car without the air bags let alone the tires and steering wheel! Why bring something out when they know it is already a big spent. Yes I know business. So obviously they don't really care about the buyer anyway. Pity I like companies who still care about the customer. I can't see customer service in Australia let alone in any country. I am liking your honesty Tanner. Yes putting buyers arms behind their back. Turns me of the already. They haven't done themselves any favours. Cricut we are not stupid. I am checking Facebook sales in my area now or do I really need it at 70 you? Hmmm thinking music playing. Bye Tanner love your honesty you have won me hugely. God bless you and yours.
I would like to see a video on print and cut the maker verses the maker 3 on colored paper, I put colored paper on a print and cut with my maker it's was ok, I used lite colored paper, thank u for the comparsion of the machine,,I will stay with the original maker per it only 3 years old
I started with the explore air 2 and quickly upgraded for the maker 3 due to sales on items. I have been collecting their machines in the mint color and I’m not seeing that as an option with the new maker so I’m fine with my original until then 😅
I bought my maker last year & will not be upgrading any time soon. I'm annoyed that, while the new maker 3 is matless, it only uses THEIR brand of vinyl. I saw how much it was at Michaels & no thanks. It's a big investment & I'm not a huge fan of their vinyl. Ita a bit temperamental
I PURCHASED THE MAKER 3 AND I HATE IT! SOOO MANY ISSUES...CUTS SUPER SLOW WITH A MAT!!! AND HAS A PROBLEM RECOGNIZING THE MAT SIZE....I UNPLUGGED IT AND PLUGGED IN MY OLD EXPLORE!!!!
I am keeping the original maker. The new maker 3 only cuts faster with smart materials and they are so much more expensive, it is not worth the cost. I can to anything I need to with the original. maker.
I have my cricut maker so i loce but would love Explor 3 so i could make longer things inlove mountans i saw on intergram long rol of moutians so that will be my new one somdsy. I picked up some smart Smart material and I wanna try it on my maker I want to try it on my Baker but I also have a silhouette and I love both of them I really want to explore 3 so I 3 so I can do longer things because we do really because we do really love the mountains.
I will stick to my original maker & I'm enjoying it. I would purchase another original maker. I heard that the maker 3 & explorer 3 can only use the smart vinyl and not regular vinyl. Is that true?
No. Circuit gets everyone excited with new machines. You get it and outcomes the next even better one and the updates just dont always work I have and air 2 that is impossible everytime it updates, and I will never buy another cricut. NO. DONT BR TRICKED.
I don't really understand why you promote everything Cricut and then other presenters on your channel go on to make videos stating how you don't actually need the Cricut brand and in fact that often cheaper versions are superior. It's so annoying when you've purchased expensive Cricut items that you've recommended only to then be told that there are much better options for less
We do not promote everything Cricut. We enjoy the Cricut machines themselves, but not most of their other materials or accessories. If we have ever recommended Cricut products that we now don't recommend, it was in videos from several years ago before we found the better products. Through the years we have learned about and tested so many other brands and found better and cheaper alternatives. Sorry you find it annoying, but when we find new things that can save you time and money, we LOVE sharing them in the hopes of making everyone better crafters :)
