I had a terrible flea infestation in my basement so I sprinkled food grade diatomaceous earth all over the floor. After two or three days they were all gone. It does kill them.

Do you leave it on carpet for awhile or vacuum it up?

@@Wendy-ir4gv My basement floor is concrete so I left it there a while. You can use it on carpet. I think you leave it there a day or two but check it out online. There's a lot there about it. Use FOOD GRADE. It's not harmful but breathing in too much, especially pets, isn't ideal. It's a fine powder and could be an irritant. Vets have advised against putting it on pets although I have. I think that's a precaution because there aren't sure how safe that is.

Pest control DE uses food gtrade DE. Read pest control instructions, but buy food grade, usually same thing and much cheaper. Sometimes extra ingredients are added depending on target insect. You can Google what u want to guard against and use a second product, or add to your food grade DE

The concept of "food grade" puzzles me. There are a lot of retailers here in Europe selling high pure Diatomaceous Earth (not limed). As far as I know, this is what it taked to have it suitable to human consumption.

Thank you for your comment! While “food grade” and pesticide Diatomaceous Earth share the same active ingredient (silicon dioxide), there may be significant differences in regulatory or processing standards, especially between countries. Unfortunately, we're unable to discuss diatomaceous earth outside its use as a pesticide, but if you're interested in some of the science we've collected about silicon dioxide, please visit our fact sheet: npic.orst.edu/factsheets/degen.html We also have a brief FAQ about pesticide vs. food grade DE: npic.orst.edu/faq/de.html If you have questions about diatomaceous earth, please call us at 1-800-858-7378 (+1 541-737-6091 if calling from outside the United States), Monday - Friday from 8:00am to 12:00pm Pacific Time, or email us at npic@ace.orst.edu.

I am rather disappointed in the message here. Food grade is much safer for use around your pets and children; however, the same general safe handling practices should be used. That should be the message here, not that you should only buy the one labeled as a pesticide because it has the proper material handling on the label. Better yet, require this product to have the safe handling labels.

Topp Catt I use food grade in the house and it works great. I use safe practices, keep the pets out of the room, use a face mask, and gloves, and use a little squeeze pesticide applier to get it into nooks and crannys. A little goes a long way so no need to leave piles of it around for the pets to sniff at and inhale. it is still a respiratory irritant.
@maryhobbs8835
@maryhobbs8835 7 лет назад
Topp Catt I put it in the baseboards, around the perimeter of the house and no more ants or other exoskeleton bugs in the house, takes about a week or so to get real results. We use a pet safe and spray and vinegar for flareups before it takes effect.

This video is largely garbage and yes you can use food grade DE, along with EcoRaider spray, put down every ten days for about three weeks, which will take care of many bed bug infestations. Also, for your husband, use Cannabis oil, especially from a strain such as Cannatonic, which has a ratio of CBD to THC of around 1:1. It's been shown in multiple studies now to cause cancer cell death.

To anyone!! A call for bedbug eradication help. It's been many years now I've had these. Cimexia (a form of DE) didn't work for me even long term & also applied directly to my body. (also tried pesticides including Crossfire with no success) With Bedbugs..I read that some people have great success and some don't with DE. Which is possibility connected with the form of DE they're using... for it is processed sometimes in different ways.. so could you tell me what is the brand you have experience with that had 100% success with..and what stores you've seen it in for sale? @@bigbad9583 Not if you're infested bad. It is more of a preventative. It kills larvae eggs as well. You must also do it properly, a bed bug mattress cover over the dusted mattress keeping the powder in place. You must also know the powder moves and can be blown away walking by it depending on where it is. Repeats is necessary if you're infested, in all area's of the seen bugs. You should buy large amounts to do this repeats. I am typing on my friends account while I research the preventative measures as a couple in the building has them.

I had a hard time at first with the horrible death it causes in the bugs, but as infestation grew worse, all compassion evaporated! The DE label food grade doesn't contain additional pesticides. The DE itself if the same. FOOD GRADE isn't a finer grind. It's what kills bugs. I used everything at once. BOMBS (3X amount directed) Traps, sprays, natural essential oils, traps, DE, boric acid and 2 types of home-made traps: 1 involving duct tape and peanut butter, the other a jar with grease on the side and honey and mozzarella as a bait. They traps didn't work at all. The commercial traps caught 1/2 dozen. It wasn't until DE that I really noticed a difference. They were just gone. I don't know where they go to die, but very few dead ones either. I have a dog and I moved him put when I bombed and sprayed. But with DE it wasn't necessary. I'm thinking of taking it myself

The contradictions are frustrating. Is it safe? Only when used properly. Wrong. Is it unsafe? It has not been tested and therefore can not be recommended by the FDA. Should it be used to control different problems in people and pets? NO. Since it can cause damage to eyes and irritate skin and cause fatalities in both when inhaled, I can't understand why anyone would use it on their pets or for themselves. Even when extra cautious, accidents can happen. Why ask for trouble?
