The editing on this All Stars is beautiful! The cutting between close-ups and the regular two-shot is naturalistic to the flow of conversation. And Joshua's audio is crisp without any dropouts or lagging. Great show! ❤

Josh talking about how fast Reign of the Supermen came and went made me bust out laughing. I work at an LCS and I was sorting through a massive collection my boss bought. Every time a Superman title came up from that period, it was “Clark is dead, here’s the new guy, something happens, CLARK IS BACK!” within seconds. Absolutely hilarious but damn, what a moment for comics!

Having Dan Jurgens and Josh on the same show would be awesome! Two of my favorite writers for Superman for sure.

Mic drop moment for me was Superman #80 when Cyborg just blasts Eradicator and then the entire narration over the destruction of Coast City. I was sitting in a Baskin Robbins with my parents eating an ice cream. I was utterly shocked and absorbed sitting there. 31 years later I still viscerally remember that moment.

Reading Spiderman comics and the Clone Saga til JMD run was very rough to read. Also yes Josh @19:54 one of the main reasons people care about Peter supporting cast was due to his multiple books . Spectacular Spiderman for example

I enjoy this podcast and lime Joshua taking time give insight into his work, but would you ever consider adding timestamps to these videos? You guys tend to go off into tangent and while it is entertaining, sometimes I’m more so curious to hear Joshua’s thoughts on the books he’s working on and it’s hard to skip around and not miss anything. Hope this makes sense, either way thanks to both of you for making time to do this show! ❤

I am sooooo down for a marvel reboot, it's not even funny. It's what post-Secret Wars should've been.

Once again another great episode of All-Stars. So excited for All-In and the new arc of Superman in October!

I am kinda in favor of a reboot for Marvel(and DC) because you can't really take continuity or the shared universe idea seriously. I think a reader can easily overlook it most of the time so I agree with Josh that it isn't necessary for Marvel(or DC) at this point. The Ultimate and Absolute Universes look like I could get what I want out of a shared universe. I just hope that they run for a while so we get to see some meaningful progression/change and they take continuity seriously.

I believe the suit is black because black absorb all spectrum of light so a being who is powered by light would benefit from the extra absorption. Atleast that's the thought. Mullet is probably just cuz we was down for while but hair and nails still grow? Or maybe I just read to much into everything 😅

In favor of a marvel reboot. I'd like to see something different honestly. To many people with the same powers running around eg spiderman etc

both spidey and supes get pretty iconic, bad ass black suits in the 90s. and I don't think those three things coinciding is a huge surprise considering the direction of culture both in general and specifically in comics at the time

Ive no idea if marvel comics should reboot.. but the MCU should DEFINITELY reboot after or even before secret wars What I will say though is I like some of the new ultimate universe ideas, not all of them (the doom plot and the avengers don't resonate with me at all I'm 50/50 on black panther (him being married to okoye is.. hmm) But if they reboot they should do what they always do and copy DC.. streamline the heck out of the 616 timeline (&no I don't mean synergise with the MCU either 🙄) then establish the Ultimate universe as it's own thing akin to absolute DC Move Miles Morales over to that universe have him be the one and only ultimate Spider-Man over there, not a legacy not an inherited role, just an alternate Spider-Man who has his own origins, maybe alter his origin a tad, have his dad be afro Latino and his mom afro american so they can retcon that GODAWFUL racist naming gaff bendis put in miles origin first time round Have Hickman quarterback the universe to get it on its feet or let him have full control as repayment for screwing him over with Power of X Transplant a version of his new ultimate Spider-Man over to 616 (beard, married to MJ a daughter named mayday...... Basically make him ITSV ATSV parker I guess) As for 616 pick a lane, either stick with the new guys (captain samerica shuri black panther riri iron heart etc) Or go full status quo, this umm ahhing Inbetween back n forth BS doesn't work.. two captain America's (in the same universe) doesn't work, never has, because one will always suffer. Just pick a lane and stick with it .

I feel like Marvel has already had a crisis style reboot in the style of alternate universe like the ultimate and new ultimate universe. So technically they have been rebooting. It’s just they’ve been also keep making consistent of their main line. But the problem is that with the original ultimate universe is that things what kind of going down the same path as the original, which was things were much more convoluted and much more event ham fisted, kind of cherishes it when it’s simple at the beginning.

I'm very happy hearing Josh agree Marvel doesn't need a reboot. Everytime I hear someone say Marvel should reboot its either by someone who doesn't read comics and still wouldn't if there was a reboot or it's by someone who does actively read and would probably end up hating it if it actually happened.

Marvel shouldn’t reboot. They should sideline the mainstream universe for a year or two (“oh no the fans will get mad!” That has barely ever influenced their decision-making), live in the new Ultimate Universe for that time, then come back to the Main Universe with time having *moved forward* so now we can finally *move the narratives of these characters forward for once*

The thing with marvel rebooting is they would just be using the same talent that got them to this point. The current community can be fixed with some slight reseting but not a full reboot if marvel limits the amount of books they put out and focus of making good titles

Marvel is in a massive need of a reboot. Krakoa was a disaster, and despite that run starting by telling the reader their was a built in reset back to normal if Moira MacTaggert died, (it was set up like an alternative X-Men reality like Age of Apocalypse and Age of X were) for whatever reason they never used it...maybe they just forgot. So the current Marvel Universe still has to deal with this weird supervillain version of the X-Men that got introduced with Krakoa and Moira MacTaggert altering time. Captain America also isn’t actually the real Steve Rogers either. They never undid Hydra Cap, the original Captain America never had the Cosmic Cube time travel stuff undone that made it to where Steven Rogers was always an agent of Hydra. Current Steven Rogers is instead this weird Steve Rogers construct created by the Cosmic Cube to be the ideal Captain America people believed Captain America could be. You also got all the dumb stuff that got introduced with Tony Stark’s parents not actually being his true birth parents. You’ve got Peter Parker selling his marriage to the Marvel devil. You’ve got Ms. Marvel Kamala Khan being out of alignment with her more well know MCU version now. You’ve still got Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver not being Magneto’s kids because of the Fox deal that hasn’t existed for years now. You’ve got the bizarrely convoluted backstory to make 616 Nick Fury look like the Ultimate and MCU Nick Fury. Marvel was in need of a line wide reboot headed into the 2015 Secret Wars event...which everyone thought was going to be a reboot. Things were such a mess in 2015 that people were happy it seemed like they were rebooting with Secret War, people welcomed it. Things are even dumber and worse now than they were in 2015. Since Secret Wars it seems like every move they make is made with the idea of making things so bad it all just has to be undone. The only problem with rebooting Marvel at this point is I don’t trust current Marvel Comics to reboot and not mess it up right out of the gate. There’s people that could do it, but I’m not sure Marvel gets them.

When it suddenly dawns on you that DC has a lot of books called: “Absolute…” and now they are doing an entire line called Absolute. Seems like someone in Editorial loves the word
