@@Jaq-jc6ji Your wrong there Jaq as chips are potato and potato has lots of nutritional content but I personally would rather have the home made soup and bread.
Spot on for a quid. All the haters obviously haven't been in a financial state where cheap meals like these are essential to your weekly/monthly budget
No chance I'd eat this shite (I don't shop at Iceland) but it would work out cheaper per portion to buy a big bag of chips and powdered curry sauce and make your own
@fandangobrandango7864 it depends on how you value your time. I value mine at minimum my hourly pay rate. It can take a good hour to cut and cook chips in an oven, and it also involves a bit of effort. Whereas you can chuck that straight in the oven or microwave and just continue with your life until it is ready. I can easily spend a tenner at the shops on each break, and that still works out better value than pissing about making it at home when I could be doing other stuff that needs seeing to e.g. actually getting a chance to relax after a long day at work
@@ItsMeYourRealDadGreat comment ..Actually think if you did experiment and the energy cost used plus your time ..Eating out and Takeaways would in the long wrong be cheaper (if you haven't got kids) .Who knows you might even meet a Millionaire in Spoons one night over a Steak Meal Nothing sadder than the Homecooked Only Army ( Well yes there is Batch Cookers) They cannot have a soul . Sort of people who avoid Strip Clubs and get the Wife too dress up 😂
I reckon that`s ideal if you get the Munchies in the evening or after a few beers. For a pound you could even double up,couple or rounds of bread/rolls and much cheaper than buying a takeaway.
Had this gaz it very nice especially in the air fryer hi had it with the fish thats on a quid for 2 only had 1 but fish chips and curry for £1.50 carnt go wrong grankids loike it as well
Good for iceland last time i was back in Britain i was shocked at Iceland prices and well the amount of people I met who despite working still needed food banks to keep their families fed nice to see a good budget range on their shelves again
Iceland have done us all a big favour with this pound range, everything in it is great value in these testing times, hope all the other supermarkets take note & follow suit 😊😊
There's also a lot of really poor value stuff hidden behind "3 for £10" to make it look like a deal when often you could buy exactly the same items individually in Tesco and it wouldn't come to £10.
@@jonjohnson2844Yes I find Iceland quite expensive although their big bag of frozen sprouts for £2.00 are quite good value. They taste really good and cook in about 3 minutes.
Farmfoods are the cheapest for the Mayflower sauces, good review as always Gareth, When I have bought similar before I have found the chips come out soggy so may be better value getting the curry sauce and chips separately so no soggy chips
Love Farmfoods -=350 gramsColliers mature Cheddar £1:79 , butter £1:29 and yes we get the Mayflower powdered Curry from Farmfoods. You get a box of Chicken and veg Large Spring rolls from Aldi , add a packet of Noodles and you can make Makway Curry in a hurry. But , as Gareth say for £1 in the freezer as a stand bye it’s grand cheaper than buying Curry and chips from the Fish shop or Chinese .
@@Anita-gp1gv Beef Jerky currently £1 for 100g instead of £3.98 as well, they are also doing the packs of Amoy Noodles for 29p a pack at the moment, on the butter one is 250g and the other around 220g for the same price so check which one you pick up
Had a couple of these recently, noticed the the curry sauce is more spicy than in the Mayflower one and the chips & curry sauce meal that Iceland did until a couple of years ago. So even though I don't rate the curry sauce as highly as I do the Mayflower version its still perfectly acceptable for a quid 👍
You can also boil the kettle for The mayflower curry sauce. Just slowly pour the boiling water whilst mixing to the thickness you want it to be. You can do this in a mug for quickness
Nice one Gareth, I haven't tried this one yet but, I've tried the £1 chicken Korma curry & rice last week & I think it's really nice, Nice enough to put five more on the Iceland online shop cart for next week.
Love you vids, honest and enjoyable, would love to see you cook multiple in different ways basically microwave (always if thats an option) and the other way either oven or airfryer... and advise on what you think is best as lots of people use microwaves to save money however if the product is much nicer in the oven that woild be good to know as i would always want to cook my food in the best way, thanks and keep up the great work
Looks ok tbh mate..Add a pack of microwave rice to that to bulk it out a bit all good..Also been using the mayflower curry sauce for years and love it done as a chicken curry with a few peas and onion cut chunky or king prawn and onion and peas..I find if you add boiling water from the kettle from the start it dissolves easier...
Hi Gareth ,thanks for another update .that looked great for a pound .cant have any complaints at all really .keep up the spot on work .Best wishes from Scotland .
You Poms and your chips and curry sauce. I understand it's a staple and favourite for many. But here in Australia it's either chips and gravy, chips and tomato sauce, chips and chicken salt or chips and vinegar. But never curry sauce! Besides, Mayflower Curry products aren't available on Aussie supermarket shelves. It's an online order thing. At one stage there, McDonalds had a curry dipping sauce for the nuggets. It wasn't very popular, too sweet and too weak. Cheers everyone and 'Curry On'... 👍🤤😀
These £1 meals are great. They are only 85p at Morrisons. Not wishing to have a Microwave, I let them thaw and add any extras and cook them in the airfryer, it saves on the time in the oven. A 35-40 min dish in the oven , takes 25 in the airfryer. For the chips and curry i will add some cayenne pepper to zap 'em up and given them a bit more zest.
Why do you not wish to have a microwave? Granted i don't used mine that often because a microwave will never cook food as well as an oven or airfryer but they still have their uses.
@@Coxy_Wrecked Pretty much it is level of radiation that they give off when in operation. Even though they have safety features, they still emit harmful stuff, just like the wifi routers that everyone has in their homes. I remember before they had auto shutoffs in these things in the 1970s, a women in a chip shop took the door off hers to save time. Standing in front of it for hours each day, she cooked her stomach.
Yeah Iceland are getting loads of publicity for these £1 meals and I don't know how they do it as most of the big supermarkets do the same sort of thing for less than £1
Good review Gareth👍 I used to love the Mayflower curry & chips back when I was a teenager I'd make a dirty sandwich out of them... delicious😋 (very dirty though haha)
Looks good can’t complain for a £1 only good for a snack. you have to add a little bit of chicken and a few more chips and maybe some rice with it , I shall try this generally if I don’t like the taste of the curry or if it’s not hot enough then I had Tomy own liking but thanks for the video 10 out of 10 as normal thank you.👍
You need to try the mcains hasselback potatoes from Iceland they're are really good when done in the air fryer for 20 mins at 180 and I make my own garlic butter and spread that on them with the sea salt n cracked black pepper that comes with them 😋
A good meal for a quid , if you want to stretch it out add a bit of cooked chicken a few mushrooms and onions , great . Thanks again for the vids , all the best , Brian
The food comes second to Gareth I love how he tries anything no matter how rank it looks, I was laughing so hard watching the death nut challenge, my wife had to see what I was watching and now she is a fan! Keep doing what you do mate you are a one off and the best food reviewer on gods green earth
Sunday Salute Gareth, a very quick personal comment. Thanks Iceland for your £1 a go items. But from my POV,only things to go chips. Vinegar and Salt . Ketchup on the side. All my very best to you& yours pal Allan&Family. ❤
Could you do a comparison between heating meals in the oven and in the microwave for taste. Years ago I made 3 Christmas puddings. I cooked one in the microwave one in the pressure cooker and one in the old fashioned steamer. The difference was noticeable. Best the old steamer then pressure cooker last microwave. I was wondering Would the chips be soggy in the microwave?
I don't ever remember seeing that before, but in the small print it says "if you are not happy with this product we will CHEERFULLY replace it or refund your money and that's a promise!".
Haven't tried these ones... yet. Tried most of the others though. The chips looked like they had a bit of a crunch to them unlike when you nuke them, on saying that, 12 minutes might crisp them up a bit
I know you tried the bom Bahia asda curry but ive just got the slightly cheaper version for £3. Sold chilled and just the curry without rice. Hot tikka masala. Really nice, it's not spicy really but still tastes lovely.
Tried this the other day, not too bad but not up to mayflower standard, that time is too long for the microwave, it dried up the sauce a bit, chips were a bit harder.
Hi, I love your channel. I have misophonia, but you are one of a very, very few people that doesn’t trigger me in to a rage when I hear them chew. I sound a right nutter but it’s true. 😂😂😂😂😂❤️
Had to take out a second mortgage to shop at Iceland a few weeks ago so it’s nice to see they’re doing some nice deals at the moment might give this one a miss though
Prices have taken a hike there, I used to pig out on the beef dripping chips at £1 a 900g bag, then the price kept increasing and now £2.75 a 900g but they never seem to be in stock.
I saw you had tried the Goldfish brand curry sauce and have to recommend you try the Madras version, it's not like an Indian madras but tastes even better than the original Goldfish, as close as you can get to a takeaway sauce.
Ordering On-Line from Iceland today. 24 of the £1 frozen items are out of stock - including the Chips & Curry Sauce featured today and the 2 Battered Fish Fillets you reviewed recently. Are they rationing the cheap stuff?
Hi Gareth, a £1 for chips and curry can't go wrong for that price, I look out for this, I'm off to Iceland in the week I'll will pick it up. Cheers take care😁😋🤤👍
Curry Sauce with chips is great 👍 £1 fantastic. Dunno why garlic powder isn’t put larger. Garlic and onion are big allergens for some people. Looks like a decent amount for one person. Mild curry too.
Garlic and onions are actually extremely rare allergens which is why there is no requirement to list them as allergens on the ingredients list. Strictly speaking people can have allergic reactions to anything, so they have to limit the list otherwise everything would be in bold. A lot of people claim to be allergic to things when in fact they just have a bit of an intolerance. True allergies can be deadly
@@PotatoPirate123 They can be, but not all are - an allergy is basically an excessive immune system response to a substance. So, yes, some things people say are 'allergies' are actually 'intolerances', but many people have allergies that aren't (or aren't expected to be - obviously it can change with repeated exposure, particularly with certain types of thing) anywhere near deadly. (Hayfever, for example, is an allergic response to pollen, but it's generally mild to quite unpleasant.)
I'm a fan of the mayflower curry sauce powder. It's dyed the vessel I use to prepare it in an indelible shade of yellow. It's like proper chip shop curry. I do wonder what the hell it's doing to my insides but then it tastes so good that I don't care. The flavour is hard to find outside of the UK.
Looks quite tasty and not full of toxic crap. Have you ever calculated what it cost you per kilowatt hour to run those air fryers ? If you look at the label on you will find out the information that you can use against your leccie bill and i am guessing you will find it cheaper to buy them from the chippie if its local and with walking distance . Even boiling a kettle to make 1 brew is a lot more expensive than you think , same for a single piece of toast.
I recently tried a Morrisons £3.25 chilled meal because it was reduced to clear. Dry Italian mozzarella sauce sticking the pasta strips together, with about 5 small chicken pieces. It was pretty bad, and the chicken was so tough I threw it away. I would have been really annoyed if I had paid full price. Iceland £1 ready meals are usually more reliable.
Watching this as a Madras curry I made earlier defrosts in microwave and now wishing I’d just bunged chips in the air fryer and cracked open the Mayflower.
I work night shifts and we have no kitchen facilities other than a microwave and a kettle. So these ready means are perfect to have when on shift. Quick, easy and cheap.
You cant go wrong for £1, chips arent cheap these days either. I like the curry sauce you get in jars at Tesco or Sainsburys which are around 45p but then you have to add the cost of the chips. I cant see these been vegetarian though, the ingredients look okay its the curry sauce no mention of what it is and no V sign on packet
