While maintaining whoever is wrong should be punished and the law shouldn't be lopsided, I would like to point some of the factual errors in Mr Sarkar's statements. 1. Men and women were never equal; we lived and still live in a patriarchal society. 2. In almost all cases in the past and in most cases now it is the wife's family that hosts the marriage expenses and the groom is treated as if he has landed from heaven; you cannot deny this reality. It is weaved in our customs. 3. Since daughters didnot get a share in parental property, the groom's side DEMANDED whatever according to their status/greed and the girl's families went through a tough time in many cases to satisfy the 'in-laws'; if not Dowry what was this? If their greed wasn't satisfied the bride was ill-treated, assaulted, thrown out or even burnt! In the past, it was so easy for men to even take a second wife or have an affair openly. What is that equality statement Mrp Swarup Sarkar is making and you are supporting? How often does a man and a woman contribute equally as EQUALS and set up a home independently away from his parents? Yes, these days such marriages do happen sometimes. 4. Mother is and has always been the primary caretaker of the child. Even working women go through all the hassles to fulfill this role. Tell me honestly how many fathers are actively involved in total child care? There are always exceptions, let's not make that the main theme. 5. Todate, women are expected to take husband's family name; children also by default get father's name. Mr Sarkar's argument that the man with earning capacity should get the child custody too is like men having all the privileges. Isn't it unfair for the women? 6. He mentions 'genetically' in connection with men's contributions! It is laughable; he needs to take Biology lessons before his next speech. 7.Irresponsibly he speaks about insurance, providing for the family etc; it is deplorable. Everyone starts with good intentions only. By making irresponsible statements, he is setting up one sex against the other. After marriage, if a woman takes insurance won't she make her husband, the nominee? If his argument is followed, women should count and charge for every work they do at home (if they are housewives) while also taking care of his parents. Btw, how often men are expected to take care of their in-laws inspite of facing abuse? Disappointed with the host totally; she just provided him a platform and didn't interrupt even when he was saying wrong things. Let's be honest; let this men's movement be not a battle of sexes. In two cases, the dowry was not asked but the girl's family insisted on paying. In one case, no dowry was asked or given, the expense was paid by girl's family. In all the five cases (and mostly 99% of marriages in India), the Guy was earning 2 to 3 times more than girls. Almost no girl prefers to marry a guy earning less than her. Expense of marriage (one time): 15-20 lac. If the average income of guy is 12 lac and the girl is around 6-7 lac per annum. In less than 5 years, the monetary expense will be balanced and girl will have a better standard of living. 3. Why would someone be forced to stay in marriage?

Fair and just but not easy ??? The problem with this line of thinking is that you're saying that marriage is a social institution before being a private institution, which is not true. This only shows a tendency of casteist society. Moreover, article 21 of the constitution gives me the right to speedy trial and life with dignity while article 19 gives me the right to form association and by extension dissociate when wanted. So keeping in view my fundamental rights, no person, govt or court can force me to stay in marriage if i say in open court that I don't want to continue in this marriage... How else do you think you can force 2 individuals to stay married if one doesn't want to stay in marriage irrespective of the reason???

If one party doesn't want to stay in marriage which fundamental rights do you think the party can invoke? They can only ask for damages and compensation nothing more... How do you think a 2 wheeler vehicle will move on road if one tyre doesn't want to move?
