SHOULD Muslims Dress Differently than Non-Muslims? 

I adore how Islam sets general guidelines for the "minimum", allowing many possible expressions of fashion, but only puts limits on specific things like no gold or silk for men.

Exactly. The general guidelines for dress in Islam pertain more to ensuring modesty rather than imposing a certain type of culturally specific clothing on all believers. Thanks again for yet another informative video brother. 💯

Al hamdulillah. Great subject, many of our brothers and sisters blindly imitate the Arabs and much of the time the Arabs promote their culture with Islam or as Islam. I am Muslim and do not want to be an Arab or Persian

I would approach the issue from a "sacred law" perspective. Cover up what is considered your nakedness with valid and lawful clothing, in and out of prayer. Do not cover up with that which is invalid (transparent) or forbidden (eg something purchased with forbidden money). Leave that which is offensive (eg animal images). Follow the Sunnah (eg pants above the ankles). Did I leave anything out 😃? Once you've followed the sacred law for dressing, a lot of these issues of dressing like Westerners vs Arabs takes a back seat rather than a front seat. Because you got your priorities straight.

When I worked for the TSA, there were two women that wore just above the ankle, uniform skirts. I think they were Pentecostal.

*women have a dress code particularly but every Muslim ethnicity has different Islamic dressing that is traditionally and culturally in sync and gel with the Islamic traditions. But obviously Muslim women are mentioned in the quran to cover modestly as stipulated below ayah* يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ, قُلْ لأَزْوَاجِكَ وَ بَنَاتِكَ وَ نِسآءِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ: يُدْنِيْنَ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِنْ جَلاَبِيْبِهِنَّ... “O Prophet! Say to your wives, your daughters, and the women of the believers that: they should let down upon themselves their jalabib.” (33:59). What Is The Meaning Of “Jalabib”? Jalabib جَلاَبِيْبٌ is the plural of jilbabجِلْبَابٌ , which means a loose outer garment. See any Arabic dictionary like Lisanu ’l-‘Arab, Majma‘u ’l-Bahrayn or al-Munjid. Al-Munjid, for instance, defines jilbab as “the shirt or a wide dress-القميص أو الثوب الواسع.” While al-Turayhi, in Majma‘u ’l-Bahrayn, defines it as “a wide dress, wider than the scarf and shorter than a robe, that a woman puts upon her head and lets it down on her bosom...”5 This means that the Islamic dress code for women does not only consist of a scarf that covers the head, the neck and the bosom; it also includes the overall dress that should be long and loose. So, for instance, the combination of a tight, short sweater with tight-fitting jeans with a scarf over the head does not fulfill the requirements of the Islamic dress code

IT IS STATED THE DRESS CODE OF MEN IN A BOOKs CALLED al-Shamaʾil al-Muhammadiyyah: Selections from the attributes of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, his virtuous character and Islamic manners (Sirah studies series) BY THE PUBLISHER Institute of Islamic and Arabic Sciences in America, IIASA Research Center (January 1, 1995) AND THE BOOK CALLED The issue of isbaal by Dr. Saleh As-Saleh So as long as we fit those limits we are ok. also women dress code is mentioned in Sarah Nur in the Quran. But religious symbols like crosses and red dots on foreheads like pagans we cannot emanate. Also following the sunnah and wearing tobes is more reward in it because it is what prophet Muhammad(saw) wore. It is a ayah in the Quran that states that indeed in prophet Muhammad you will find the must beautiful example to follow. The dress of the Muslim countries are our symbols. However, the real question you should be posing is: *Should Sunnis dress differently from non-Sunnis?* Then, most definitely the answer is a resounding *Y E S!* Why? They must create barriers to divide themselves into smaller sects/cults to make them more right than the right they have assumed for themselves. _peace_ *if it is not clearly explained in the Quran, then it must be 100% SHIRK.*
