@Drick I completely get that but the price to build a future proof rig that can run Ghosts as good as it runs on the PS5 or any new game at the moment is just insane. A 2080 card alone is practically the same price as a new console and I dread to think what a 3080 costs if you can even find one. If I wanted to chuck £3,000-£4,000 grand to build a damn fine rig then I could but I just do not see the bang for buck there. I'm happy with my old rig and both consoles but surely even a PC Master Chad like yourself can see that being charged for what is essentially a patch is just ridiculous, regardless of platform.

To completely dismiss consoles because a PC is the best way to game (if you can afford to keep up with the tech) is stupid. Let me explain my argument in a way even you can understand, if you bought a shiny new 30 series card and one of your favourite games had an RTX patch but on top of your new card you also had to spend £10 to use said feature wouldn't you be pissed off?

Metro Exodus gave a free update for XSS, XSX and PS5 that included 3 graphic modes with ray tracing, 4k/60fps or 4k/30fps no added price.

@@YuriG03042 and people have the right to compare them to other developers that have been doing it for free for a long time, even though Exodus made a ton less money than GoT. Exodus even implemented full ray tracing in another version of the game called Enhanced Edition, and it was entirely reworked, and it is free for everyone who buys regular Exodus.

That honestly makes so much more sense as well. From a business perspective. People loved this game. They will pay for a DLC. Free upgrades keep the game relevant and the player base continues to play. I still log onto Legends a couple times a week. I really hope they keep the game relevant because I love playing it. I got no problem paying for more content.

@@JoseSilva-wv2sh that’s an amazing strawman you’ve created. At no point did I say I should be “showered in free games”. I have no problem paying for the expansion. We’re talking about paying additional money to use features that are part of what many consider to be the next generation of consoles. The customer already purchased the console and the game. An additional $9.99 just to enable features that should be part of that game, especially as the PS5 version of the game is already an additional $10.

What stings isn't just the fact that it's technically $30 (since you can't buy the upgrade without purchasing the Iki island DLC) but that the upgrade itself is so anemic. There's no improved textures, improved graphics, better lighting, raytracing, or anything else like that. All we're getting is a slight bump in resolution and load times, 3D audio, Dualsense implementation, and Japanese lip sych, which is a next-gen exclusive, quality-of-life solution to a complaint players have had since the game's launch.

@@Lord_ofcinder The textures look flat and undetailed (esp ground and rock textures), the art direction is what saves it and makes it look good. And it doesn't need a resolution bump, it is currently 1800p. It's also already 60fps on ps5

RnC looks great no doubt but different artstyle, Demon souls has photorealistic art style but not open world, The last of us is the same photorealistic but not open world. The game that it can compare with is RDR2.

@@R0ndras The game has flat textures yes but its the art style of the game that makes it look absolutely drop dead gorgeous, not to mention the insane realistic particle effects. The reason it doesnt look next gen is ray tracing and photorealistic graphics. I dont even think there is one next gen game that can compare itself with GoT as of now (I am talking playstation games) xbox I dont know if they even have any next gen games now. The only next gen thing i would love if it was there in the game is 4k textures and less clipping.

Games interface with PC hardware via the sofware API direct X which enables the graphics to be scalable. There's zero effort for publishers to release versions that work on better hardware. It's true that when RTX ray tracing came out, a few games were improved (Minecraft, Metro Exodus) at no extra cost to the players, but I consider that generous, not an expectation.

@@matbroomfield there’s no visual upgrade with the ps5 version of ghost of Tsushima other than native 4k. On ps5 the game was already checkerboarded 1800p and solid 60 fps. When minimum effort is put in it should be an expectation. The outliers are games like metro which are massive nextgen improvements and are given for free.

Loved ghost of Tsushima, really solid game but this really leaves a sour taste. Charge extra for the extra content sure, but even UBISOFT allow you to upgrade assassin's creed Valhalla for free. Charging for the upgrade feels grubby.

That's not even a correct comparison. You got the upgrade to PS5, sure, but no new content was involved. No new features, content,etc. I think the pricing is absolutely fine.

Ignore the new content for now. Lets just compare ACV to GoT. So ACV got a ps5 upgrade with 4k resolution and 60 fps + 3D audio. First, the 4k resolution is BS, it's something between 1440p and 1728p, so no "real" 4K and the 60 fps? the framerate isn't stable on ps5. GoT has real 4K and with the boost mode option the ps4 version can have 4K AND stable 60 fps. Did Sony charged for this? NO! If they would, i would send them to hell myself. With the DC, we're getting the adaptive triggers + the haptic feedback and 3D Audio for just $10. I think this is really really fair. You can't compare the ACV upgrade with the GoT DC, it's like apples and bananas

I kinda regret paying that much for it because for the life of me I can't get into it. It look stunning, I don't known if it's the story, because I will quit a game if there are sufficient elements of the story I find irritating regardless how good the gameplay loop is.

Tbf, while I agree with why people are complaining, Ghost of Tsushima has a free upgrade too if you play it on the ps5 while using the ps4 version. The dev cut or whatever it's called however did add some added features which probably took more time than just what the free upgraded provides on the other games you used as an example. For example, while the lip sync issue might be irrelevant to you, if it took no effort to do, than the japanese lip sync would've been done on the ps4 version back during its original launch too. So assumingly the animators going through all the scenes to replace the facial expressions to fit with the japanese language + whatever else they've done to improve the game is something I can understand why they ask for a fee for the upgrade. How much ofcourse is debatable. But this is also the studio which released a Multiplayer mode for free :/

The upgrade and dlc was worked on after the game had already been out for a while they are well within their right to charge money for their work, this expansion dint come out of thin air the studio spent a lot of development time for this and people that expect this for free are entitled retards.

Sony isn’t restricting you at all, you can play Ghost of Tsushima on ps5 and the expansion just fine, the upgraded version is completely optional, now if you couldn’t play ghost of tsushima on ps5 unless you bought the upgraded version now that would be a completely different thing but its not. The upgrade is completely optional and it doesn’t restrict you from playing the game or the expansion in any way. Soooo🤷‍♂️

To be fair, most upgrades are just flat higher frame rate caps, and more stable resolution. They have essentially taken higher settings already available on PC and injected it to console which Ghosts of Tsushima has already done for free. This looks like a DLC package with PS5 specific features. There should be a way to buy the dlc separate but if the dlc is substantial in size, it’d be a fair compromise.

I'm confused as to the complaints here. Currently you can play the PS4 disc on PS5 in back-compat and it runs at target 60fps and 4k...it looks great. That in effect is free, the free "upgrade" if you like. The additional content is new, the dualsense and haptic feedback is PS5 specific, and the audio -tech changes are ps5 specific. So why can't they charge for that? It's new content and upgraded changes to utilise the hardware. All the other games people are saying that have done it for "free" have only offered a 4k 60 bump due to performance. So I have no problem with them charging really for additional hardware advantages and content...

Well the question asked is misleading. Because the "Upgrade" isn't just a upgrade is a upgrade. It's a Expansion pack with a upgrade bundled with it. So yes paying a extra 20 bucks makes sense. Not could and as should a lite version of some of the updates be made available for free. Possibly. But that can depend on how hard it would be to integrate those changes in a base game patch. It's possible something time that may be in the works. Now that secondary upgrade charge to PS5 is suspect.

If I could play a PS5 game with a DualShock 4 or Dualsense controller without haptics & triggers for free but if you want the controller features you have to play. 3D audio is 15-20 years old….. paying for a basic in gaming audio

Honestly, as a 99% PC gamer (1% Switch), I would never pay for an upgraded version after I already bought the game. That is especially so when the game is less than 5 years old. So no, I would be peeved if I was getting the equivalent of a patch update and forced to pay $10-$30. As for the DLC comment, no game that has just been released should be making you pay for DLC within the year of release. I'm sorry, but that's BS. If they had DLC on day one or in the first year, odds are these were all features withheld from the base game to make you pay more to experience the full thing. I am no longer buying games on release and I refuse to buy games that have purchasable DLC within the first year of release, let alone day one DLC. It's absolute BS and I refuse to engage in these companies that are ruining an entire industry.

My opinion if they do good reward good, like smash bros has a lot of characters so in my opinion it's ok to pay for extra stuff even if the dlc is 50/50. But if they do bad then no reward like how Pokémon sword and shield made their dlc separate for both versions yet not one price for both yet the game was obviously rushed and removed some Pokémon from this version.

If you've already played the game, then why bother? There wasn't a whole lot to do beyond busywork once the story campaign is done. For me, it was a solid 30 hours that I'll probably never come back to. I could wait for a couple years and buy on sale, but by that point the next gen will be really kicking off.

Multiplayer was amazingly done, with loot that makes sense and a grind that is a lot of fun, raid mode is perfect. It was all free! So they’re asking for $30 to release single player dlc, enhance it with ps5 features, 60 FPS, and more multiplayer content! All while (insert live game service here) charges $40 for blue!

standard PS5 game in my country already cost 80-90$... I have GoT ps4 and I can buy upgrade to ps5 for 22$ my financial advice is to buy ps4 version second hand (I got mine for like 40$) and buy upgrade so it will be 60$ overall ofc we are paying for upgrade so yeah, it kinda sucks... unless it's not just "upgrade" but proper dlc content

I've had the PS4 version since day one, and I am really excited about the DLC. That said, it does feel kind of shitty that the most loyal customers are getting borked for the most cash on this. The previous free DLC was a revelation, and such a good feeling when measured against most of the industry. It just doesn't feel like Sucker Punch had anything to do with this decision...

So we shouldn't pay Suckerpunch going back in GOT PS4 code and transforming into a PS5 native version. Playstation & Suckerpunch could had just left it as PS4 game because PS5 has backwards compatibility but they went back and implemented haptic Feedback, Adaptive Triggers, 3D Audio, and perfect Japanese Lip Sync.

Microsoft *is bad* for what they did almost 20 years ago, but Playstation *isn't bad* for doing all of the following in the last 5 years: fighting cross platform play, charging indie developers more than any other platform while also being more controlling in regards to game prices (aka not allowing devs to put their games on sale without official Playstation approval) & forcing players to pay to play the next gen version of a game they already own? There's more examples but those are 4 off the top of my head.. That's some interesting logic........
