Now, I have two friends who also watch RWBY. I don't talk to them very much. Both of them were not bothered by Pyrrha's death in the same way I was. One of them even keeps making the point that Pyrrha's death pushed Jaune's character. She doesn't understand when I try to explain that it isn't great to shaft one character for another's sake as they did with Pyrrha.
@khoseftadros6947

Clyde Marshall well if you treat the character as a tool for another it won't feel emotional. which surprise surprise I don't feel emotional about jaune. it doesn't feel like someone grieving over a friend. it feels more like a guy crying over a Ferrari that crashed into a magical gasoline. and I'd rather see someone's dying optimism and inner conflict of doing the right thing than just see the hidden power cliché character.

Thank you for making this video. I'm of the belief that Pyrrha will come back. I'd like her to come back as flesh and blood too not just a ghost. It doesn't matter to me if she is dead and will be resurrected or if she was just transported somewhere. So long as she returns.

My pleasure, thank you for watching and commenting! I've been chatting it up with fans on Discord, in RT forums, and on YT vids about RWBY and about Pyrrha's death in particular. I've heard much dispute about Pyrrha and it didn't feel like there was enough people who wanted Pyrrha to come back speaking up about it. So I really wanted to get the main debate points for her to come back, and the counter-points for her staying dead, all in one place for discussion.

Even before I started digging into it, I just had this feeling regarding Pyrrha's death and it just does not sit right with me at all. My feeling has sort of been validated by the character and plot analyses I've seen. I know that they've gone so far as for the actress who plays Pyrrha to publicly announce that Pyrrha really is dead but I'm not buying it. Creators have told fibs before to influence audience reactions to things. I really don't think RT is above it by any stretch of the imagination. If Pyrrha really was meant to die and stay dead from the show's conception than all I can say is that they executed the whole thing very, very poorly. I am not someone who cries easily. I am one of those stone cold bastards who managed to keep the waters at bay during the ending of The Walking Dead Season 1 video game. Barely. But Pyrrha's death made me a lot more depressed than the death of a fictional character ought to. I guess she just became more to us than anyone would have anticipated given her relatively small amount of screen time.
@marisakennedy777

+Clyde Marshall My feelings say that I'm worried Pyrrha is not coming back. But my intellect says that they always planned on bringing her back. Their official stance is that they will not say who at the end of volume 3 is alive or dead. Who was in question? Pyrrha, Roman, Penny, and maybe Neo and Cinder. Those were the primary characters that may have died that people cared about. But of those, it was very unlikely that Neo and Cinder died - as primary enemies (not just "red shirts"), they have to die on camera. They did end up confirming Roman is dead dead. And everyone just knows that Penny is coming back, that was really never in question. (The doctor - Penny's father - just gripped the arm rest of his chair when she died, he didn't go into hysterics.) So who does that leave but Pyrrha? And who is really in dispute but Pyrrha? If Pyrrha was actually dead dead, then it would be in RT's best interests to disclose that rather than leave fans hanging for a year. However, once volume 4 begins, I wouldn't be surprised if they announced she was dead, now that they'd have the story for the fandom to follow and see it unravel themselves (less likely they'd just drop the series out of disappointment over Pyrrha).
@clydemarshall8095
@clydemarshall8095 7 лет назад
I was under the impression that Pyrrha's voice actor "confirmed" Pyrrha's death. Did they back track on that and say they will neither confirm nor deny the status of the main three "dead" characters?
@marisakennedy777
@marisakennedy777 7 лет назад
Clyde Marshall Yeah, the "stay dead" people like to pretend she did. All she did was twitter that she'd look forward to voicing other characters now that she wouldn't voice Pyrrha. But she did not say that Pyrrha was officially dead, which would go against the strict "say nothing" policy that Miles and Kerry specified in the AfterBuzz. Besides, she has voiced Pyrrha again in Chibi, so that wasn't even true.

"For it is in passing that we achieve immortality... infinite in virtue and unbound by death". I'm not sure if she should come back fully, but we still need a crystal clear realization by Jaune that she is indeed alive in the afterlife, perhaps by having her speak to him, and realize she is there next to him always, and will see her in death. I would love a final fight, I'm not gonna lie, but I don't think she should be fully resurrected (maybe temporarily for said fight); it'd be kinda weird to have someone amongst the living who has already seen the afterlife. She should definitely have something to do with the final relic, the relic of choice; which is in Beacon. All her vol3 story arc had everything to do with choice. There should be more meaning to her sacrifice in volume 3, something which has to be explored in volume 8
@marisakennedy777
@marisakennedy777 Год назад
Good point you bring out about the final relic being of choice, at Beacon, and her arc being about choice. I hope the writers don't drop the story line and tie it together later. ....I'll keep what you said in mind.

Miss Kennedy, I have hit upon a thought that his been bothering me for the past week. Pyrrha is a perfect, flawless character for all intents and purposes. She is literally the type of character whose only fault would be loving her friends too much. Typically speaking perfect characters are boring to readers and viewers yet most RWBY fans at the very least found Pyrrha likable if not one of their favorite characters. Why do we like Pyrrha so much and why does her "death" hit so many of us harder than the deaths of other fictional characters?
@marisakennedy777
@marisakennedy777 7 лет назад
just call me Marisa ;) She was perfect in a realistic way, rather than the 2D perfect types that don't seem to actually think, they are just some kind of robot clones.
@clydemarshall8095

How was she realistically perfect? She doesn't feel artificial that much I can tell but I'm still at a loss to explain it.
@marisakennedy777
@marisakennedy777 7 лет назад
Lot's of "perfect" type characters are nice just because. They don't seem to have any inclination towards badness, no deeper thoughts than being happy, and generally don't really seem to think much at all... and they especially seem to be oblivious to other people's failings and anything bad going on around them. Pyrrha on the other hand is not kind unconditionally - she didn't give Cardin any benefit of the doubt. Yet she can be incredibly kind when she feels there is reason to be. She also isn't oblivious to others' motives in their kindness to her, realizing that some just think of her as a famous celeb type. And while she is happy, or seems to be, she also struggles with loneliness from feeling alienated.
@clydemarshall8095
@clydemarshall8095 7 лет назад
So perhaps it's that we identify with her loneliness not so much her competency.

Clyde Marshall to be honest I see perfect people who are realistic are people like locus and carolina from red vs blue. locus is the best mercenary but at the cost of being a monster. just like pyrrha said "what if you can full fill your destiny but at the cost of who you were" carolina pushes people away which nearly got her killed. as for pyrrha. she's believable. you don't find much people like staying good forever such as locus.

Enjoyed your video. I'm going to assume because of editing some scenes were left out. However I can toss an idea that clarifies her motive. She was raised and trained to be a Huntress (to save the world) and she was fine with that until given a chance to save the world on a larger scale. She was conflicted, fought because she was suppose to, tricked to killing penny, fought, asked to choose, chose, had the choice taken away, and when faced with crazy odds, STILL choose to do what she was trained and expected to do......try to save the world. She was raised to be a weapon and in the end, that's all she was.

Larry Thomas I come to think about pyrrha's character and I found out that it's more than just the maiden choice. the only protagonist who kinda had a grey area was arguably pyrrha. yes she wanted to help people but she hated the pressure she forced in to do so. and ozpin literally made that pressure even worse. -she'd either lose herself and become a weapon (something she hates) but for the greater good (something she worked for her entire life) -or ignore the greater good (something she worked hard her entire life and wants to accomplish) and keep her humanity to gain a little happiness in her life. she also held doubt over ozpin implying that his actions are "wrong". she had so much potential she could have had trust issues with Glynda and the group. or turn against ozpin and the group and no not join cinder just be in a grey area. or fight with ozpin because of her friends. but instead it's just a fight between pyromancer cinderella and Magnetic Achilles/carolina. now she can have the chance to be with jaune and gain happiness without being put on a pedestal or pressure but decides to shove jaune into the locker and sending him to possible danger. you know Vale where it's invaded by grimm and then go kill herself? she chose the maiden powers because it had the possibility to actually save people but it's pretty obvious going suicide isn't protecting the world. I see where you're coming from though.
@lthomas195
@lthomas195 7 лет назад
Thanks for your perspective. I'm going to disagree with most of your points, but that's the cool thing about having this discussion. I'm not here to say what is "the" answer, just what I'd like to think "could" be an answer based on the resources I have and my interpertation of them. I don't believe Pyrrha was suicidal. I believe she only did what she thought was her destiny: "help protect the world". Her dilemma was being offered the options to do it based on her previous idea of achieving her "destiny" (go to school and become a huntress) or become the maiden (achieve her "destiny" at the risk of losing herself). The idea of losing herself was additionally hard because she had now found love in Jaune and made friends. These two things changed her perspective of what her life was and could be. In Vol. 3 Chapter 8 after stating "None of this is how things was supposed to happen.", she asked Jaune his opinion. Jaune, not knowing all the information or context, and attempting to be supportive, told her the Pyrrah he knew wouldn't back down NO MATTER THE COST. Her response said it all. It wasn't what she wanted to hear, but someone had made the choice for her. Even when in the basement and asked to be the maiden her answer was based on expectation. She said something along the lines of I'll do it. Isn't that what you want? As much is I like Pyrrah's character, her story arch seemed to be: A warrior maiden who unexpectedly found friends and love along the way. She wasn't suicidal. Pyrrah was a soldier (definitely not a tactician) and thought she had a shot at stopping Cinder. It's not like she understood Cinder's powers fully. She knew she was powerful and It was Jaune who assumed Oz was defeated. She acted based on that info. She was just doing what she thought she was supposed to do: "help protect the world". Heck, up until this point, she thought "saving the world" was mostly killing Grimm. They were in a time of peace. Anyway. I actually hope Pyrrah's NOT dead and kinda have a theory on that as well. Again, thanks for the reply and feedback.

@khoseftadros6947
@khoseftadros6947 7 лет назад
Larry Thomas yes she believes in destiny but she isn't obsessed about it. my evidence that she hates the pressure she forced in to do so is also from volume 2 episode 7 where she talks about her inner conflict. we have to remember ozpin got defeated by less than five minutes what would pyrrha do? unless you are telling me that pyrrha read the script and knew that cinder would go easy on her XD. jokes aside if pyrrha was so eager to fight cinder she would have told jaune to go tell Glynda and the group and pyrrha fights with ozpin in chapter 11 due to her belief (protect the people). when jaune told her that she doesn't back down from a challenge she hated that statement. let's not forget that she shoved him into a locker and sending him to possible doom. and I'll say again shoving your friend to possible doom and go to a place that is impossible to even stall is not protecting people. I'll give you an example. locus (from red vs blue) and pyrrha are similar when you think about it. both isolated soldiers who have a slight of doubt on what they do but hide it behind an idea or belief. however pyrrha fights off the coldness of her life (which became easier because of jaune) while locus accepts the coldness and becomes a part of it. pyrrha believes that she's destined to help people and locus believes that he's destined to become a soldier and follow orders at all costs. locus actually shows way more dedication than pyrrha ever showed yet he knows there are times he shouldn't do because it won't accomplish anything. he decided not to go after the reds and Washington because there were more forces and it was risky even though he was ordered to kill them at all costs. pyrrha believes in destiny but she's not obsessed about it that she'd go to a place that is impossible to accomplish anything.

I'm going to say something about the list. it's definitely not for the tournament why? cinder and the crew did not know about penny in volume 2. what if Nora gets in the singles? she is a capable fighter. so it's highly doubtful that the list involved the tournament

Soooo it's been a long while since I revisited this video, and I even appreciate it further. Now looking at RWBY recently there are things I realized, especially with Volume 7 and 8, every time a character starts to outshine team RWBY due to having more interesting arcs or story, they get shafted and character assassinated, both figuratively and literally. The best examples would be Ironwood and Pyrrha, where their arcs were actually interesting and actually struggle with decisions of what to do as well as internal conflicts. But before they flesh anything out or give them any catharsis, they shaft their arcs by making them commit actions that are very much out of character before dying, Pyrrha by suddenly going to the tower to seemingly just kill herself and Ironwood by being just a cartoon tyrant in Volume 8 in order to make team RWBY look like they're on the right which they are not. As for Pyrrha returning, at this point, I think it's unlikely to happen, but if it does, my best case scenario where it would make most sense is her technically never dying, the whole Teleportation thing: The reason why they'd teleport her is because Cinder couldn't find the Relic in the vault and since Pyrrha was going to be a Maiden, she takes her to Salem to interrogate her regarding that. once they realize she doesn't actually know, they experiment on her, the Grimm Hound does open our imagination. And we can see where it would go from there, whether they control her, she escaped, Hazel freed her because he's a moral hypocrite, you name it. And go from there. I don't know how she'd react to the events of Atlas though, and I don't think it would be positive either, what team RWBY and JNPR did was very, VERY wrong. They toppled Atlas on Mantle, leaving anyone who wasn't around the portal to die and drown, left all the Atlesian Soldiers who held the line and tried to protect the people and the kingdom to die, and threw the civilians who DID make it to the portal in Vacuo of all places, an area that already suffers from dangerous wild life, scarce resources, and basically not even a functioning kingdom. The main cast doomed a lot of people both who remained in Atlas AND the ones who got teleported to Vacuo. I don't see in any way if Pyrrha is alive and learns of this, she'd be happy with them, even if she cares about them deeply. Though it could lead to an interesting confrontation. But in the end, that's not likely, though it would be interesting to see.
@machjac
@machjac Год назад
That would be pretty amazing, if the teleportation theory turned out to be true after so long. But with so little groundwork in establishing such a twist makes it unlikely through my eyes, even if it is pretty compelling. I don't think RWBY is that radical - I find their story and their "twists" to be pretty predictable (not that it's a bad thing). But because of RWBY's otherwise predictable story, and the lack of content setting up Pyrrha returning, I don't see this particular twist happening.

Y'know, it's 5 years late, but.... I just wanted to say I'm thankful for such a great video. I've dwelled on these points and the nature of Pyrrha's death for five years in the fandom, but never really paid my dues to this video. Pretty much - yeah, this video is spot on. A sequel analyzing how badly Pyrrha's death has been translated and justified through the run of RWBY (particularly the Statue Scene in V6) would further critique the writing decisions behind such a dramatic gamble. They had a chance to strike gold with such a dramatic event, but I fear they lacked the gumption to follow through and make something wonderful out of a powerfully tragic moment.
@marisakennedy777
@marisakennedy777 2 года назад
Thank you Mach56gss. It really is good to know I'm not alone in my thoughts. As for a sequel, I've thought often on making one, but the problem is that so far they haven't given me anything good to work with. That is, I don't like just spouting my displeasure and they haven't given me anything I actually like. While I still want them to bring her back or at least give her proper resolution, I don't actually hold onto any hope of such at this point. But you never really know with RoosterTeeth. The statue thing doesn't sit well with me. Maybe they introduced that red-head girl that was there because there is a plot twist coming ....but, again, not holding my breath. RWBY is not over yet. Although to some it may be. I'm going to wait out another season and then reconsider a sequel. Thanks for your feedback, I found it very valuable! 🧡
@Mach56gss
@Mach56gss 2 года назад
@@marisakennedy777 Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I totally understand your feelings about a "possible sequel". It's wise to be careful about coming across as too negative. I am in complete agreement. I would've liked Pyrrha to come back, and theoretically, would welcome it. But the odds are, through my eyes, incredibly small. There were so many opportunities to establish the foundation of her return, RT never invested any time to it (or JNR for that matter, har har). Oh I certainly am annoyed about the statue scene, as well. The fact they could not give us Pyrrha's mother's name feels like a slight. It doesn't make sense and denies the one last bit of closure that could've at least helped fans of Pyrrha settle with one last bit of understanding. Alas, we got more cryptic symbolism with the leaves aloft in the wind, with no guarantee that such symbolism actually matters. It COULD be an extension off of Volume 3 Chapter 8's "Destiny", where the two leaves were blown apart and the single, solitary leaf in "Lost" represents Jaune on his journey without Pyrrha, a motif that might end with the two leaves reuniting at the end of the journey. Then again, it could also represent Pyrrha's lingering memory. Or it could just be an emotional reminder of that scene and the fact that Jaune is alone. There's no real productive meaning to gleam from such symbolism, just emotions. Oh and the statue scene... argh what a letdown that was! There were some moments that were great, but the too much of it felt too "Disney", in a universe that is decidedly *not* a Fairy Tale. The attempts to justify Pyrrha's actions and her death rings hollow and is such a disappointing end to her story (if it is the end). So much significance behind Pyrrha's death has been left unaddressed and unappreciated, and the Statue Scene continues to shove all of the powerful themes and stories behind her death under the rug. But yes. Let's not be so negative. There's zen and perspective to be found after all of these years viewing RWBY's story. I'm cautious, but always curious to see what happens next, even though most of my enjoyment has been irked as a result of JNPR's unfortunate role in the story. Always happy to discuss! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

@@Mach56gss Well put. The hardest part for me in the whole thing was that she was on the path of becoming my all-time favorite character. She just needed more filling out of her character. Now she is like a never-to-be-completed work of art. Always depresses me when I think the issue in its entirety. Not unlike when you are absolutely in love with a tv series and it gets cancelled after its first season. The only worse part was how botched the story felt with all the either un-answered questions or sloppy writing (hard to know which it was).
@Mach56gss
@Mach56gss 2 года назад
@@marisakennedy777 Yeah. When you kill a character, you kill an entire universe of possibilities. It's akin to splitting the atom: If you are going to kill a character, you get power, narrative drive. You generally want to channel that narrative potential into something - especially when the character is especially beloved. The "Lost Lenore" archetype isn't new to fiction. But has Pyrrha's death really led to anything, directly? The only person who really carries on Pyrrha's legacy and narrative is Jaune, and he hasn't done much that relates to her death. Pyrrha died for very little, imagine splitting the atom to power a ceiling fan. Just... disappointing. Of course, the show isn't finished, so things may change and the payoff may be down the road. But for 5 years post Volume 3, the lack of any real "payoff" resulting from Pyrrha's demise makes it seem like a waste of a character, rather than an actual compelling aspect of the story. It could be sloppy writing, or a lack of foresight, or simply the fact that the writers have had something planned for all of this, but have complicated their own story and as a result, have delayed or cut that aspect of Pyrrha/JNPR's story. Right now, it's not certain (although it is leaning in one direction).

That was way too sophisticated for me to leave a longer comment on. I'll just say that I agree. If that's all we saw from Pyrrha it would definitely seem like she was just a puppet, unless she is one of those characters who develop via flashbacks, but I don't see that happening. Would be a good idea to equalize the volume a bit if you do a similar video in the future so the listener doesn't jump when there's suddenly an overly loud film segment because they cranked up the audio so they can hear you.

Thank you Kethus, I've heard we are supposed to meet Pyrrha's mother in Mistrel, perhaps we will get some flashbacks of Pyrrha as well. And thanks for the feedback, you're right about the audio, I tried to get it level, but I'm still a noob at Soundbooth and audio recording. :(

@KethusNadroev 7 лет назад
If you can extract the audio you could use MP3Gain and make all files have the same normal volume, then put them back in the editor you are using, no idea how Soundbooth works. It's not a big deal though, pretty much *everyone* is like that. Where did you hear about Pyrrha's mother? I don't really browse rt's forums and they don't seem to have a search feature, you can't even see your own posts, geez.

Someone said it was in the DVD commentaries and interviews with Miles and Kerry. I need to watch the commentaries, but from what I heard, they said in the Vol 2 commentary that Pyrrha was supposed to have a flashback related to her mother in Vol 3... but that never happened, so many think that it's because they decided to cut the scene since we'd meet her mother anyway, as an interview said Pyrrha's mother would become an important character.

yeah I too wanted pyrrha to have stayed alive, just unable to venture with her group. though, I want to point out something: rooster teeth unintentionally (at least I hope it is, or else we should be worried about them) gave a bad moral lesson with her death. and that is "no matter how much you worked hard to achieve your goals, someone that lies, cheats, and steals their way will fucking kill you". pyrrha was the hard worker, while cinder was the ladder. to me this, this is a really bad moral, we need less of this thank you... but, the damage is done, and unless this is all a ruse and she does return later on (I really hope not in the end cus that'll be really wasteful) then I'll still believe that they killed her to get shock value, boost their ratings, and sell their merchandise...

NITRON huh I always got the lesson of "the main characters are just incompetently dumb, deal with it" or "don't be dumb and you'll be fine" if they killed her off for shock value (which seems to be the case)..... I'm actually not that surprised that they'd be that incompetent. it went from red vs blue season 10 then off the cliff. *Clears throat* sorry my cynicism kinda took over me right there. have a good day :)

NITRON about her return that depends. I treat resurrection just like death, if it's for shits and gigles then it's bad writing but if it has a meaning then I'm game. same goes for pyrrha. if she comes back A-ok like nothing happened then that's just lame. but if her return has some sort of significance or meaning then I'm cool.

Marisa, I was looking at some old comments and I saw how you said you wouldn't be surprised if they announced Pyrrha really was completely dead upon the start of Volume 4. I don't follow the RT forums. Did they announce anything regarding Pyrrha as of the conclusion of Volume 4?

Funny you should ask, (I'm Marisa btw, this is just my other YT account). I know a guy who worked as a volunteer at RTX, he says he spoke to Gray and that he told him Pyrrha was dead dead. But he didn't say she couldn't come back, rather, he said something to the effect that it's possible she might. And yet, no official announcement was made either way (that I know or have heard of).

Nicholas Souddress khosef Tadros It did feel different than a sendoff. Usually a send off would have tears. Instead it felt more like a memorial. And if you notice in the opening theme song they show JN_R and they are standing with Pyrrha's spot vacant, like they don't want you to forget her. Maybe it's done out of honor for the dead or something like that, but I think it all could be hinting to Pyrrha coming back.

Marisa Kennedy now yes I did notice the part of jnpr standing with pyrrha's part vacant but what I'm talking about is the armor and weapon upgrade. instead of keeping pyrrha's stuff as a memorial he used it as an upgrade for his weapon which can possibly be broken in battle. that's called looting. call me heartless but I kinda laughed.

Marisa Kennedy I'm going to say this right now. I'm not a rwby fan to be honest. I like discussing things and theories with people such as yourself. but admittedly I have issues with rwby. for example the villains. cinder is basically a villain for the sake of being a villain. which disappoints me because RT is known for having good villains. for example locus from red vs blue. merciless, cunning but reasons and point of view is understandable and can't really blame him for it. I'm okay with emerald to be honest. but she's not the main villain. I wanted to get this off my chest. hope no one is somehow offended :)

Hi Clyde! Sorry I don't message much anymore. Got a new design job and been busy. It's also hard for me to use the new RU-vid message notification system. I've seen the first 3 episodes of season 5 so far. I got plenty of thoughts on the newest episodes, but I assume you mean regarding Pyrrha? On that I'm still not sure. The last real hope I got that she may just be coming back was when we heard her in Ruby's dream. But it hasn't happened since. There being gods in RWBY and the info about the relics having special power makes it more possible that Pyrrha can come back, but not necessarily more likely. So far there hasn't been anything I picked up in Volume 5 that makes any difference as far as I can gather. But if you mean other than Pyrrha as well.... I like the Renora thing. And Nora's lines always are gold. I'm kinda holding my breath to see where this series is headed as far as writing and story quality.

Yeah, I try not to dwell on the negative, but the season four was a real let down in a lot of ways to me. I've come to terms that RWBY will never be what it was without Monty working on it anymore. I'm not sure yet, it may depend on what happens in the rest of season 5. I think I may talk about how RWBY has changed over the years (good and bad), the story and where it's going, questions and answers and more questions about the story, and perhaps a Pyrrha update. Is there any topics you may want me to talk about? I think you have a lot of good ideas, and I'd love to hear them.

Regarding the argument that resurrection invalidates and ruins the impact of death, I need to disagree. It is certainly true that bringing back a previously dead character can ruin the meaning and power of death in the story but it is my belief that is only because resurrection is both poorly executed and often overused. There is a certain machinema series called Rise of the Spartans. In it, scores of characters are killed off and in the final act are all resurrected. They use it as an opportunity to explore death and at least one of the characters flat out asks what the point was. By the end of the series, I believe it satisfactorily handled the resurrection plot point and succeeded in not only making it stupid but also making it very powerful.
@khoseftadros6947
@khoseftadros6947 7 лет назад
it doesn't ruin the power of death if done right. in red vs blue, made by Roosterteeth, they brought a couple of characters back from the dead but that didn't change the fact that alot of characters are dead and SPOILERS church, the main character, is permanently dead.
@clydemarshall8095
@clydemarshall8095 7 лет назад
The only characters I remember really dying were Church, Tex, the Director, and a few other freelancers. Them and UNSC/Rebel extras. Doughnut was never really dead so I don't really consider him a Resurrection and Doc just kinda disappeared and then returned. Oh, and there were a number of people who died on Chorus as well. Is Church really gone for good as of season 14? Did he use his last moments to give his friends a fighting chance? It was a mild cliff hanger ending.

Clyde Marshall I have a rule for character returns: to me a character's return is okay if done for the right character and it has its consequences. I don't believe she'll become Grimm-ish or possessed villain or A-ok but rather a villain by her own free will especially after what's she's been through. and no I'm not talking about a conflict between pyrrha and jaune but a conflict between pyrrha and ozpin. especially after what ozpin has done to her. she might see him just as wrong as everyone else. let's not forget that both her enemies AND her allies ruined her life to accomplish their own goals. as the great Harvey Dent said "you either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain".

Also khosef, I am not sure if I asked you but do you think Pyrrha will return? Do you actually want her to return? Personally I think there is little they can do to fix the bad writing of her death but I can forgive that if she returns in a meaningful fashion. I guess part of my anger over Pyrrha's death is that I keep remembering that she was just seventeen years old. Ozpin had no right to put her in the position that he did. Why didn't Glynda volunteer to be Fall Maiden amongst their little group? I'm kind of hoping for an episode where Jaune meets Pyrrha's parents.
@khoseftadros6947
@khoseftadros6947 7 лет назад
Clyde Marshall to answer your questions. I believe pyrrha will return. and I prefer her to come back in a good way. if she comes back A-ok then that sucks. I prefer pyrrha coming back broken down. not knowing what's right and wrong anymore. my disappointment is that she had so much potential just to kill her off just to develop a fully developed character which is jaune. what I find ironing is that pyrrha said that she's happy to be part of his life and that she'll always be there for him only to literally push him away to get herself killed and make him suffer. and ozpin is one of my reasons why pyrrha should come back. I talked about pyrrha's character before. I said that she can't stop herself from being unhappy. and when she found jaune she decided to be with him to gain a little happiness and then ozpin decides to snatch it away from her. chapter 2 proved to me more that she's just a tool for jaune.

My interest in RWBY is hanging by a thread at this point. Killing off a character is the best decision they've made so far. I'm not saying every show needs charracters to die to be good but for the kind of show RWBY is trying to be, Pyrrha and Torchwick being the only characters to die so far blows my mind. Not even generic faceless nameless bad guys die the girls weapons just smack them around (see the train episode of volume 2 for an example). So in an action show where nobody dies or gets hurt it's harder to be invested so killing off Pyrrha was a very good choice. Honestly killing some characters and from what i've seen of the animation from volume 4 I am willing to give the show a second chance.

So at @48:00 - 58:00 you would say that what would make RWBY interesting to you would be the death for tension aspect above world immersion, character interaction, or the humor in the series?
@dave-tu7tf
@dave-tu7tf 7 лет назад
Action makes up a good part of RWBY (or at least its supposed to) so if I have no reason to believe that fights have any meaningful impact or outcome, everytime I watch a fight in RWBY my first thought isn't "Oh boy wonder how this is gonna go!" it's "Oh boy here comes a fight scene that may or may not be good looking and fun to watch which will ultimatly end up being pointless." Then yeah people getting hurt or dying would be interesting, Ruby and her friends don't have to kill people but at least show us fights are dangerous. Also my world immersion has pretty much been broke since day one. Character interaction and the humor of the series is doing good for me though.
@marisakennedy777
@marisakennedy777 7 лет назад
dave7700 Gotcha, that makes sense. Personally, I'm more interested in seeing how the good guys defeat the bad guys than wondering if a main character is going to die. But I hate death for tension. Death for realism I'm okay with in some circumstances. For example, training for years to become a soldier only to die because your parachute fails to open before you even land on the ground for your first mission ...is a realistic possibility, but a stupid story to tell. To me, that's what Pyrrha's story sounded like so far.
@khoseftadros6947
@khoseftadros6947 7 лет назад
dave7700 I'm not a fan of pyrrha's death to be honest. I don't think it's exactly good writing. like I said in one of the comments it doesn't prove that no one is safe. in chapter 11 everyone in team rwby jumped into danger and they randomly saved themselves somehow. look at batman the dark knight the conflict was intense but the main characters didn't die like Alfred, Lucios Fox, Gordon, and batman. but in the end the villain won proving his point. another example is red vs blue they didn't kill off the reds and blues because it wouldn't be the same without them and not the good type. and like the video said it only proves that pyrrha is jaune's wheelchair. and when you break a wheelchair you can always get another one. the fight with the reds and blues against enemies were intense even though they pulled off and no one died.
@dave-tu7tf
@dave-tu7tf 7 лет назад
I understand and trust me I know main characters don't have to die to make a show good. I'm just saying this was a good decision because it was a fight that actually had some weight to it. My problem isn't just that no one dies, no im ok with that. It's that I hate the whole aura thing. I get it you want your characters in dangerous situations but don't want them to get too hurt or die but that doesn't mean you give them literal plot armor. It serves no purpose other than being plot armor Monty even siad "We needed to tell a story without our charcters dying" and thus they put aura into the stroy. So to see a fight between Pyrrha and Cinder (you know a bad guy who should be trying to kill people trying to stop her) end with Pyrrhas death was interesting.
