@@thetribalist6923 I have to challenge that idea though. How about we start by reducing the amount of money we throw into the hole and see what happens
@@daemonace5910 that's a terrible idea, what are we supposed to do with the extra money? It will just devalue our currency and make the money hole useless. We should make the hole bigger that way we can employ more diggers to dig the hole.
My father worked as a hole digger for sixty years until he was tragically crushed by a truckload of money being dumped on top of him and set on fire. But do you see me saying we should shut down the money hole? NO!! I am a true, blue-blooded American patriot, and I will defend our God-given right to dump the nation's funds into a giant pit until my own death at the hands of the money hole!
You’ve got to stop it with this hole-ier than thou attitude. We’ve all sacrificed to the great money hole and will continue to do so until digital currency takes over. At which point, we’ll start throwing in computers for good measure. The Anti-Hole Lobby is just a bunch of trolls. Those A-Holes may go on and on about it’s costs, but secretly they dump money in with glee.
*red-blooded edit: I only point it out that OP meant "red-blooded" cause "blue-blooded" almost means the opposite. Red-blooded means you're a patriot who loves his fellow countrymen, blue-blooded means you're a rich elite who (implicitly) thinks he's above everyone else
sorry for your loss. Money hole accidents are becoming more prevalent than ever. recent files released on the FBI Vault shows documents on previously unseen money hole casualties and cover ups. rumors have been going around missing persons last seen at the hole but it's quickly dismissed and "debunked" by the pro-hole lobby. they can't keep getting away with this. we need to dump more people into the hole.
@@233kosta Letting them fail destroys the world economy. That would be fine if we had built in fail safes that kept people housed, fed, and with medical care during a crisis, but we don't. I'm not sure you remember the shut down during the pandemic a few years ago, but it showed we are clearly not prepared for a crisis. If banks are properly regulated they WON'T fail. We put in proper regulations after the great depression and had a 50 year span of no failures. Then the Reagan administration came in and gutted banking regulations and we've had a crash about every 10-15 years since. Unfortunately the US government has been captured by the same wall street banking lobbyists they are supposed to be regulating, and so they loosen the regulations little by little until the system crashes. Then public outcry forces the government to step in and re-regulate. Then the cycle starts again. Like I said, about every decade or so.
@@oggyreidmore Governments are acting like they own us. We're responsible. Been a while since a politician had a good reason to fear the electorate. Letting the whole system collapse would indeed have hurt a lot of people in the immediate present, but it would have also formed the basis of a lasting recovery that would have secured the next 50+ years. Ever wonder why it took this long to deregulate the banking sector? Think about all the people born around 1900-1910 who lived through the great depression, and actively paid attention throughout. Do you think they formed any significant voting block by the time cuckservative extraordinaire Reagan ran for office? We could have completed the recovery by now, in a much more robust way, but instead we're going to keep getting mini-crash after mini-crash, followed by a fake inflationary "recovery" and another mini-crash, for as long as we're willing to tolerate a less-than-mediocre future in exchange for the promise of slightly less discomfort today. In the long run this will harm many more.
"Why are you pushing this pro-hole agenda? Is the money hole lobby paying you?" "I resent that accusation, I do not take money from special interests, and if I did I would throw it right in the hole because I am a patriot." lmao, this writing is absolutely gold
Nancy is the best, the anger and conviction she has behind the line "My father worked two jobs to put money in the money hole and he didn't complain!" is Oscar worthy
The dialogues are more realistic than in 99% of movies nowadays. They interrupt each other, speak over others, express emptions through body language, etc.
I have some pet peeves about discussions in acted movies/shows, and this has none of those. it's so well done it almost made me believe there is no money hole in new Mexico!
Angelo L I get that you think the first two commenters are wrong but doesn’t mean you need to insult them, if you don’t have anything nice to say you probably shouldn’t say it
Tikoblocks I’m only saying there’s no need to insult people with differing opinions or who get things wrong sometimes, it doesn’t help anyone in the end
Nah, I am from Ukraine and one of major reasons to vote is electing a new government that actually closes some money holes tho usually the holes lobby restores themselves via courts. It's very relatable for all Eastern Europe.
@@elijahfordsidioticvarietys8770 "Citizens should decided how to depose of their own money", "Personal Money holes", "What if the money blows away or is improperly burnt"
Exactly I was thinking about this throughout the video, and I considered that the government could easily do this and it wouldn't actually cost them any more money than the cost of excavation, and printing new money to replace that being put into the hole, thus they could actually do this and it wouldn't be nearly as expensive as the actual cost of the money being dumped.
@@carbon5362 The Hole has been a institution in America for years but its simply not economically viable anymore, these are difficult times and there are other more pressing matters then the Hole.
I love how American liberals think they are being kind to soldiers by calling everything they did in Iraq and Afghanistan meaningless. (I am a liberal and a veteran, though I'm sure you'll all find a way to paint me as a right wing propagandist because I disagree with the liberal zeitgeist on this point.) Last time I checked, Iraq is a functional democracy, and Afghanistan has an entire generation of teens and young adults who grew up being educated in the Western democratic tradition. The Taliban are likely to be overthrown in 10-20 years unless they continue their rather surprising path away from hard-line Islamic fundamentalism. Liberals stopped calling soldiers baby killers and instead paint us as some kind of pathetic dolts. But you didn't care about the young Afghani girls making incredible strides in their education and personal growth until we pulled out of Afghanistan- which incidentally is *exactly* what liberals crowed for for 15+ years. My friends spent years of their lives along with their physical and mental health keeping those kids safe on their way to school. And yes, those kids (now young adults) have lost much of their freedom overnight, but at least they KNOW what they've lost. They are angry and resentful of the Taliban for taking away the freedoms that are every human's birthright. Unlike their parents, who were never willing to fight the Taliban no matter how much money/weapons/training/support we gave them. The Republican party used to have pretty sound foreign policy. John McCain and Mitt Romney both were extremely vocal about the threat of Putin, and Obama and liberals mocked them for it. Cold war relics, like the doofuses in the Pentagon. Well guess what, the old fools in the Pentagon like Mattis were the only ones who held the line against Trump, not that any of you will ever thank them for it. And the evil military industrial complex is the reason Ukranians have the weaponry they need to fight off Putin. Liberals want to think we have already progressed to some Star Trek utopia where there is no need for a military and problems can all be solved with words. But if the last few years have shown anything, it's that democracy is in the fight of its life from both internal and external threats. So maybe there's more going on in the soldier hole than the liberal zeitgeist permits you to acknowledge. Maybe soldiers are pretty stupid, but that doesn't mean our sacrifices were meaningless. Maybe they were meaningless to you, but that is a product of your American privilege.
It sounds like you're just one step ahead. No job so you can't throw cash into the money hole? You could say it's lazy but to me its proactive. You're just cutting out the middle man.
I want the onion to change by degrees into an actual 100% legit news outlet, and leave all of their satire work here to confuse the shit out of people who looks through their past stories.
.... it would be better of they kept the youtube account on and continued putting out its videos and the actually once in a while put in a real news show just to keep confusing people

@@xzysyndrome cute. Somebody has an opinion people enjoying things and also doesn’t understand economics or monetary policy. Inflation is a necessity of a functioning currency that encourages spending and growth. The issue isn’t with the value of the dollar but the purchasing power of the people. The team behind the Onion News understands newscasting so much better than Hollywood. The tone of voice they use really captures the energy that the news has. They all sound like 1 notch of verbal intensity below about to attack the person sitting next to them.
@@InnerGiggles so in movie's some times there are fake news casts. Hollywood often does newscasts that do not feel like real news casts. Despite being silly the Onion's fake news casts capture the energy much more closely.

I love how Nancy and Duncan have David’s back on this one. Ridiculous that closing the money is even on the table. My dad didn’t have to work two jobs and he he made 7 figures annually, but you have to believe me when I say a majority of his wealth went into the money hole. A lot of our family vacations growing up were to the money fire.
This is as relevant today as it was 14 years ago, and I love how many of The Onion's debates and such can be shared still and still hold up. They should redo some of these, like "The Money Hole: The Debate Continues".
They had to stop because people kept thinking their stories were real. I'm not shitting you. People stopped being able to differentiate between the real news and their parady news stories. One of their stories would trend every so often and become a thing

The real problem is they're too accurate lol. For instance the "pundits are graded in real time for their opinions". Once you see that, it's impossible to take seriously any of the talking heads of TV ever again.
I sincerely can't believe they would contemplate laying off the hard-working hole diggers just cause they don't like dumping money into holes. It's despicable.
Honestly my favorite part is that nobody is arguing against the concept of having holes to destroy money in. They're all just arguing over whether it should be a government program or not.

Shows like SNL would have comedians giggling after every hilarious addition to the joke but they just roll through it completely in character. Despite that you have u could tell they had a lot of fun with it as everyone seemed to have some aspect of the money hole they wanted to make cannon
***** You falsely assume that increasing the value of the dollar is positive. On the contrary, the United States has been struggling with low demand and stagnant consumer spending, as well as an increasingly troublesome trade deficit that damages the economy, almost entirely due to the rising currency strength of the dollar. Generally, moderate devaluation of currency can have a strongly positive impact on exports, a crucial factor in the development and sustenance of a healthy, growing economy.. If you enjoy deflation, unemployment, foreclosure, and technological and social stagnation, then by all means, pursue your aforementioned policies. On top of all this, deflating the currency increases the cost of debt. In increasing the value of the dollar, you correspondingly increase the debt in real terms. To say the least, your proposals would make terrible policies.
As someone who didn't know the Onion made videos over a decade ago, I'm glad I'm just now stumbling upon these! These news videos (Today Now and In The Know) are the best ones on the channel

Julianna McKannis is definitely my favourite Onion presenter... She has the incredible talent of making the dumbest shit sound really intelligent - either that, or making everyone else in the room seem inept by comparison. Great writing, great acting all around, just wish we had more Onion like this nowadays.
