On this week's show, Keith welcomes Honest Youth Pastor to discuss how to listen to a sermon. What criteria should we use to judge whether a sermon is good or not? Or should we even judge?

This is a wonderful example of how godly people both learn about the Word as well as share the Word in the midst of their earthly lives. This was great. Kudos to both your guys 👍🏼👍🏼

Im so use to the preachers going through books and going verse by verse i dont want to go back. I feel like ive grown alot more though it. I realize there are diffrent ways that are not bad. Great interview!

Thank you-this is very timely for my husband and I as we are frustrated with church depth and over application. We've been thinking through how to approach the pastor, and the idea of just asking questions is great. A follow up question: what do you do when you think the pastor has misunderstood a text? Re: application: one of our favorite pastors was extremely light on application. He explained the word and left it to the HS to apply (you mentioned this method towards the end). That was so beneficial to me because it never left me with the sense of, "now you need to go do this thing" (which is never a good place to leave your congregation since it focuses on works rather than grace). Instead it left me with the idea of who God is which is life giving in every situation that I could possibly encounter throughout the week. Thanks for these-I enjoy listening to them as I'm able.

Excellent discussion, I attend a very small church and have been approached by my pastor to preach on a Sunday when he will be out of town. It's a blessing to be able to draw on the experience of brothers who have gone before me. God's grace and peace be with you both!

Simple. As a Southern Baptist you know a sermon is simply the text. A joke. 3 points and a poem!!!

asst pastor filled in the other week with 4 points, apologized for it, and assured us we would still beat the methodists to lunch.

Free Methodist here, we are preaching verse by verse through the book of Romans, but to be fair most of the convictions of the pastor and I, as a preacher, are basically baptist by conviction and Methodist by association

My favorite sermon is LUKEWARM AND LONING IT by Francis Chan, that message changed my life.

Nice, appreciate you both! Michael is always kind no matter who’s sermon he’s reviewing. He’s done incredible biographies too, especially the Mike Todd one. We need to dig deeper before we follow someone’s ministry. His is dangerous.

But it doesn't explain when in Shrek 2, when they drink the potion that changes themselves and their partner, that donkey turn into a horse instead of a human.

@@ConversationswithaCalvinist There is actually a point in the movie where Donkey alludes to not always having been a donkey. It's been so long since I've seen the movie and I don't really intend to watch it again, but that part stood out.
