Should we be worried about the Seider & Raymond contract situation?

So much to disagree with here. The fact that they're out of the country DOES mean something, they will want to sign the most important contracts of their careers in person. Claude Lemieux is a professional, a hockey fight from decades ago does not affect these negotiations, if it does he should be fired. Bertuzzi asked for too much and was about to become a UFA so he was traded, completely different situation.

It has nothing to do with face to face. They both will probably be filmed when they agree, just like Larks (good advertising). For us viewers, it doesn't matter, because the sound is not needed as neither party wants to talk about the matter. There are at least five parties who have something to say in this three contract. The owner, S.Y and 3 players. The owner is historically a stingy bastard. S.Y is stubborn and has low ball bigger players than Mo/Raz historically. The same formula can be seen with former players who are considered difficult to sign. Bert, Hronek e.i... Mo - I think it's about both length and money (part of the team's cap) just like Lark's contract makes up ~8 to10%. What standard of contract should/will MO set up for the team internally? If I were Mo I would never do 8X? , when most things suggest that the cap will go up for several years to come. Razer - He has had three very good ELC years. Of the three, the 2nd year was the worst on paper. Razer isn't the first player to have a tougher second year, many better players have had it before him. He made some good decisions after 2:nd year, to turn down Worlds (worn body) and he built on his body during the summer together with best friend Rasmus Dalin on the Swedish west coast (my home place and town (Gothenburg). Wouldn't be at all surprised if they do that this summer as well. Most speak for length and money and part of the team's cap. Nor will I be surprised if Raz does and thinks like MO regarding the factor that the expectation of the next cap is clearly a wave towards a higher ceiling. If I were Razer I would never do 8X? The question becomes for me, why should either of the two leave money on the table for so many years to come? The absolute best thing that could happen here is that they both do what the Leafs' Nylander did back in the days. When you know what you are worth, there is no reason to accept less money or longer time intervals. There is always someone else willing to pay or reach an agreement. It can never be about 300-500k here, no way.

I'm from Germany & have heard things about the Seider contract. I don't think the length is an issue, financially they were 1 million apart though. You're absolutely right about Raymond's preparation. He was pushed around his sophomore year. Went to the gym in the summer & played a strong season. I would never sign 8x if I were him. If they sign for 8 years, Seider would be 31, Raymond would be 30. At 4 years they would be in their prime for the next negotiation. Financially, no one should sign for 8 years, but on the other hand, you want to have a good team. ASP will also make good money at some point, Simon Ed as well. I can't imagine Yzerman saying - either you sign my demands or you leave. Both are far too important to Detroit. I think he has to come to an agreement with both of them before camp. If Seider and Raymond really don't sign by the first of December, Detroit will probably be playing for the first pick in the draft. To summarize: with Seider it will be the money, with Raymond length & money probably.

I agree and always prioritizing Larkin has been a mistake over Seider and Raymond who are both going to be the future of the franchise. Larkin is never healthy and lets be honest with a 2nd line center at best on a top 5 team.

His ego is an issue at this point because Newsie should have been fired last year and I have major doubts he will ever fire him. Yzerman is holding them back.

The only defenseman with 200 blocks and 200 hits in a season in the last decade - Moritz Seider. By all accounts of anyone in hockey the guy who plays the hardest deployments and minutes in the NHL and still puts up over 40 pts. - Moritz Seider.

He doesnt get to show his true talent because he gets 100% harder usage than any other #1D. Every single NHL team would pay an arm and a leg for a player like him

@@jennifermorris9985 I would even argue that even Colorado would take him as a 1D, not because Seider is generally better than Makar, but defensively. Makar would have more energy for PP1. makar would probably have 150 points because then no opponent would be a match for him with his offensive talent
