Today will see the busiest day of departures since December 2019, with around 3,000 flights taking off, making this bank holiday weekend the busiest since pre-pandemic. According to data from Cirium, more than 11,000 flights are scheduled to take off over the weekend, working out to more than two million seats. And with children breaking up for half term today, some families will be planning a holiday with their young, overly-excited kids. But with the worry of having a flight or train ride with screaming children, has the time come to create child-free areas on planes and trains so passengers can travel in peace?

I don't have kids, I don't like being around crying screaming shouting kids especially if I don't know their parents well enough to tell the kids to be quiet. But still, the answer to the question is no. We should not be restricting the movement of our own citizens within our own country.

I once was on a long flight sitting in premium economy class, hoping to get extra comfort, peace and work done on the flight. Two children a around 7-9 years old were seated behind me. The entire flight they were kicking mine and my seat-mates seat, putting their hand over on our heads, shouting and screaming and playing videos off their iPads at full volume without headphones on. They were truly misbehaved children, which parents who honest couldn't give a fuck about the way they were behaving, even after asking them to control their kids multiple times, and by the crew on the flight. I'm not for child free zones, I'm an uncle to a nephew myself and have experience how hard keeping a child entertained is. But there should be consequences for parents who neglect to keep their children behaved! Personally I think those parents should of received a hefty fine from the airline for failing to give a fuck about their children's behaviour, by that's just my opinion.

Any adult ought to be able to enter into a dialogue with other people when an issue arises, without resulting in a confrontation. When I am bothered by someone being loud, I approach them politely and I asked them to please turn down the volume. It's a skill that seems to elude many adults somehow, lamentably so. If your initial attempt proves to be unsuccessful/ignored, try again and if that fails, then seek support. Talking to a person directly about a grievance you may have will result in a positive outcome (provided you remain civil) with most of those you engage with.

Let's be honest, it's not the children - it's the parents. Parents these days are beyond entitled - I saw a news article about a mum crying because a flight attendant asked them to clean up after their child.... Come on!! We understand children cry or do whatever, but a parent needs to teach children manners. Babies are different - I don't know how you'd control crying when they just cry.

Depends on the age, you can't expect that from everyone.A screaming child is more of a distress for their parents than the other people around them. the badly behaved adults were once those kids whose parents didn't give a fuck about teaching them manners. I have kids, I talked to them when they were small, I explained whats polite and what is not. They are teens now, and I have NEVER had a problem regarding their behavior. It is very simple. Teach your kids how to act in public places, don't just let them run around like there is no rules because this will reflect in their adult life
@cobrakaier238

@@monicarose7 it is not about running around. I have a neurodivergent kid and a lot of my life I have spent isolated because it was easier than dealing with his tantrums and screams in public and being given dirty looks. OK, it wasn't by air travel so much in those days, was it - but the same applied to holiday destinations either by coach or train and we were easily amused by the scenery or little games such as "I spy", until we were near the destination when we would get a little excited and ask, "Can we see the sea yet, dad [or mum]? What are you going to do to judge them? Everyone's situation is different, and because that child has a kick of people being quick to judge , a lot of disabilities are not visible. So before an adult goes to spit the dummy out, they need to think before opening their mouth , because people haven't got a clue what that #parent# or family !! could be going through, as it is very emotional and distressing for them especially when it's in public.

On all the flights I've been on, it's been other adults who caused problems by being incosiderate jerks, not the children. If we're going to police travel then perhaps passengers should get an as**ole rating and you can only fly in a section with the appropriate rating!

I have seen MANY parents sit there and let there children misbehave. I think there's a different between a baby crying and a 5 year old crying they can be controlled

The brunette is just terribly ignorant. 50% or more of a child’s behaviour comes from their character (no amount of discipline will change that) and she was just lucky to have well-behaved children. The blonde lady is spot on everything.

I’ve got 3 kids. 2 are autistic. My son used to be incredibly traumatised dealing with the air pressure changes. I put absolutely every effort into trying to do everything in my power to ensure that they didn’t disturb others but I’m not a magician. This lady who thinks she is an incredible mother and gets complimented all the time is so far up her own arse I’m surprised she can see. I live in New Zealand and needed to take my kids home to meet their grandparents in the UK and I was so nervous about it, mainly because I was worried about encountering people with no empathy like like this woman.

Agreed. How many compliments would she be getting if we lived in the world she suggests? A separate travel system for parents with noisy children? Double the number of buses on the road? Half the regular passenger capacity on trains so traincars can be reserved for children? If she's on a special bus or train with her well behaved children and a pack of unwashed snot covered animals...who's going to be there to compliment her?

I’m totally for this. The last time I used a bus, this brat plops himself next to me because he wants to ride up front despite the fact I’m already there, and the next morning, I’ve got bad flu for a week. I’ve refused to use a bus ever since.

So you call a kid a brat because he sits in a free seat on a bus, like most people... He doesn't sound like the one who's the brat in this situation. But I'm sure your grumpy absence on the bus is better for everyone

Child-free public travel options are a pipe dream. Poor child behavior does occur frequently enough, often during holiday travel, but it's an unfixable problem.

Yes I’m a parent to a 5 year old and my son doesn’t get the luxury to walk around aisles and carry on and make a mess on a plan - but how many parents care about that l, they are entitled parents letting their children lose on a plane, and get annoyed when you pull them up about it… I will be honest I’m also a flight attendant and hate when we have dozens of children onboard they alllllll end up blocking the aisles we can’t do our bloody job and god forbid you tell them to sort out their own children you end up getting abuse - I’m over it, to be honest it isn’t about the kids it’s the parents and lack of care factor for anyone else, my son even sat in business and no one has a bad thing to say about him onboard when we landed they all gave me a smile as if to say good job because initially I admit when we sat down I got a few frowns lol

'They don't know better'- well then they should, that's down to parenting. Unless the child is a baby or toddler, any child older than that should know how to behave in public.

Just have to laugh. It’s a bit annoying but once adults have a few drinks on them on a plane they can be just as bad. If you’re going to ban kids you need to ban alcohol
