To put it simply...no. because there's no guarantee you'll get a job in that field, you carry the debt regardless and the value of the teaching provided is now not worth the £30k-£40k the student is meant to pay.

@abz7800 11 месяцев назад
I believe your saying that exactly because he isn’t talented or bright . This is classic human behaviour where people encourage those who are less able physically or mentally by saying they can do something or are something but it’s obvious that there’s a barrier stoping them from actually being those qualities or achieving those goals . Words of encouragement are aimed at the less able as it’s seen as something required for them . Someone very successful and talented and bright isn’t given those words since it’s very obvious Le that they are those qualities from their actions behaviours and or achievements

@@abz7800 in retrospect what you are saying is correct objectively on most cases however some people have either met someone really successful and bright and will just reiterate and appreciate that or haven't met a lot hence technically what he said stands as he said in his career however for one who went somewhere where the standard is higher and more direct and vivid in terms of description and requirements to qualify under that its harder but that goes to show you have met or been exposed to truth that differs from him but his reality is his reality you cant fault people for lack of information if it isn't hurting someone regardless if its not true but in his world it doesn't hurt to let him believe that he hasn't said anything wrong or bad and said that he is the most talented and brightest across all time or in my location he wasn't specific to that he said in his experience so its more polite and socially acceptable and just as a human being to just be kind enough to not force your truth in other peoples throats if they aren't doing harm or making you uncomfortable what he said is true and he specified quite well that it was his experience be humble and don't force the statistic and boast that there others smarter.

Both sides of the debate present really good arguments here. University can provide great networking opportunities and can really help young people find themselves. I wish I had taken more opportunities at university. That being said, better employment is ultimately why people go to university. I’m a graduate. First class degree. Prestigious university. I’m currently applying for jobs for £20k/year that couldn’t care less about my education and favour ‘skills’ and ‘experience’ over an undergraduate degree. With the huge associated debt, consider your options…

But when i started working in the finance industry I found out that a lot of these companies are ONLY hiring individuals who have degrees not to mention the number of internship opportunities in top paying firms that graduate scheme only for uni graduates. University was an invaluable experience for me. I studied English literature and at the time lots of people said that a degree was useless unless you were studying a STEM subject. I'm now over 30 and am still waiting for my degree to not be useful like they said. My degree is still continuously opening doors for me. Of course there's nothing wrong with taking other routes, but I raise an eyebrow when people completely dismiss university degrees or diminish their value.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba said that if your heart is not pure a degree is merely a piece of paper. I knew a rancid-hearted guy who, although very academic, had quite a lot of toxicity under the surface. And he was quite a chippy person. I would never belittle the work and effort which goes into obtaining a degree or diminish its value, but money can't buy you a pure heart and a degree can't either. As for intellectualism, intellectuality only takes us so far. Spirituality is more important. I know people who've never sat an exam in their lives who are more spiritual than university educated people.

University was the right choice for my husband as he knew the career path he wanted to go down, and it has paid off. However, i decided not to go to uni after I left A Levels as it wasn't for me, and i didn't know what i wanted to do. I loved acting and thought i would try and pursue this, but instead, i floated around between retail and hospitaility work before landing a position in a financial advice firm. I was never very good at maths so couldnt believe i got a job let alone enjoy the job. 8 and a half years later i have completed 3 R0 exams and aiming to beocme a financial adviser. This was never on my mind as a career path but had i gone to uni, i dont think i would have ever considered it. So for me exploring different jobs and taking time to myself was a benefit. I am now better paid than most uni graduates and without a student loan to pay off. Key takeaway: Uni is great for some who know what they want to achieve, and their career path requires it, but its not right for everyone

Depends on what you study and if your motivated enough. Sometimes it's not what you think when you're studying the subject. Some people are better at learning and passing tests and other people are better at practical roles. Some people just wing it all the way and manage to do well. There are a lot of subjects that don't lead anywhere the industries as they don't exist.

Most of the things the person who was at university said are only able to be done if you are wealthy, most people in 2024 are unable to take part in societies and actually enjoy the experience, due to the cost of living and student finance being unable to actually provide a living for them.

Get a degree and half of all graduate positions will possibly be available to you to pursue

Some jobs will keep the door locked if you don't have degree While all universities discriminate against very bright people with Dyscalculia who could do a degree with ease, simply because they can't get a GCSE in maths. Let be real, very few university courses have complex maths and people with Dyscalculia learn with ease; it just maths that an issue. This is one unjust thing that makes me absolutely furious. Science knows almost all universities course will not be an issue for Dyscalculia students while British universities are having none of it. It no different than women being barred from being an MP or from voting which was the case in this country.

University nowadays is not worth it unless your desired career path 100% requires you to get a BSc to begin working in it, and that's excluding if there's the opportunity for apprenticeship degree Apprenticeship degree is more worth it in when compared to a traditionally earned degree in every sense, it's free, you're in the workplace the whole time which makes you way more valuable to employers than some student who's just graduated with zero experience and a 2:1 and you're earning the entire time too. The face to face university education system is a mile wide and an inch deep, and another way for the government to tax the next generation by keeping them in £40,000+ debt by the time they're 21. GET AN APPRENTICESHIP DEGREE.

Quite an interesting discussion this. I left school in 2012, my teachers pushed me towards 6th form, I attended the open evening with my parents and the same night both of my parents said to me 6th form is not for you at all! Long story short I got an apprenticeship secured before I’d officially left school and the moment I told my teachers who were pushing me for 6th form became so disinterested in me not that I was bothered because I knew it was the right decision for me. Out of my 5 mates only 2 of us graduated from uni yet I was the only 1 to take an apprenticeship at 16, 1st account proof 6th form/uni is a waste of time
@user-df8gp6mc6v
@user-df8gp6mc6v 7 месяцев назад
i wouldn't say sixth form/college is a waste of time especially considering the younger age at which you attend with there being even more of chance of not knowing what to do and it being the law and all. Not to mention education at this stage is free and allows for a likelier chance of landing a degree apprenticeship which I'm aware were only introduced in 2015, after you left school.

I would find a free alternative somewhere. For example in Norway if you wanted to be a nurse, they pay for your University long as you then contribute after graduating. 9K a year tuition as debt for families that cannot afford it === being saddled with it for probably decades. Education should be free for all except overseas students.
