Thank you for this video! I'm doing my clinical for intermediate med surg and by the grace of God was blessed with a great nurse to work with. She actually recommended me to look into a new grad residency program because she noticed I'm so afraid to patient care. She is absolutely right, my anxiety gets the best of me especially because covid took away A LOT of time away from our skills lab, we lost practice to do any nursing skills, and clinical experience at the hospital was cut short :/ We were still fortunate enough to do clinical rotations during the covid but it still wasn't enough time to get the full experience.

Aww I hope you’re doing better! I think we all were nervous when we started but you’ll get there! Honestly I learned most of what I know about being a nurse on the job, don’t expect yourself to be fully prepared to be a functioning nurse right after you graduate. There’s still a lot to learn! NCLEX world vs. real world is very different!

This is something similar to my situation and I still can’t find a way to calm myself down. I was graduated in 2010 and unfortunately I started practicing as a nurse now. So this mean I’m an international and life threw me into different corners so long story short I’m starting to practice after 13 yrs of graduation. I am so scared and extremely anxious. I don’t know what to do. And clinical wise I think I’m good, is my anxiety who is ruining my clinical skills and the way I approach to my coworkers or patients…. Sometime I’m too straightforward 🥹🥹🥹🥹 any advice please 🙏🏻

Hi Nikkie! Thanks so much for the insight on your video. I have a question pertaining to the pay. Do you think it's wrong to ask if the hospital pay less during orientation before you get placed on a unit during an interview?
@nikkieizzuka4059
@nikkieizzuka4059 2 года назад
I don’t think it’s wrong to ask, this is part of your decision making for whether or not you’re going to accept the job. I would just be careful in the way you ask and not ask about pay right away. Definitely ask questions about the work environment first so it doesn’t seem like you’re basing your entire decision on pay.

Hi thanks for the video! What is the criteria that someone needs to meet in order to get their first specialty pick? GPA? Is there class ranking in the residency program and that’s the determining factor on who gets what? Thank you!
@nikkieizzuka4059
@nikkieizzuka4059 2 года назад
Like I’m sure you’ve heard in school, your grades or how many questions it took you to pass the NCLEX doesn’t affect your ability to get a job. Your interview is definitely a defining moment, sell yourself! Show them that you’d fit into their unit and what makes you a good choice.

I am struggling to get my dream job in L&D. I have had 3 interviews one for L&D, one for NICU, and one for Peds. I didn't get an offer for any of them and its hard to get back up after getting pushed down so many times. Sad that so many new grad nurses have to end up on a unit they do not want to work on. There are not any Nurse Residency Programs for L&D where I live either :( I just wish that I didn't feel so alone thoughout this process.

Hi Nikkie! Could you by any chance discuss if grades matter in looking for a job? as in will the employer ask for your transcripts, how much do grades really matter, etc? I just did my first written assignment in nursing school and I thought I's at least get a high credit, an I got barely a pass, a grand total of 58.9/100... oh to my terror. its so discouraging and since I know nursing employment can be competitive.. can you provide some advice or discuss about this topic, please? thank you.
@nikkieizzuka4059
@nikkieizzuka4059 2 года назад
Grades definitely DO NOT MATTER! As long as you pass, you are fine! I would focus more on learning during your clinicals and learning how to critically think about your patients. I would also try to make a good relationship with your clinical instructors! A good recommendation letter from a clinical instructor is more powerful than from your lecture teacher in my opinion!

I couldn't do it. I couldn't stand the fact that I had to be with a company for a certain amount of time. I was a CNA in the Float pool and just told everyone that I wanted to work in that unit. Nurses respond well hearing that you want to be in a unit. Got the job when I graduated. Either way hard work pays off.

That’s great that it worked out for you! I did an accelerated program, so I didn’t have time to work during school and didn’t have that opportunity. Also, my hospital only hires new nurses into their residency program so either way, this has to be my route. Honestly, I’m 1.5 years in and starting to feel more comfortable. People have always told me it takes 1-2 years to feel confident so I had always planned at staying at my first job for around that time. That’s why the contract wasn’t a big deal for me 🤷🏽‍♀️
