Learn how to project hard climbs with tactical mastery in this new series with Joel. This is part 3 in the redpointing series for sport climbers, where he discusses how to truly prioritize your climbing and work through different partner dynamics to show up in a meaningful way in your climbing relationships.
Climb Strong Coach Joel Unema is a master at climbing routes near his physical (and mental) limit. He has sent 5.14 sport and trad lines, many of them first ascents, and bouldered up to v14.

Prioritizing personal climbing is really deeply tied to self worth and can be tough for many of us. I really appreciate Joel's take on this - being selfish at times but showing up for partners when they need it too.

Totally agree. Theres a misconception amongst easier grade climbers that projecting your route or stick clipping your route is only for ‘the hard climbers’. This just isn’t true and whats good for 8a is equally good for 6a if thats your project level. Go for it and don’t worry. I love the idea of a project day followed by a support day. As we get older that support day/rest day really works! Good stuff as usual CS.

Climbing and belaying on separate days, rather than both at the same time, while on a trip is such a simple idea, but something that simply didn't occur to me at all. Game changer, especially with partners that climb at different levels.
