Great video. The game devs did a good job of simulating the effectiveness of the .270 Winchester. Super flat in a non mag cartridge, fast and deadly, like in real life.

I completely agree. I hope that they continue to keep that attention to detail as the game continues to grow!

So I have a different perspective on performance. Yes energy, accuracy, and trajectory are some important important factors. To me, the energy drop and trajectory are most important if you are doing long range shots. Short and mid range, the energy for all tier 5 is plenty. The whole point of zeroing is to remove the impact of bullet drop from the equation. The way this game models damage, accuracy is very important. So the 243, 270 and 308 are all in that group above the 30.06 for accuracy. The other piece of the damage model that plays a big role that you didn't mention is the bullet impact model. Many of the calibers are very similar, but the 308 and 30.06 do stand out. The 30.06 does penetrate further before expanding out. So for frontal shots, you can place the widest part of the cavity damage much deeper in the animal, where the vital organs are. The 308 has an interesting shape the makes the wider parts of the cavity damage go a little further than some of the others. The 243 and 270 expand fast and taper off fast, so it is very possible, especially on a frontal shot, to do alot of flesh and bone damage, and then you get only penetration damage where the vital organs are. This can lead to not enough for a kill or squeezing the bullet over the heart and between the lungs. So to me bullet performance is one of the biggest factors in rifle performance. I switch rifles around alot. I do not like take long shots, I like to either call in or sneak in to make sure what all is in a group. So range is never an issue. I do call for sorting out culling priorities alot. So for my hunts, the bullet performance is probably the biggest factor in performance over the others. And I more often than not prefer a frontal lung shot because for me they are much more reliable, bigger target that the heart and you have the long path in the lung to ensure a kill.
@toothlesschwawa
@toothlesschwawa Год назад
And yes the 270 has probably the quickest follow up potential, but in am not planning a follow-up or multiple animals, plus I tend to prefer the bolt action over pump for a hunting rifle, nothing scientific, just preference
@Stagtastic
@Stagtastic Год назад
I agree with you that if you are not planning on taking long shots, then it comes down to preference because any rifle you use will get the job done. But for anything outside of 250 Meters, that's where you need to at least start considering which rifle you should be using. Excellent words and insight as always!

Sure the 308 dosent hit the hardest but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It also means it’s not as overkill when using it on wolves compared to other tier 5s. Plus it is the most accurate gun in the game so that’s why I use it the most
@Stagtastic
@Stagtastic Год назад
I agree, that it is not a bad thing. It is a heavier bullet designed to hit hard and get the job done within a closer distance. However, even then, I might consider the 7mm over the .308.... I would have to check on whether or not it is the most accurate rifle in the game. I am not saying you are wrong, but all the Steyr rifles are inherently accurate.....I think I smell another scientific video coming up!

@@Stagtastic i can tell you with a hundred percent confidence it is. Me and many other people have tested it, you can too if you’d like just compare the hunter sense dots and you will see that the monobloc has the smallest hunter sense dot in the game meaning it’s the most accurate

@@Stagtastic well the 30-06 in the game is a century old so that can explain the accuracy issues. I love the 30-06, because I inherted my grandfather's 30-06 Musgrave (A Musgrave is a South African Rifle that took America's best all-round caliber, combined it with the action and barrel design of the Mauser K98, and added our own Afrikaner spin to the stock design and balance), and that rifle can hit an apple over a quarter mile consistently if you practice your marksmanship.

I appreciated thus perspective, when the game came out the 308 was the best and brightest we had. And I think a lot of you tubers use and love of this weapon influenced the community. Personally I shoot everything with the 300 win mag. I mostly hunt bighorn, elk, and mule deer. On alaska I love moose, elk, and black tail. I haven't hunted Europe much honestly. I just like having one gun that does it all, it gives me the ability to carry the 22 if i see a trophy bird or somthing. . I like the steyer 300 best. Great video as always my man

I use the Monobloc predominantly when my second weapon caters a very specific mission (e.g. shotguns, bows) as I feel the Monobloc works very well also for bigger game like Elks, Red Deer etc. Otherwise I usually pair the SM102 and the Pro Hunter II, alternatively Gams.

Three good Tier V rifles: Mono, 30.06 and the 7600. 30.30, has a massive reticle and it's the side of a mule deer torso at range 250+ (yards). 7600 is the best rifle in the game with one additionally great and bad feature. Pump action means much less disruption in view to cycle round so firing a second shot is MUCH easier. It also means that all the abilities you have in bolt action rifles are not worth a damn. If you want to hit targets beyond 200 yards, and take advantage of all your bolt action abilities, Monobloc is still king.

hey, good info all around. but i'd still put 308 over 243. the 243 is great but just too risky/small for the bigger tier 5 in my experience. but hey, just my opinion
@Stagtastic
@Stagtastic Год назад
But isn't that what the 7MM is for? 😉 I would choose the .243 over the .308 if those were the only rilfes I could choose from because of how flat it shoots. But I understand where you are coming from!

@kj12351 Год назад
I use the .308 because it looks awesome and it can take any tier 5 animal I want to hunt and it can take tier 6 animals as well. I don't really care about how flat it can shoot. We can agree the .270 is better ( I don't like the look of it, so i don't use it. ) but the .243? No way.
@Stagtastic
@Stagtastic Год назад
Fair enough! The .243 can do all the .308 does. But if you are looking as a mid range rifle between the Tier 5 and Tier 6 animals, then I can understand that!

Can you tell me pls. Why should i think about bullet drop? When with sence i can see red dot where the bullet will go. Or just zerowing it so again i am on 300m away from the animal and my scope is on the spot with 300m zeroing.
@Stagtastic
@Stagtastic Год назад
You will mainly need to keep this in mind when playing on the "Hunter" Difficulty/The hardest difficulty of the game where hunter sense is not available to you. On the "hunter" Difficulty, you will not have a red dot bullet impact indicator.
@PrinceAlhorian
@PrinceAlhorian 10 месяцев назад
308 is in-game and real-life nothing other but a neutered 30-06. Less recoil makes it more accurate in short to medium ranges, but it loses a lot of oomph past 150m. The 30-06 keeps most of its energy up to 200m. If the round is a bit heavy for your target, go 270 Winchester, that thing is a LASER in RL and the game. Just keep your engagements within 150m. If you need a bit more distance and accuracy, you're looking for the performance of the 7mm.

No drop at 200 meters, lol. The game doesn't have gravity for the .243 and .270? Plus the energy charts are wrong if they wanted realism. The .308 loses less energy with popular rounds than the .270. about the same 1000 energy loss at about 50 to 100 yards difference.
