$23 an hour to drive an 80,000 pound bomb? No fucking way. That doesn’t pay shit for the risk involved. No trucking job should be under $30 an hour to be honest.
I agree with this statement. I drove tractor and trailer for 3 months and then got a job with Swissport aviation as a fuel driver. The pay was $21 a hour. I only did it for the experience so I could move onto eagle transport or Florida rock and tank lines which annual salaries range from $70K-$90K. Sometimes it feels like I’m not paid the right amount.
It's far more dangerous empty than loaded. Empty it's vapor. Diesel is a combustible. Gas is more dangerous. Working for pilot, most of your loads are diesel.
I see these comments on his pay. Truck drivers don't have to stand working long on their feet for that, its easy money and don't have feel like you're on a plantation with overseers. I worked in a factory for and you couldn't pay me to go back. I like trucking. I don't have to depend on other employees to get the job done.
Stay in it long enough and your back and hips will pay the price . I done all kinds of work in my life and I guarantee standing on a concrete floor compared to being on a roof and roofing and 100+ degree weather for 10 hours a day you’ll be glad to stand on a concrete floor lay on it just go cool off , I’m been driving for almost 17 yrs now and that back will tell you it’s been more like 20+ it feels like . Yes trucking some what easier but all your doing is taking one part of heath and killing the other . None of it is good if you don’t do the right things to take care of yourself on the road . Your heath will go down fast . thank goodness I’m still in pretty good shape / heath . But the back is felling all them miles over the years .
@@12thstatetrucker89 Naw man, I exercise and eat properly. I was trained by men that have 25yrs of driving with UPS. They don't have back problems. If you don't exercise daily, that can happen.
I love how some state that drivers earn a lot of money. When your earning 80,000 to 100,000 + a year that great. But they don’t realize, you worked 70 plus hours in one week. That’s almost two full time jobs. Easy ? NO. One doesn’t drive because it’s easy , we drive because we love to drive and the freedom of the road. With all the sacrifices that come with it. GOD Bless all drivers and get them home safe
Id rather work 70 hrs a week for 1 company then two full time jobs because you make alot more money working 1 job with alot of ot cz of the ot pay after 40hrs. While working 2 full time jobs, its straight pay.
How is that based on cost of living for California? People that make that In the midwest and the Southern states can live more than comfortable on that income if it is net pay.
In 2022 I make $22 an hour as a yard spotter. 2-2-3 schedule and great benefits. That being said a fuel hauler can make an extra 20-30 GRAND a year for roughly the same amount of hours. Get your CDL, save your money, and live your dream (whatever that is). Great video man.
I was just thinking this. I make 21.25 As a yard spotter and get 62+ hours a week. Most of the time im playing on my phone, overtime after 40. And I don't deal with the idiots on the roads.
It's actually better now bro. I'm at 26.50 an hour down here in little ole Louisiana. It's a great company when you look at being a company driver and being home everyday. Gross money is normally between 1400 to 1700 a week. Net is somewhere around 1200 to 1400 a week. That's with 401k insurance and all
Let’s be honest here drivers, that is absolute horrible pay for hauling tanker/hazmat. Your living in lala land if you think that’s anywhere near decent money
For people who have never worked 50/60/70+ hrs week after week I bet that You think that's good pay. When you See that the irs steals your first 25 hours you'll want to quit.
I used to drive a fuel tanker and moved to a construction company driving a rig. Moved up to a Forman’s position and I tell new guys that are put on my crew that we work an average of 55 hours in this crew. Any problems go ask to be moved because I’m not giving 20 hours away to Uncle Sam so expect around 55 hours. They usually thank me seeing their checks and they get to be home more with their kids in the evening while other crews are out all day losing money and time with family.
I really like what you are doing for the general public! It’s great to get an insight on all different aspects of trucking, and all the different pay scales of trucking jobs/specialize.
Man they key here is quality of life!.. Go local and learn to haul fuel!!. I spent a year regional yanking tanks for the big orange and now I’m in training for a local gig and man it’s been night and day. I used to be home just on the weekends but spent most of my time getting ready to go back out. Locally I’m home everyday. If needed I have off days. Also I’m making more money in training than I did being out all week. Plus I get to enjoy the city. Paid holidays so triple time for 8 hours on holidays and just overall a better experience. No more banging out miles . It’s getting fuel from the rack to the customer safely.. they just want you to knock out what you can when it’s busy and when it’s slow they find ways to get you hours
I wont risk my self to make that kind of money to drive a tucker. while I can make the same money on dry van or refer, even dum truck. I THINK tanker driver should get pay at least $30 in hour.
Trucking jobs are usually not 40 hours per week, so the overtime is not optional. I work an average of 65 hours in 5 days for the same pay.....long days....run my ass off on miles/stop pay plus hourly for detention/waiting for loads etc... My only complaint is, I'll never net more than $1000/$1200 at this particular job because of the way it's all set up. The only advancement for me would be getting my own authority at this point. If one only needs to make $1k per week the rest of their life, that's fine too I guess?
Same struggle here bro. I kind of fell victim to the school reimbursement checks in the beginning. I was getting 1300-1600 a week for the first few weeks. Once the reimbursement was done, it started fluctuating from 1000-1200 a week. I wasn’t ready for that 😅.
Thank you for the review. And keeping it real. Gross is a pointless number. Take home is what matters. My .02 for any person looking at a workplace. Make sure you know your pay rates ahead of time. You don't want to job hop to often. But, you don't want to waste years on a dead end job either. If you have the option, research a little.
I work for Pilot On Thomas Pilot Logistics, mining sector. Pilot always been good to me in 4 years working for them. Big $$$ here always looking for good drivers in NV 100k+ a year
It's crazy that you can have a hazmat endorsement and tanker endorsement while a Ups Package driver with no cdl makes 32 an hour and 37 at top pay. I made 90k a year last year At Ups but i was forced to work every Saturday all year long. I'm currently at steves transport to get my experience then i wanna come home and land a local fuel tanker job.
I left ups cause the work was slave work and shitty start time and getting home late. Yea money is good but you basically giving up ur life to work for ups
Been in fuel hauling industry for 25 years now and this industry is getting cut down to bottom feeder freight! I discourage anyone from getting a hazmat
Driving a truck is a cool way to make a living as long as you don't live in a heavily congested area like I do the Pacific Northwest used to be wide open now it's plugged up because of Californians and other people moving here they've wrecked it now you sit parked in traffic more than you're rolling it sucks.
Pilot flying J is great. I worked there as a second job. Respectful company, and they will get you into a CDL, if you start in working in their stores! I worked with them people believe it! They give great opportunity; they give you the respect you deserve! They do understand their workers is what delivers in their prosperity! They are no losing team!!!
Subbed! Im new to trucking, I have 4 months Class A experience. Its been a little hard to find decent paying companies with such little experience in Texas.
Most truckers lie about wages. I’ll be straight up. After 6 years and working numerous terrible shifts i finally got a Sunday Monday 5am-5pm making 130k a year. But don’t expect to come in making this kind of money or having my schedule. The pay will be good though.
I dont think its worth it for 22ish an hour for 60 hours a week for a hazmat tanker. Imo. Never did it but ive made about the same on a flatbed with a load that wont explode or shift so hard when turning and braking.
I currently drive for FedEx Express making $23 per hour, but I'm using to get enough tractor trailer experience so I can switch to tanker driving. I got the HazMat, Doubles/Triples, and Tanker endorsement.
I started with them 3 months ago and I am happy as a clam 1200$ every week In TN That is almost double the average salary in my area and job is easy and simple however they seem to be getting more knit picky as time goes on we will see how much they actually crack down whether it’s worth working for them or not, so far it is still manageable.
@@saywhat3104 yeah they start at 24$ here , how often are the raises ? And is it hard to switch to day shift ? Night shift is all that available at the moment for me
@@KDSTrucking Extremely difficult to switch shifts goes by seniority by store so whoever has been there longest basically has first choice at shift for the store So until someone leaves or is willing to trade you shifts your pretty much stuck at whatever shift you hire on at so make sure it is a sustainable shift schedule for you and your family and see if there is any wiggle room to negotiate the shift you will work if you need to tweak it before you agree to come onboard From what I been told they usually have a raise every year anywhere from .50 + This year was a 2$ raise in my area
I was looking into tankers but if you don't have the experience it's hard to get in and on top of that it's just a lot of BS to go with it. The amount of money that comes with the bull ass with these tanker jobs is not worth it
I’ve been trucking now for 27 years. own my own truck now. It’s a good life a little frustrating at times but any job is. Make good money with no education except high school. I guess what I’m trying to say is go for it if you don’t like it you can always go back to working in a factory.
Lol. Low pay not for the fact he is operating a semi. But low for the fact he is driving a "boom boom see you in hell vehicle." I would need to require a little more if a rear end could basically mean that I will be seeing trump down there. 🤣
That’s Peanuts 🥜 I make $26 a hour driving class b I do on site fleet fueling the most I made so far was $1380 take home for 65 hours Sunoco pays good for class a that’s the route I’m going to take nothing under $28 for class a with hazmat and tanker
Some truckers don't make enough. I make $2700 a week flat rate anything over 3k miles is an extra $1 a mile. I stay out 28 days and home 1-2 weeks which ever I choose. I've had my cdl for less then two years and this is my first OTR job. $2700 a week = $10800 a month = $140k a year. When I was local with pepsi I made $24.75 a hour and got 65-70 hours a week m-f I would bring home $1600-$1800 a week so you can definitely make more. I have pay stubs I can share if needed
Congrats. 2 ads prior to your video. Very cool. Yes, frugal PILOT bought out the about to be bankrupt family owned Flying J. The son or grandson, of the founder, overspent on new locations and then couldn't handle the debt in 2008 ish. Pilot is based in Knoxville, TN.
the only flying j I had issues was the one inside the city of Edmonton, Alberta. Dirty bathrooms there! Everywhere else was super clean even where 100+ trucks in the parking lot.
Bro I just passed my test with two endorsements. Tanker and air brakes can’t get hazmat due to some legalities. I go for my mec on the 8th. Plan to start school after. Are there any jobs that I can get with tanker that doesn’t include hazmat, that still pays good?
I worked for pilot and these are basically all lies! You call off and it’s the end of the world! Don’t believe this bullshit! Why you think they can’t keep hell?
Steadno 2006 exactly why I won’t drive tankers...seen it happen and I’d rather take my chances with reefer, van or flatbed...I like to watch fireworks not become part of it
Wow thats so low pay. Thats a trainees base pay at the company I work for. They pays 28 an hr for after you actually become a driver to deliver groceries from the warehouse to their stores. And last year it was 26. Drivers are home every day as well. Then again this is Tennessee cost of living is low. But still even my company doesn't change the rate of pay unless it is higher.
How about heavy haul? My dad makes damn good money. Stays out 3-4 weeks. Comes home for 2 months. If you’re not a lazy bump the dock truck driver, get off your ass and do some hard labor heavy hauling.
I used to work at cox petroleum easu job take home $1600 per week more than Long Beach police lol $1200 per week now i work for Mohsen and i take home $1800-$2000 take home per week here in Southern California
@@2danandrews very easy bro most only require 1 year of non hazmat runs as long as u have hazmat and tankers (in california your state may be different) youll be home everyday and typically work 10-12 hr shifts rotating schedule usually start night shifts
People think this is good pay, let's not neglect the idea that he's having to work 60hrs or more just to break 1000$/wkly even with all his benefits and what not. Seeing jobs like this for drivers is what makes me hate my career as a driver. It's unfortunate that most our brothers/sisters of the road out there have to be on the clock for more than 40hrs per week just to have a decent living.
That’s Warren Buffett’s, they own Mclane who I drive for also. It’s amazing how money makes so much money. They pay kinda good but your going to earn it for sure
@@joshcrouch9298 back on 2014 they bought the Van Tuyl group (an automobile group) they told us "o it's going to be great change " sure it was the first thing they change was our pay plan....👎
Frank Man, I Wouldn’t doubt it. You know that’s how it all works. Tell you one thing then slap 👋🏼 We’re now doing this instead. And they wonder why people go postal. (A bit extreme, but the truth)
I’m surprised an NY fuel driver only starts at $20.53 do to the cost of living. I pull fuel in Baltimore they start around $25hr for tanker and around $20-23 for meter truck drivers (B License). It’s still decent money tho. Keep Pushin
@@Ihavetocorrectyou what up. Really not sure about your question. However my straight answer as far as getting a tanker job in Baltimore is just to search through indeed or pull up on a driver when there working and ask questions. There are some good paying tanker jobs here. Chemical pays better than fuel. So like Usalco and Praxair are two examples both of those spots pay 26per hour or better. As far as fuel you gotta look for the big companies with their own gas stations and services other gas stations. Pilot, CarrollFuel, Sunoco and Sheets pay good. Hope that helped G.
Rick Sosa I had the option to work Xmas or take off. Bc it was slow. So I took it off but still got paid regular pay for 10hrs that day. I so go In Early on Friday n Saturday so I can have home time at night o. The weekends. The. I get Sunday Monday off.
Fairly new to trucking, but very interested in tanker and hazmat, a buddy of mine was telling me about Groendyke and how that's a pretty good company. Anybody out there that can get more info on them if possible? Please and thank you 🚛
😮😮😮 wow that is not like Chicago Illinois you get paid 31.00 dollars but this is the catch you will have lots of problems like bad equipment the leads do not like to spend money on the trucks because they wanna collect their bonus money. You run the risk of losing your license with Dot. And it’s so sad that it’s such a big company and upper management wants to collect the bonus check as well as the leads. Good luck lots of problems internally.
