We've had both, a 16' Casita and "up-graded" to a 17' (Spirit Deluxe). We lived in the 17' for months and months and months when we took a long, slow 48 state tour ... with never a problem of any significance. Casitas are good value.

Great video. That's so true about about all that type RV gas Heaters. An Alde system would give you in floor heating, and unlimited hot water, and still run off of gas with no sound. I also agree with those out of date cabinet doors. I have them in my home and love them, but those just look cheap and out of place in that camper.

When I started shopping for RV's I think of what I was able to purchase in the 1990's. I owned a toyhauler and it has EVERYTHING. It was particularly long but it was tall and extremely heavy. I miss it! I don't miss towing it!!! Oliver, Escape, Big Foot. Beautiful trailers and ridiculous prices. I want to be able to travel and eat. I don't care for certain things in the Casita. I don't care. I want to travel and not worry about making payments or financing at 9% interest.

We actually flew to TX, because we couldn't seem to connect with anyone in our area that had one. We ordered an Independence model, but the down size is that we won't have it for a year and half. However, we do need to remove some landscaping, put up a fence and move an A/C unit, so that give us time to complete all that work. We live in S. Florida and know several RV owners of stick trailers who have had leaks, musty odors, rotted out floors etc. because of our humid climate. I don't think we'll have any of those issues with a fiberglass trailer. The small inside space doesn't really bother us, because we're used to a popup and we've always done our cooking outdoors and spent most of our time outside. Thank you of sharing!

We owned one for many years, a great unit for quick get aways. Not for everyone. Really well designed and has all the benefits of fully loaded. It was a supplement to our Motorhome and or my roof top tenting Land rover. Hard to beat for efficient and absolutely terrific. I added the usual solar, extra batteries, catalytic heater. Custom rack at rear for extra supplies. 10 outa 10. Sold it for more than I paid for it. Really holds it value.

I like these type of full fiberglass trailers, especially with the current/future gas prices. My problem is I don't like towing. I don't feel comfortable doing it so I had to buy an RV & it's an Overlander which only gets 10mpg's. If I had a Pepy V6(14-16mpg's) & a smaller-sized full fiberglass trailer like a Casita or a Scamp, Bigfoot or Oliver but those 2 latter ones are extremely expensive & the smallest Bigfoot makes is a 17ft.

The Lance 1475 has a queen East/West bed unfortunately, but beautiful thermal pane windows, up and down shades, dry bath, bigger fridge, oven, more counter space, storage, way more updated and modern than Casita but it's 2600 lbs and more expensive and the East/West bed fail..lol I saw a 2018 for 23k which seemed fair. I guess it depends what we can find used. The Geo/E is about 2900 lbs so I want lighter so a reg Casita liberty with bigger walkway, North/South bed is probably the winner, easy tow, better mileage and less maintenance at 2200 lbs. I think it's fine, but the wife's extrasensory perception quickly sees a future where the carpet stores every troubling smell, mold, etc. for years to come. Love your videos! I am thinking about forgoing an AGM and using 1-2 lithium batteries instead. How has your boondocking been using the one lithium? How many days can you go without using a generator to recharge it? How long does it take to charge from, say, 20% full to 100% full? We will have a solar panel, but not much sun up here in the PNW.
@TravelsandTravails
@TravelsandTravails 2 года назад
Thanks! One works great for us, but we typically camp in sunny locations. It really depends on how much power you use. The furnace is the biggest draw of all the electrical loads we have. As far as the charging, it depends on how much sun you have. We've only had to use the generator to charge it one time. We were at Mammoth Lakes and it was 20 degrees outside so we were using the heater a lot and were parked under trees and there was minimal sun. If we camped like that all the time, we'd have two lithium batteries. Also, our vehicle charges the battery while we travel, so that helps too.
@OPSteel97
@OPSteel97 2 года назад
Thank you. I was wondering once the battery is at 20%, then you hook up the generator and run it, how many hours it takes to recharge to 100%? Who wired your lithium setup?
@TravelsandTravails
@TravelsandTravails 2 года назад

Good review. One thing that I'm noticing on all these different reviews is no one mentions about brakes. You know, do these trailers have brakes whether electric or other. Even on a small trailer, I would prefer brakes. Decades ago, we had an Electrolux trailer that had a special hydraulic braking system. There was no connection to the truck for brakes! It was a piston system, where, when you braked, the piston on the hitch would push in and cause the brakes to engage. You brake a little, it would brake a little. You hit the brakes and it would adjust for that pressure. Excellent system. I doubt any N. American trailer has that. It's too bad, because it was a great system.

@@TravelsandTravails But electric, right? Not the type I mentioned that are hydraulic and activated by the tongue compressing when vehicle brakes applied?? Those were amazing brakes, because we didn't have to add any equipment to the van to make brakes work. Just hit the brakes on the van, the trailer's weight pushing into the van's hitch, caused the hydraulics on the trailer to apply brakes. Very cool. I don't know if any manufacturer uses these.

I have had a Liberty for 5 years and the only 2 things that really bother me are the 15 gallon size of the black tank (20 plus would be great) and the battery "cave" that limits the battery size and the number of batteries to 1. The carpet on the walls/ceiling bothered me for 10 minutes and then I forgot about it except for its excellent sound reduction function and insulation. The fact that you can take the trailer almost anywhere and park it almost anywhere is pure gold to me, I have never had to turn down a camping space. Casitas rule! (but they get very small inside after 3 plus days of rain, LOL). Oh yeah, I wish they would go back to the small sink in the corner, the new set up pushes into my left leg when sitting on the toity. The prior roominess would be much appreciated.
@stuartstuart866
@stuartstuart866 2 года назад
We have the same model. I think a tongue mounted battery box would have made it much easier to add an extra battery. I do like the under sink storage in the bathroom but the sink isn’t a necessity since we can use the kitchen sink. We got rid of aluminum blinds, our cat made a racket at night trying to see outside. I really like the different Casita forums, there are some incredibly knowledgeable people in them that are very helpful. If you are a tinkerer, the Casita is lots of fun to work on, because it is pretty basic design that you can customize with electrical gizmos, storage designs etc.

Was your lithium battery a simple swap or was there wiring involved?
@TravelsandTravails
@TravelsandTravails 2 года назад
We did just swap it, but it was difficult to get the battery out of the battery tray. There is some variance in the door height from trailer to trailer so yours might be easier. Keep in mind that the converter will not fully charge the battery. Our solor kit has a setting for lithium batteries so we were able to fully charge that way, but the shore power won't charge the battery completely.

So do you like casita or not? What i hear is you don't like it. Oliver and bigfoot is better. Oliver used to be a cadita owner and started making trailers to give what casita doesn't. Otherwise little big max for me. Thank you for sharing and be safe.

Sadly Escape took away that option. US buyers all have prices in USD and they won't let you buy in CAD and take the FX risk. I looked at them but went with Oliver. I wanted twin option and Escape still doesn't have date for new 23 model with twins to hit mark.

Fish if we catch them. Have had brisket with cut potatoes. Sometimes baked potatoes. Just depends on several things.😊

Casita or the Airstream Basecamp ? Thx
@TravelsandTravails
@TravelsandTravails 2 года назад
Tough call. I really like the Basecamp, but you can’t beat the Casita for price. Plus, Casita has more floor plans. We like our Independence for the twin bed, but that doesn’t matter if you’re single. IMO, fiberglass is better than aluminum just because it’s more forgiving if you have to repair it. Aluminum is very expensive to repair if you’re in an accident.

@TravelsandTravails
@TravelsandTravails 2 года назад
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVRW) for a Casita is about 3500 Lbs. Check the tow rating on your Oddesey to see if it is less than that. Some people recommend that the GVRW be 80 % of the tow rating. We used to tow with our Toyota Venza that had a tow rating of 3500 lbs. and did just fine.
